  • Chapter 61: Pale Human.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang started making their way towards the mansion, their footsteps the only sound in this abandoned city. Neither Huang Ying or Xin Yang spoke much, the atmosphere in the city pressed down on them like a mountain, they did not dare let down their guard for even a single second, lest they be trapped or attacked while they were unaware.

They were walking in a straight line, the only indicator that they were heading in the right direction being the mansion in the distance. After walking for almost 15 minutes, both Huang Ying and Xin Yang noticed the smell of blood hanging in the air. They also noticed that the ground ahead of them, just before a corner, was covered in footprints.

These were the first signs of other people they had seen since entering this abandoned city. But the smell of blood clearly told them that whoever was ahead of them probably wasn't going to be a peaceful type of person.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang exchanged glances with another before simultaneously nodding their heads and slowly making their way forward. They made their way up to the corner, only carefully peering around it with their heads.

Contrary to what they expected, there was no other person around the corner. The walls and ground were covered in blood. There were body parts strewn around on the ground, their ends still slightly moist with blood.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang both scrunched up their eyebrows, quickly scanning the rest of the surroundings. When they didn't find any signs of other people, they made their way up the the body parts on the ground.

The boy parts were slightly moist, so it was clear that it had not been too long since these people had been killed. The ends of the body parts were also horribly torn, so it was clear that they weren't cut off, but simply torn off.

    “I know who they are.”

While Huang Ying was checking out the body parts, Xin Yang spoke up behind him. As he turned around, he saw Xin yang point to a corner that they hadn't seen from where they were standing earlier. Upon inspecting the corner, Huang Ying found the torsos and heads of Mo Yating and He Cheng, carelessly stuffed away into this corner.

Their faces were contorted into terrified expressions, so they had clearly seen something horrible before they died. Seeing their corpses, Huang Ying scrunched his eyebrows even tighter. It was one thing to tear someone limb from limb, but doing it to a cultivator at the 8th heaven was a completely different thing, it was much harder.

“To be able to tear them limb from limb, the murderer is clearly no normal person.”

Xin Yang fondled his chin as he spoke. He seemed to suddenly think of something as he went to the mass of footprints that they had seen earlier, crouching down next to them and inspecting them. After looking at them for a short while, he came back to Huang Ying's side.

“There are at least seven different pairs of footprints back there, so there must be more than one killer.”

Xin Yang had inspected the footprints closely. If someone were to tell him that it was a single person that had torn Mo Yating and He Cheng limb from limb, there was no way he would believe them. But if there were multiple people, it became much more likely.

“Have you noticed that they don't have any other wounds?”

Huang Ying pointed to the two torsos and heads on the ground as he spoke. Huang Ying had inspected them closely, but they didn't have any other wounds on their bodies, just the wounds produced when their body parts were torn off.

    “You don't mean?”

Xin Yang started when he understood what Huang Ying meant. He quickly cast his eyes to the body parts and gave them a thorough look over. And sure enough, not a single wound was to be found.

“Indeed. They weren't killed and torn apart, it was getting torn apart that killed them.”

Huang Ying nodded his head. Since there were no other wounds on their bodies, the only cause of death he could think of was that they had been torn apart while they were still alive.

Thinking about this way of dying, even Huang Ying felt a chill crawl up his spine. To watch as someone tore off your limbs one by one was unmistakably a horrible way of dying. It also explained why their faces were contorted into terrified expressions.

Xin Yang had an ugly expression as he heard Huang Ying affirm his thoughts. He was stronger than He Cheng and Mo Yating, but it wasn't by too much. If there was someone or something here that was able to kill them by tearing them apart, it could most likely also do it to him.

Huang Ying stood up and dusted off his hands, he wasn't too worried about whatever killed Mo Yating and He Cheng, his body was far stronger than theirs. Since something had killed Mo Yating and He Cheng, it also meant that this city was not as abandoned as they first thought.

As Huang Ying turned around to face Xin Yang, his expression quickly changed. He grabbed Xin Yang's shoulders and pulled him forward, almost throwing him to the ground.

Xin Yang was just about to yell at him when he noticed that the place where he had just stood was suddenly occupied by someone else.

