I read up to 20 chapters. The beginning feels a bit like a Japanese light novel... but I guess I'll need to read more to figure this out.

Yeah, it does give a Japanese light novel vibes. I have read around 40-50 chapters of the novel and I thought it was an okay story. But the power/traits shown are pretty cool in the novel. I liked the manhwa more as it had a pretty good art.
