  1. Ah I remember this, Qidian dropped it, so I stopped reading too.
  2. The stories mostly do not touch on each other, but are set "in the same universe", meaning that the characters from across novels do indeed have a chance of meeting one another or interacting in some way. However this interaction is something that usually only occurs at extremely high levels of cultivation (meaning near or even at the very end of the novels) as it is at this particular layer that the MCs are actually at a point when they are capable of leaving their native cultivation lands/sub-universes and going to others which is how their interactions can occur. There are some exceptions to this sort of crossover though, and AWWP (A World Worth Protecting) is one such example: *warning, some potential spoilers ahead for Beyond the Timescape as well as spoilers for AWWP: I must admit, no other author I know of has this sort of greater collective multiverse that connects the MCs of all his works.
  3. Dragonlance Books (Original Trilogy of Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Nights, Dragons of Spring Dawning, as well as the Chaos War in Dragons of Summer Flame and the Final Book of the Age of Mortals trilogy Dragons of a Vanished Moon). Also read all the books in the Dark Disciple Trilogy (Amber and Ashes, Amber and Iron, Amber and Blood). As well as a few other individual books in the series. DnD Prince of Lies (like how the book depicts the Gods of Faerun, especially the ascended ones) as well as the final book in the Time of Troubles Trilogy Waterdeep. A number of Magic the Gathering Books especially those centered around Urza Planeswalker and a few other misc books of that sort. Harry Potter full series. All the books in the Chronicles of Narnia series.
  4. Yes, it does. Love Saint Bai even gives advice to anyone who would receive it that having only 1 Dao Companion is for the best 🙂
  5. Apart from Cultivation Chat Group and A Will Eternal, never read the other 2. AWE or the win as the humor remains fresh and relevant throughout the story. Cultivation Chat Group basically lost the plot by trying too hard for humor so much so that the characters (and even the general public in the novel) descended to levels of mental retardation with their quirky and odd personalities and unhygenic levels of pettiness. Having a character court death and actually die because that character "loved courting death" is an example of how not to write interesting characters. It was this reason why I dropped the story. (there were other problems like the clearly projected Gary Stu Bai who was so much of a Gary Stu that the story sought to introduce another of him).
  6. A Will Eternal certainly had the best MC for me, Lord Bai is the best in many ways and in the end he found out what he really wanted. Nine Stars Hegemon Body Art can get rather repetitive, but also pretty funny and the MC is one of the ballsiest around. He's also pretty creative and clever though the story keeps trying to force him down the musclehead route which I detest. I never thought I'd see the creation of a booger mirror anywhere but it happened in this novel. The only thing I've seen comparable to that in another novel is the armpit pill in Sword Sovereign's Ascension, though that's a one off by a side character. Beyond the Timescape is Er Gen's current work and I've said enough about it elsewhere so I'l just say that this is shaping up to be one of Er Gen's best works yet in terms of overall story. The 98% rating it has on the site is very much deserved and the translation quality by Deathblade is guaranteed. MC is not truly outstanding in terms of character but his senior brother on the other hand.... Star Odyssey has been something of a surprise. I did not lie the MC and I still don't regarding his character, but I do understand now the necessity of some of his actions and it's basically the way his rotten universe is. The worldbuilding and plot of the story have been phenomenal, and my distaste for the MC on some aspects as well as on the horrible callousness of the setting at times aside, it's shaping out to be quite the thriller with more developments coming in as the world expands and the OP main antagonists of the story Aeternus (I call them Aizenus as they seemed to be way too overpowered and to basically be in control of every situation, they have not yet suffered a true defeat in the story to date). I once actually dropped the novel because of my problems with the MC but have since picked it back up and I must say I haven't regretted it.
  7. I considered reading AR, but I was afraid that it would turn out like GR where the MC is usually dealing with sect and social politics and never travels apart from a group or not as part of a school or organization. WDQK had some of these issues though it was still relatively minor, it was only in GR that this really became pronounced, MC almost NEVER traveled alone ( or at least with a group of peers that aren't a part of some larger organization). Whenever the guy went out he went out as part of a school or sect contingent and as a member or representative of that organization he was in, and this was like nearly 90% of the time. It was only a bit around the beginning and at the end that he did travel alone and even then he didn't do much traveling. Most of the time he was entangled with his sect and could't get away from them. Yuanzun had the same problems, he was either travelling with his OP waifu or else with his sect or as part of his sect. It's not really a cultivation novel unless the MC does some travelling and training in the wilds alone dammit! (grandpas in rings don't count as they are there for guidance and moral support for the most part, along with the occasional leg up). BTTH was the only one of Potato's works where I felt like the MC (Xiao Yan) was actually going on a cultivation journey. Although he did travel with other companions apart from Grandpa Yao Chen, they simply felt If AR's cultivation system is as interesting as it's made out to be and Potato did not go this route where the MC is mostly holding hands with bigger organizations wherever he goes, I might give AR a try.