The person that stood there was completely pale, his skin devoid of any color. One could see his dried up veins through his skin, covering his entire body with black lines. His eyes were unfocused and empty, lacking even the slightest trace of life. His clothes were completely ragged, only a few strips left to cover his body.

The thing that scared Huang Ying and Xin Yang the most was that they hadn't noticed the slightest thing. They hadn't even noticed this thing's existence until they saw it. It hadn't made any sound, nor had their perceptions noticed it.

The white person raised it's arms and tried to grab at Huang Ying. Seeing the thing attempt to grab him, Huang Ying felt a strong unease, quickly dodging backwards. Xin Yang also moved backwards, standing next to Huang Ying, his finger tracing his interspatial ring.

    “What?!”

Huang Ying almost jumped when he heard Xin Yang's scream. He quickly turned his head, but Xin Yang hadn't been attacked, he only looked at his interspatial ring with a look of shock.

    “What is the matter?”

Huang Ying didn't think that Xin Yang would just scream for nothing, so he hurriedly asked, all the while sweeping the area around them with his eyes, looking out for any other of those things.

    “I can't use any Qi!”

Xin Yang had an ugly expression as he spoke. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't extract any Qi from his Qi crystal. Not only did this mean that he couldn't attack properly, he couldn't even take out anything from his interspatial ring, as it required he inject a small amount of Qi.

    “What?!”

Huang Ying was shocked at his words and quickly tried circulating his Qi. Sure enough, all his Qi was locked in his Qi crystal, even his Devouring Qi was trapped. With his Qi being trapped, Huang Ying finally understood how both Mo Yating and He Cheng could be torn apart while they were alive. Without their Qi, they were no better than some normal strong person.

Huang Ying was also getting more and more interested in whoever made these ruins. Not only could they cut his connection with Li Jun, they could also trap his Devouring Qi. It had to be known that his Devouring Qi was Qi of the highest type. It was on the same level as Life and Death Qi. To be able to trap it meant that someone had to reach the same level as Baku was.

Huang Ying quickly put the thoughts out of his mind and focused on the monster ahead of them. The monster was slowly stumbling towards them. It looked just like a normal human, but it's eyes were devoid of any life and intelligence, so it was no better than a beast.

While Mo Yating and He Cheng could do anything to these things, Huang Ying was different. His body had been strengthened several times, even surpassing some weaker Demonic beasts at this point. He did not fear this thing, as long as he only faced one that is.
  • Chapter 62: Strange Body.

The first thing Huang Ying did was open his energy vision to inspect the pale person. Using his energy vision, he could clearly see why they had never noticed this person sneak up on them.

The pale person in front of them did not have any energy within it's body. Even normal mortals and animals had trace amounts of energy inside them that could be traced. This energy was what cultivators called a persons fire of life, the sign that they were alive.

Since the pale person in front of them did not have any of this energy, the only explanation Huang Ying could think of was that the person in front of them was either created through a weak illusion array, or that he was already dead.

Since Mo Yating and He Cheng had most likely been killed by a small swarm of these pale people, Huang Ying quickly discarded the first option. This could only mean that the person in front of them was already dead, and looking at the state of his veins and skin, he had probably been dead for quite a while.

Huang Ying turned his eyes away from the pale human and onto Xin Yang. Since their Qi had been locked down inside their Qi crystals, Xin Yang could be considered next to useless right now, he couldn't even pull any weapons out of his interspatial ring.

This meant that Huang Ying would have to be responsible for all the fighting they would be doing while they were in the abandoned city. Since that was the case, learning more about what he would have to face was Huang Ying's current main priority. Luckily, a willing test subject had already showed itself.

“Keep an eye on the surroundings.”

Huang Ying gave Xin Yang a simple order. Since they could not sense if there were any more pale people in the surroundings, they could only use their eyes to constantly scour the area around them.

Xin Yang nodded his head and kept a vigilant eye on the surroundings. He understood that he was useless, and even though he did not know just how strong Huang Ying was without his Qi, his only option right now was to trust Huang Ying.

