Greetings Etvolare, I've been reading NECRO and loved your TL. So, now say what's so different about Star Gate that helped it to climb #1 and #2 in Qidian's reader index. Oh, also I've read the first few chapters of SG in Webnovel but because of its all MTL I deeply felt saddened to not get read this story for which I'm grateful for WW to get their hands on this and you, Etvolare to translate this story. Will we get any romance or if yes, will it be harem or only single FMC (which I honestly hope for). I'll also like to add, since you are from Taiwan, what led you to translate CN into ENG, and how did you find WW? And did you find any difficulties while translating that you needed to bash your head to overcome any terms or sentences? Moving on, what's your favorite Western show or movie and Chinese tv or movie, do you read classic wuxia stories from renowned authors like Gu Long, Wang Dulu or Jin Yong? Any recommendation, be it movies or dramas or TV shows or books? Anyway, thanks for your time!

PS: Tell a joke (compulsory)

Hurhurhur. Halloo etvossu~ first, is your new novel harem or no harem? Is SG gonna have cutesy pets? 😄 Among SOTR, NECRO, and now SG which amongst them is your favorite so far? Compared to SOTR and NECRO, Star Gate has only 600+ chapters. Are you finally done translating long novels, or will you retake a long story if there’s a chance? 😆 Can i visit you in Taiwan in the future? 😆

Thanks for bringing us another novel! I wanted ask about the world building and the amount of cultivation/xianxia in this mordern setting novel. Thanks.

Thank you for your question and interest in Star Gate! It's a curious mix of ancient meets modern where we have guns and cars, but also no way to communicate between cities because of the distance. My take is that a huge war or something related happened to cut everyone off from a sophisticated ancient civilization.

There is definitely a lot of cultivation as it's a clash between two cultivation systems! In the red corner, we have our old faithful martial dao. In the blue corner, we have the whippersnapper newcomer of supernaturals. They're more like magic users and they come off extremely overbearing against martial dao. They seem to be stronger, faster, and easier to progress -- but is that really the case?

A cupped fist salute to a refined soul!!

I think what makes SG different is the author (lol, what an answer). He's known for gargantuan updates while the novel is free, think 10k characters a chapter, and his plot lines are pretty well written. They're thoughtful, tight, and he doesn't exactly subscribe to the dao of word count. That's a winning combination in web novel land!

I'm extremely honored to have this chance to work on a plat author! I hope to do the series justice. :D

I haven't read the full series through yet but haven't seen mention of romance either. Granted, he does start off really preoccupied with revenge and finding out who's going to kill him, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that consume a majority of the early chapters.

Burnout from my previous career in finance led me to translation! I used to live in the States and was in a very fast-paced finance job. A few years later I felt it wasn't sustainable for me to go at that pace, and I happened upon the scene when WW was just getting started! I think Coiling Dragon might've just finished updating then. It was definitely hard at first since English is my first language and language use in fiction may not be as straightforward as other material. In the first year or two, it was as much learning Chinese as it was translating! I did my work with a dictionary by my side heh. For me, stuff like flowery language, extensive narrative, and dialogue are easy. I find puns to be a headache and sometimes fight scenes if they're written poorly.

My favorite western show series might be Star Trek: The Next Generation! (Any Trekkies out there!) But right now I have to give a shout out to Home Alone on account of the holidays. Favorite eastern show series might be Someday or One Day -- a modern series that deals with time travel and consequences that ripple through time (but not quite Butterfly Effect). The acting is absolutely superb in that series.

I have indeed read some of the classics! I've watched way more of the TV dramas though, because my Chinese was really rudimentary growing up. I might recommend starting from the TV series first, because the classics are written in a style that might be harder to digest/less preferable to modern readers.

PS. I suck at jokes ahaha!

Yayyy hello Yuuko! Here is the brains behind my covers, everyone!!

I don't believe there's a harem or even romance, but I haven't read it all the way through yet.

SG has uhh, one suffering little black dog thus far. Li Hao doesn't seem to think it's cute lolol.

SOTR will always hold a special place for me because it was my first series in this scene, but damn it was dao of word count. I am eternally surprised at how everyone doesn't might as much and loves it. I have to mention my cameo in NECRO, but I was really not a fan with how the author treated the last one hundred chapters. I'm a few hundred into SG at the moment and can see why everyone loves it so much! It's definitely very compelling and well-written in the first half.

SG is just as long actually, because its chapters go anywhere from 6k-11k characters! Still another 2k novel hahaha.

Come to Taiwan yaaas!

My favorite western show series might be Star Trek: The Next Generation! (Any Trekkies out there!)

🙋🏼‍♀️ Star Trek: TOS is still my favorite, followed by Deep Space 9. Do you also like the Stargate series? I loved Stargate SG-1. OK, now you know why the title attracted my attention.

I know a lot about old SF and Fantasy because I've read a lot of it. I love the way they would describe things. It's similar to the science in these Chinese stories, back then you could get to Mars from the desert just by yearning to be there (Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series - aka the Dray Prescott stories).

I really liked your translation of Necropolis Immortal a lot. So, I can't wait to read this story as well. Sadly, I've been incredibly busy and didn't manage to get to it before this Q&A. Sorry.

Thanks for taking up a new story! With you and Bel Shamharoth working as a team, this one should be awesome.

Hahaha there have been soooo many SG-1 memes already. Peeps be loving it, and I gotta say I made sure the title was Star Gate to have that tiniest bit of differential.

I love old SF&F too! Andre Norton, Mercedes Lackey, Ursula Le Guinn, Terry Brooks just to name a few off the top of my head... I'm so glad you like NECRO! Don't ever apologize for a busy schedule, it's never too late to start! :)
