My Opinion: This novel is a KR Dark Fantasy in the style of Reincarnator and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, and IMO the only reason it isn't as popular is due to being published later on. Writing quality wise, it can definitely compete.

The author regularly adds some quotes as foreshadowing, but all of them are sourced from classic and modern literature.

Eg. What are people afraid of?

“Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.” – Fyodor Dostoevsky

Spoiler

The powersystem has some similarities with Jujutsu Kaisen while the MC's ability is somewhat derived from Persona.

This is a title I've never read before. Thank you for the recommendation. I will check it out.

Uh, just read your reply about Drug Eating Magician review. Did you try this novel yet?

This novel is way worse compared to DEM and DEFINITELY isn't targeted towards minors. No sex and MC takes drugs only a few times - but those times are memorable. This is Dark Fantasy through and through, fr. There is a ridiculous lack of comedy, so you'll have most jokes in the comment section.

Spoiler

MC starts as a highly intelligent killer, it is a trauma-give-powers setting like Persona & JJK so most notable characters have a graphic horror backstory and mental illnesses, there isn't cheap r*pe-trauma backstory for sad past heroines but actually nuanced pro-life vs. pro-choice plot setup and since it would be lame to start with Gods and Devils granting powers we start with more well-known modern icons like Richard Ramirez & Unabomber.

IDK why but whenever I see Ancient Strengthening Technique in Wuxiaworld catalogues, I forget standards for accepting novels have changed. (It is legit softcore porn).

Very well-written work, but it is too dark and complicated. The world-building is decent, and the delicate balance of power between factions is well portrayed, but it feels like the story is all about how hard the MC struggles in darkness. Reading this title, there are flashbacks to other titles, but personally, I think this a very interesting title. It seems worth licensing!!!

Yeah, as I said, this is classic Dark Fantasy dystopia. MC is a regressor with a past and backstory, the world is shit, survival of the fittest reigns and in the world where evil reigns, even the kindhearted MC has to dip his hands in sin to salvage something.

I think factional battle novels are hype right now (Tribulation of Myriad Races is very popular I think) so this one might get popular IMO.

Actually that's the whole reason I am recommending. The author takes care to explain MC's powers and drawbacks while using it well, so we are always on the edge of the seat. MC's main cheat is the Persona-style Fusion technique, so you have him actively taking mental illness debuffs with every powerup. There is always a sense of suspense, because there is always a chance of taking too many drawbacks. I think the writing about MC's mental illnesses is well written without much gamification or inaccurate info. When author feels he can't portray MC's mental state well, he skillfully uses timeskips.

Since this is regression MC knows what he has to do to win & since this is Dark Fantasy, author doesn't hesitate to make the journey difficult. There is some death of beloved characters and everyone has a tragic backstory, but the reason we are reading MC's journey is coz he has the biggest tragic backstory of them all (can't die due to being protagonist).

I think it does the 'suffering builds character' progression equal to Jujutsu Kaisen, and MC is very sympathetic from start to the end.

Pardon? Could you clarify here? There are no Constellations, no Gates and Hunters, no Academy and extremely low romantic moments. Also no references to outdated conflicts or controversial memes (COVID, US politics, Chinese politics). I specifically recommended this because it didn't remind me of a better novel I've already finished.

Sorry for the late response. It just reminded me of other works with an apocalyptic setting. I wasn't saying that the characters, world-building, or other elements in this novel are the same or smiliar to other novels. The story of a protagonist who wants to stay detached but can’t, someone who is emotionally warm but has to be cold-blooded, surviving in a ruined world, creates quite a dark atmosphere. While reading, I found myself screaming, 'How can MC survive in a world like this?'