Huang Ying strode towards the pale person that was slowly shambling towards him. From what he could see, the speed of this pale person was completely atrocious, but he still did not lower his guard. If this pale person's speed was really that bad, there was no way that He Cheng and Mo Yating would die to them after just entering this abandoned city.

A low moan was emitted from the pale person as it reached out with his arms to grab at Huang Ying. Huang Ying raised his arms and grabbed onto the wrists of the pale person, clamping down on them.

As he grabbed the pale person's wrists, he couldn't help but be slightly shocked. The pale person looked thin and emancipated, but when Huang Ying grabbed onto it's wrists, he could feel the crushing strength that it's body possessed.

Just holding onto this pale person's wrists and restraining it required Huang Ying to use almost 70% of his physical strength. Huang Ying's bodily strength was approaching the peak stages of the Xiantian Builder stages, so 70% of his physical strength could almost be considered tyrannical.

Huang Ying also noticed that while the skin seemed pale and weak, it was incredibly coarse to the touch and seemed to possess a tenacity resembling thick leather.

Huang Ying raised his right leg and placed it on the pale person's chest, he then clamped down with his fingers and twisted his arms, pulling them backwards with all his strength. After exerting all his strength, the arms of the pale person twisted slightly before ripping apart at the elbow.

Huang Ying kicked the chest of the pale person, sending it stumbling backwards and onto the ground and it's chest caving inwards. Huang Ying pulled back slightly and started inspecting the arms he had just pulled off of the pale person.

There was no blood dripping down from the ends of the arms. The flesh around the bones was a powdery white and had the texture of soft wood. Huang Ying also looked at the pale person that was slowly trying to stand up. It showed no signs of pain after having it's arms torn off or having it's chest caved inwards.

It's chest had caved in enough to puncture it's lungs, but this didn't even seem to phase it. Huang Ying looked at the caved in chest and couldn't help but feel a cold sweat on his back. When he kicked ii's chest, he had used his full power, but it had only caved in enough to puncture it's lungs. It also felt like he had kicked a boulder, so he didn't doubt the hardness of it's bones.

Huang Ying turned his eyes onto the arms he held in his hands. There were some small bone spikes sticking out at the torn off end. The small spikes seemed unnaturally sharp, almost gleaming in the light. Looking at the spikes, Huang Ying got an idea and walked towards the pale person again.

He kicked the legs of the pale person, sending it tumbling onto the ground once more, before grabbing onto it's head with his left arm. In his right hand he held one of the torn off arms, the bone spikes pointing towards the pale person. He stabbed forward with the torn off arm, the bone spikes easily cutting through the skin and flesh of the pale person.

The bone spikes were only around two inches long, not even long enough to stab into the skull of the pale person. Yet when the bone spikes dug into the flesh of the pale person, a strange scene played out.

The flesh that was cut by the bone spikes quickly turned black, swiftly turning into a thick black liquid that smelled of rotting flesh. The black liquid oozed out of the pale person's head, a low and drawn out moan escaping from the mouth of the pale person. As the black liquid dropped to the ground, the pale person also stopped moving, it's entire body quickly turning black.

The rancid smell almost made Huang Ying throw up, so he quickly moved backwards, returning to Xin Yang's side. He looked at the torn of arm in his hand, especially at the bone spikes at the end. The bone spikes were still as white as they were before he stabbed them into the pale person, seemingly untouched by the black liquid.

“Take this one, seems like we aren't completely unarmed at least.”

Huang Ying threw the other arm to Xin Yang as he spoke. He didn't know why the pale person seemed to quickly rot away after being stabbed by it's own bones, but this meant that they at least had a weapon they could use. Huang Ying initially thought that he would be fine with just using his body, but now it was clear that depending on just his fleshy body would be exceedingly hard.

Xin Yang grabbed the torn of arm, feeling the coarse texture of the skin and the wood like feeling of the flesh. He couldn't help but grimace. Was this really the corpse of a human? Why did it feel more like it was a puppet?

Huang Ying cast his eyes towards the place where the pale human was earlier. It had been completely reduced to black liquid that slowly seeped into the ground. He nodded his head in satisfaction, at least it seemed like they could get permanently rid of them like this.
  • Chapter 63: Resounding Roar.