  8. Wait what? Splitting the Heavens is translated on wuxiaworld? How come I didn't realize this earlier? Might check it out sometime (not anytime soon though). But yeah, shame about NETS getting dropped, it was pretty interesting and I had gotten quite far into it as well. Would definitely pick it up again if wuxiaworld picks it up.
  9. I'm actually reading World's Best Martial Artist on another site since I've heard that Tribulation of Myriad Races and another title on this site I forget which) are sequels of a sort to that with WBMA, TMR and then that one in order. Since there have been stated to be some references and such to the older books in the more recent ones I decided to read WBMA first before reading the other 2 on wuxiaworld. And O. M. G. Reading WBMA has become something of a trial: I'll stick it through and try to finish this, but seriously I hope that TMR and the following novel are much better than WBMA. Please let them have better MCs, I just cannot understand how people can find annoying characters deliberately and exaggeratedly written to be annoying as funny.
  10. Beyond the Timescape:, rated 98% last I checked. I would say it is deserving of the rating. It's Er Gen's latest novel which already says a lot on its own. The setting is a sort of dystopian post apocalyptic and while the MC isn't the most appealing to me as he's similar to quite a few of the other "cold callous cruel bloodthirsty ruthless" MCs out there, Er Gen puts his horror writing skills to their best in creating a hellscape of an oriental take on Lovecraftian elements merged with traditional Chinese occult themes. The worldbuilding is fantastic which is hardly surprising because it is Er Gen, and the cultivation is really interesting. It also has a number of elements tat aren't often seen in other wuxia/xianxia novels such as Also unlike other novels where the older generation is basically the same as the younger generation, just as easily riled up, quick to anger and equally brainless (I'm looking at you Nine Star Hegemon Body Art!), the older generation in this one are actually smart. In general they are much more knowledgeable and composed than their younger hotheaded juniors which should be the case if you think about it. The really smart ones are able to construct grand schemes that determine the fate of a sect or even a country and we actually get to see such schemes (the MC is even a part of such schemes at times, but is not the central figure, nice to have plotlines not always revolve around the MC instead of showcasing a much wider social and political background) and how they play out. Er Gen actually managed the mystery elements of the story really well, not just general mysteries of the setting but also the schemes and plots of these old monsters. Old ginger is definitely spicier in Beyond the Timescape (not to say that the younger people are all idiots, but their seniors leave them in the dust overall when it comes to smarts) I've read ahead of even the translation on wuxiaworld on another site and I have to say that translation wise, Deathblade delivers the same sort of quality that has come to be expected in all his other works. Apart from a few minor issues I had with some of the chosen terms of translation, the quality of his translation beats the other translation I know of by a country mile. This is also a story that keeps getting better and better. I've read a particular arc and had the impression that is was one of the best arcs I've read in a cultivation story in a long time...and then the next one comes along and one ups that easily. And that's been going for a bit now, so yeah. It keeps getting better which is good news (also the character development, who doesn't love some good character development). While Xu QIng is not the most interesting character I've seen, there are interesting characters in the story apart from him. One in particular has become a favorite of many and plays no small part in the popularity of the novel. The interactions that play off between this character and the MC are a pleasure to read about (and can be pretty funny too).
  11. He's got a lot of connections but he doesn't look like the type to care about others overall let alone lead a team or group beyond the notion of having them be useful to him.
  12. The second season of the AWE anime aired a while back and I did not watch it due to terrible TERRIBLE translation subs. Like completely unwatchable MTL level subs. That was a while back, almost a year back now. Don't know if there are any better translation subs out there, but when it first came out, the subs were absolutely terrible and I simply did not watch. I watched the first season though and it was rather good. Liked the opening theme, one of the lines of the lyrics actually captured the an overall aspect of the story:"is the secret to longevity/immortality loneliness?"
  13. I read mostly CN with a bit of KR. KR novels often go the hyperrealistic gore route and/or trauma route with overcompensation on these things to boot. Moreover there's this tendency to completely disregard of power systems and simply go the whole OMG OP MC HAXXXX!!!! route where the MC does everything and his opponents scale up (sometimes very suddenly) to literal gods that are for some freaking reason interfering in the world of puny mortals competing with other puny mortals. Solo Leveling is a very good example of this (where the MC basically leaves everyone else in the dust of irrelevancy due to his hax leveling and the story basically revolves around only him) and probably the most well known example (another which leans into the gore/trauma route is This Tutorial Is Too Hard). This sort of novel where the MC eventually, if not quickly, becomes godlike and is sometimes also a cold uncaring asshole (like in Kill the Hero) is a hard pass for me.
  14. Those who liked Divine Throne of Primordial Blood might want to look up Aspiring to the Immortal Path by the same author. Am currently reading this and it's pretty damn good with a clever MC with good comprehension, though the style is closer to he traditional xianxia sect life plus cultivation. It's not on wuxiaworld though.