Huang Ying nodded at Xin Yang and started walking once more. Even though they couldn't sense their enemies, they still had to get to that large mansion in the distance. That mansion was the only thing they could see that was different from the rest of the surroundings, so it was also the most likely place for the entrance to the next area.

Huang Ying walked in the front while Xin Yang followed slightly behind him. Their speed had slowed down slightly as they now needed to keep a constant watch on their surroundings, lest they get ambushed by a swarm of thos pale people.

They didn't have to walk for long before they had to stop once more. They stood at a spot that was located in the middle of three of those small buildings. As they entered the area between the three houses, the doors suddenly swung open, three more pale people lumbering out from within the buildings.

“Do you think that every house contains one of these pale people?”

As Xin Yang looked at the three pale people lumbering towards them, he couldn't help but think of a horrifying conclusion. Huang Ying gave it some thought as he heard his idea and he found that it was not completely illogical.

When they stumbled upon the corpses of Mo Yating and He Cheng, it was at a crossroads between a few of the buildings. That was also where they were attacked by the first pale person. Now they were once again attacked by pale people as they entered a point located between several buildings.

“We can think about it after this is done with. You can take that one over there, don't let it grab you.”

Huang Ying brought his thoughts back on track, focusing on the situation in front of him. The reason he made Xin Yang take care of only one of the pale people was because he was certain that Xin Yang's body wasn't stronger than his. Since his physical strength was slightly weaker, it would also be harder for him to pierce the pale peoples flesh.

Xin Yang nodded his head and moved to intercept the pale person that Huang Ying had pointed out. Huang Ying was more leisurely, slowly making his way towards the two pale people that were stumbling towards him.

He had killed the last pale person a bit too quickly, so he still had some questions about them, these two pale people would be perfect for a bit of experimentation. With their slow speeds, he also wasn't too worried about them doing anything to him.

He grabbed the torn of arm in his right hand and moved towards the pale person that was to his right. When the pale person tried to grab him, Huang Ying slightly twisted his body, allowing the arm to pass right by his chest. He grabbed the torn of arm and gently sliced it across the pale person's arm.

The place that was cut quickly turned black, the black liquid oozing out from the pale person's arm. Unlike the time Huang Ying stabbed it into the pale person's head, only the arm turned black, quickly turning into liquid and disappearing into the ground.

    “Interesting.”

Huang Ying couldn't help but smile a bit. Since only the arm turned to black liquid this time, it most likely meant that the heads were still counted as the pale people's control center. This also meant that they had a fatal weakness that was easily exploited due to their slow speed.

Still, Huang Ying wanted to experiment a bit more. He cast his eyes towards Xin Yang's side. Xin Yang wasn't in any trouble, since he was used to using Wind Qi, he excelled in speed and flexibility, allowing him to easily dodge the pale person's arms. He seemed to have trouble slicing deep enough to make any major wounds, but he was well on his way to dispatching the pale person.

Huang Ying faintly nodded his head and returned his attention to the pale person in front of him. He stabbed the arm in his hands forward, the bone spikes digging into it's chest where a normal person's heart would be located.

As Huang Ying pulled out the bone spike, instead of the chest of the pale person turning black, the black color seemed to course throughout it's entire body. The black color followed the veins of the pale person, quickly spreading around it's entire body, turning the entire pale person into a rancid black liquid.

    “Hoh?”

Huang Ying was rather surprised that this worked. He had already concluded that these pale people were dead, so he didn't have any extravagant hope that their hearts would be weak points. But from the scene in front of him, it seemed that stabbing the hearts with their bones gave the same result as spreading poison into someones heart, a quick spread around the entire body.

Huang Ying turned his attention to the second pale person that was approaching him. He lowered his right arm and reached out with his left instead, grabbing onto the pale person's scalp. As he grabbed onto the pale person's scalp, a black flame lit up in his palm.

The black flame touched the pale person's scalp and the pale person seemed to lose all it's defenses, a hole quickly forming at the top of it's head. The black flame entered it's body and started wreaking havoc, melting everything but the skin of the pale person.

Huang Ying pulled back his hand and gently sliced the remaining skin, turning it into black liquid and covering all traces of the black fire. The black fire was the power he gained after the Vermilion Bird, Little Flame, fused with his various bloodlines. He couldn't use his Qi to summon the black flame, but if he used his bond with Little Flame to make it summon a bit of black flame, he had no problem controlling it.

The result of his experiments brought a faint smile to Huang Ying's lips. With the black flame being this effective, he now had another card in his hands. He turned around and looked at Xin Yang's situation. Xin Yang was still fighting with the pale person, but the pale person had already lost most of it's body parts, only leaving it's legs, so it wouldn't take long before Xin Yang would finish.

After spending a few more minutes working on stabbing it's head, Xin Yang finally managed to kill the pale person. Turning his head and looking at the nonchalant Huang Ying, he couldn't help but suck in a cold breath.

He didn't think anything about it earlier. But after having some firsthand experience with the bodily strength and defenses of these pale people, he couldn't help but remember how Huang Ying had not just caved in it's chest with a kick, but also torn of it's arms. How much strength was hidden in that seemingly delicate body?

“Done? Then we can move on.”

Huang Ying nodded at Xin Yang and cast his gaze towards the large mansion in the distance. They had only walked for around half an hour, but had already been attacked twice, Huang Ying couldn't help but worry about what they would face as they kept traveling.

Just as Xin Yang was about to respond to Huang Ying, a loud roar sounded out from the abandoned city. The roar seemed to come from every inch of the city at the same time, reverberating within Huang Ying and Xin Yang's ears. The roar continued for almost half a minute before it stopped.

What followed after the roar was the sound of doors being flung open. Huang Ying felt an unprecedented sense of dread and didn't bother thinking too much. The sound of doors being flung open could only mean one thing.

    “RUN!”

Huang Ying twisted his body and started sprinting towards the mansion in the distance at full speed, Xin Yang hot on his tail. As they ran, they could see doors being flung open all around them, a horde of pale people swarming towards them. What caused their hearts to almost freeze was that these pale people weren't slow like they used to be, but were sprinting at them at full speed.
  • Chapter 64: Turn the world to ash.

The sound of doors being flung open and rushed footsteps echoed all across the abandoned city. Huang Ying and Xin Yang were running with all their might, heading towards the large mansion in the distance.

If they used the speed they had used earlier, where they were being cautious and checking every corner, it would have taken them a bit over a day of walking to reach the mansion. But now that they were running with all their might, Huang Ying calculated that it would only take them around three hours to reach the mansion.

While they were running, Huang Ying constantly gazed at the surroundings. Hordes of pale people were rushing at them from nearly all sides. Sprinting with their mouths wide open, moaning a dreadful symphony.

“Where do you think the leader is?”

While they were running, Xin Yang examined the surroundings for a little while before asking Huang Ying. The pale people were much faster than they were earlier, but Huang Ying and Xin Yang were still faster than them, so talking while running was no problem.

“I'm not sure. The leader might look just like the normal ones, hiding within one of the hordes.”

Huang Ying shook his head and sighed. Since all the pale people had suddenly sprung into action after hearing that one roar, it was only logical that the roar was produced by something akin to a leader. The problem was that they had no idea what the leader looked like, or if they even had a leader, it might just all be coincidental.

“We should get to higher grounds. If we just keep running like this, we are more likely to be surrounded than we are to find a way out.”

After Xin Yang spoke, he pointed to one of the buildings not far ahead of them and ran in front of Huang Ying. He stopped in front of the building and slightly bent his knees, cupping his hands and preparing to springboard Huang Ying.

Huang Ying didn't hesitate, placing his foot onto Xin Yang's hands and allowing him to throw him upwards. The houses were slightly under three meters in height, so it didn't take too much force to throw Huang Ying onto the roof.

After landing on the roof, Huang Ying laid down and reached out with his hand. Xin Yang moved back slightly, giving himself some room to accelerate, before running at the building and jumping, grabbing Huang Ying's hand and getting pulled up onto the roof.

Standing on the roof of one of the buildings, while they were only slightly lower than three meters in height, it still allowed them to get a better grasp of the surroundings. Seeing the area around them, they couldn't help but suck in a cold breath.

All the buildings but the mansion were completely uniform in size, so standing on the roof of one allowed them to see above and between all the other houses. The city was much larger than Huang Ying first assumed, it would not be wrong to call it humongous. The city continued onward in every direction, disappearing into the horizon.

The space between all the buildings around them was completely packed, pale people covering almost every inch of free space. The pale people around the building that they were standing on had slowed down, only circling the building that Huang Ying and Xin Yang were standing on. But they could also see more pale people in the distance, sprinting to catch up with the main horde.

“Fucking packed isn't it? Seems like they either want us to head to the mansion, or are afraid of something within the mansion.”

Xin Yang couldn't help but curse as he saw the massive horde nearly surrounding the building they were on. While talking, he looked toward the mansion. The road around and towards the mansion was the only place that wasn't swarmed by pale people, only having a few pale people stumbling around.

“It really does seem like that is the place we are meant to go. It's nice and simple isn't it? No convoluted puzzles to solve before we get to move onward, just a straight line.”

Huang Ying copied Xin Yang and looked towards the mansion. He much preferred this type of thing over the illusion array that they were stuck in earlier. His Qi was locked away, but it was still easier since he at least knew what he needed to do here.

“Now then, how to get from here to there without being torn apart...”

Xin Yang cast a few glances from the road to the mansion to the horde around them. They were docile now, but there was no telling how they would react once Huang Ying and Xin Yang came down from the roof. If they started swarming them, the odds of them dying would increase dramatically.

“Follow behind me, we are going at full speed.”

Huang Ying tapped Xin Yang on the shoulder and stood at the edge of the roof, facing the mansion in the distance. He had also been thinking about how to get to the mansion when Little Flame, who was resting within his blood, chimed in with an idea. Huang Ying didn't have any better idea, and even though he didn't want Xin Yang to know all his secrets, there was no problem showing him a few of them, he seemed trustworthy enough.

“Come now Little Flame. Turn the world to ash.”

Huang Ying spoke in a low voice and placed his palm on his chest. A small flame flew out from his chest, quickly turning into a pitch black bird no taller than two palms. Seeing the bird, Xin Yang couldn't help but be surprised.

The little bird's feathers were pitch black, but the tip of it's wings shone with a white light, a scarlet crown of feathers adorning it's head. He considered himself to be well-read, but he had never seen a Demonic beast like this.

The pitch black bird, Little Flame, spread it's wings and gave a short screech, black flames spreading from within it's body. It's body quickly submerged in the black flames, seemingly melting and merging with the flames, turning into a ball of fire the size of a head.

Huang Ying pushed out his hand, gently sending the ball of fire flying forward, towards the ground below them. When the ball of fire touched the ground, it suddenly exploded, sending a line of fire shooting forward towards the mansion.

The line of fire shot forward unabated. Any building that was in it's way was reduced to ash, every pale person that touched the flame was turned to ash. After the fire reached the space in front of the mansion, it stopped moving forward, leaving behind a road of fire, connecting the building Huang Ying was on and the mansion.

This was the idea Little Flame had come up with, it was also an ability Little Flame had regained after undergoing it's nirvana. As Little Flame grew, it would slowly regain the memories of it's former lives, including the techniques and abilities it once used.

This ability fused the user of the technique with the fire, sending it forward in a straight line, turning everything in it's path to ash and leaving behind a trail of fire that was said to burn in perpetuity.

Xin Yang didn't even have time to be shocked before Huang Ying grabbed him by the shoulder and dragged him down from the roof. He started running on the road of fire, heading towards the mansion at full speed.

While it was said that the trail of fire would burn in perpetuity, that was only for fully grown Vermilion Birds. Little Flame was still young, so this trail of fire would only be able to last a few hours at best.

But a few hours was also exactly what Huang Ying and Xin Yang needed. After running for almost four hours, the finally caught up with Little Flame. Little Flame's feathers had lost most of their luster, it's entire body just barely hanging in the air, clearly exhausted.

“You did good Little Flame, now get some rest.”

Huang Ying gave a smile and reached out and stroked Little Flame's head. Using it's abilities drained a large amount of it's energy, so it would need to rest and recuperate within Huang Ying for the foreseeable future. But it still had the desired effect, it got them to the mansion.

Standing in front of the mansion, they truly realized just how large it really was. Huang Ying couldn't tell just how tall it was, but it couldn't be smaller than almost five kilometers. And that was just it's height. It still continued onwards to the sides, filling up their entire vision.

    “It really is extravagant huh?”

Xin Yang couldn't hep but mutter as he looked at the massive mansion. The mansion was colored a mixture of red and gold, he could also see several valuable metals and gems used as decorations. How much would it cost to create a mansion like this?

“Let's go inside. Let's hope we are lucky and won't have to do much more after entering it.”

Huang Ying pat Xin Yang on the shoulder and strode forward. He really hoped that the mansion was the exit to this part of the ruins. He did not want to have to run around checking out all the other buildings, dodging the massive horde of pale people wherever they went.
  • Chapter 65: The King.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang entered the mansion through a massive golden gate. Huang Ying was slightly worried about how to open the massive gate, but once he moved closer to it, it opened automatically.

It was impossible to see past the gate, the inside was covered in darkness that seemed to swallow everything. Even when Huang Ying used his Energy vision, he couldn't see what laid past the darkness.

“Won't even show us what is inside, now that's just mean.”

Xin Yang couldn't help but curse and shrug his shoulders when he saw how dark the area past the gate was. Even though he cursed, he still went forward and entered the gate, setting foot into the mansion.

Huang Ying followed shortly after him, passing through the gate and entering the mansion. After passing through the gate, it felt like Huang Ying had entered a completely new world.

The sound from the abandoned city completely vanished. The air was no longer as arid and still as it was outside, replaced by a cool and refreshing breeze that brought with it the calming smell of grass and flowers.

After entering the mansion, the darkness had completely dissipated. Huang Ying turned his head to take in the surroundings, but contrary to what he expected, he wasn't standing in a forest or a small meadow.

The area around him was a large hall. The mansion looked completely massive from the outside, so Huang Ying expected the inside to be full of rooms and designed like a maze. But as he stood inside, it looked like this hall alone took up almost 90% of the mansion, no matter where he looked, the hall just continued onward.

Xin Yang who was standing next to him was also looking at their surroundings with a confused look. The hall was basically completely empty, a few pillars reaching towards the ceiling placed at various locations in the hall.

“Finally, I was wondering how long I would have to wait before I would get new visitors.”

While Huang Ying and Xin Yang were looking around, a powerful and vigorous voice rang out from in front of them. Quickly looking forward, they saw a simple golden throne standing ahead of them.

There was a tall man, standing at nearly four meters in height, clad in fur rags sitting on the throne, looking at them with a faint smile. The man's skin was pale as snow, black lines slithering around beneath his skin. His body was so pale that he seemed sickly, but his entire body was covered in bulging muscles. He had short and spiky brown hair, with eyes that seemed completely dead and unfocused.

    “Who are you?”

Xin Yang couldn't help but ask when he saw the man. The man looked much like the pale people that had chased them when they were in the abandoned city, but the ones that were chasing them didn't seem like they were capable of speech. He was also almost four meters tall, taller than any normal human, Xin Yang had never seen a human grow this large.

“I am the king. You can consider me the final challenge on this floor. Get through me and you can move on to the next floor.”

The large man slowly stood up as he spoke, grabbing a large sword from beside the throne. The sword was made out of a strange gray material, looking exceedingly crude and simple. The sword was as wide as Huang Ying's thighs, and almost three meters long, reaching the same length as a spear.

“Now then, it has been so long since I have had any intruders come so far, so please don't die too fast.”

The large man grabbed the massive sword with two hands and grinned at Huang Ying and Xin Yang, his entire body brimming with a nearly mad fighting intent. The large man stepped forward, charging at Huang Ying and Xin Yang.

Huang Ying expected that the large man would be rather slow because of his large build, but he shot towards Huang Ying and Xin Yang like an arrow leaving the bow. He arrived in front of Xin Yang almost within the blink of an eye, swinging his sword downwards.

Xin Yang pushed Huang Ying to the side and used the resulting force to propel himself to the side, dodging the descending sword. When the sword hit the floor, the tiles exploded into a rain of dust and shrapnel.

“Fucking hell, that enough force for you? Got any plan Ying?”

Xin Yang couldn't help but shout out. If that sword hit either of them, no point in talking about bones, not even any hair would be left of them. The large man not only had a massive amount of strength, he also had insane speed. Fighting him without a plan would be stupid. While talking, he kept on dodging the attacks of the large man, who seemed adamant about killing him first.

“I have an idea that might work, just follow my lead and attack him.”

Huang Ying sized up the large man for a short second, considering all the cards he had available before quickly nodding his head. If he was given enough time, it should indeed be possible.

    “Good!”

Xin Yang didn't ask about the plan, the large man could hear them, so having Huang Ying explain the plan would be worse than pointless. He dodged one of the large man's attacks by hopping to the side. When his foot hit the ground, he quickly charged forward, attacking the right arm of the large man.

Xin Yang had noticed that while the large man had a fast movement speed when he charged forward, he was not very agile and flexible. His movement speed and attack speed was severely limited when he was forced to make many turns and twists.

Xin Yang didn't have any Qi available, but once he focused all his attacks on one spot, damage could quickly accumulate. Xin Yang decided to focus all his attacks on the large man's right elbow. Once he managed to wound his elbow, the large man would no longer be able to attack with all his force.

Huang Ying paid close attention while Xin Yang was fighting the large man, especially when Xin Yang attacked him. Seeing the large man have no reaction to Xin Yang's attacks, a smirk spread on Huang Ying's face. If things were like this, this fight would end up being easier than he thought.

Huang Ying wasted no more time, charging directly towards the large man. Xin Yang saw Huang Ying charge forward and knew that Huang Ying was about to implement whatever plan he had. Xin Yang increased the speed of his attack, almost completely disregarding defending, doing his utmost to create an opening for Huang Ying.

The large man knew that Huang Ying and Xin Yang had something planned, but he had always been confident about his strength. When he was alive, he barely had any enemies that could fight with him, and after dying, his strength only increased.

Huang Ying clenched his fists quickly before stretching out his fingers, a drop of dark red liquid present on each finger tip. He charged into the bosom of the large man, using the opening Xin Yang gave him, and stabbed out with his fingers in quick succession.

He stabbed out ten times, each finger landing on a different place on the large man's body. Huang Ying put all his physical strength into the stabs, causing them to be so fast that you could only see a blur. His fingers didn't manage to leave behind a wound on the large man, on the contrary it was Huang Ying's fingers who felt like they were breaking.

But Huang Ying never expected his finger stabs to produce any damage. He quickly glanced at the places he had stabbed and saw a dark red liquid seep into the skin of the large man. Huang Ying had purposely chosen places that were vital, like the throat and chest, around both eyes and ears, and elbows and knees.

Seeing the liquid seep into the large man's body, Huang Ying nodded at Xin Yang and they both pulled back at the same time. The large man looked at Huang Ying with suspicion in his eyes. He knew that Huang Ying had done something, but he was not certain what Huang Ying had done.

    “What did you do?!”

The large man looked at Huang Ying and shouted. Seeing the smirk on Huang Ying's face he felt an unease brew in his chest. Even when he was alive, he rarely ever felt an unease like this, like he was being stared at by a demon that was judging his life and death.

“You shouldn't have given away your sense of touch and pain, it can be surprisingly helpful when detecting foreign substances.”

Huang Ying smirked and gave a vague answer. He didn't bother to explain more, only clapping his hands with a smile. The clap seemed almost like a sort of signal. When the clap sounded out, black flames suddenly engulfed the body of the large man.

The black flames spewed out from the ten places Huang Ying had stabbed with his fingers, quickly spreading to cover the large man's entire body. The large man looked at the flames covering his body, but he didn't react. Just like Huang Ying had said, he had already given up his sense of touch and pain when he got this body.

“I see, so this is what you meant. You infused the blood of that little bird into my body and ignited it using the birds Bloodline Limit?”

The large man calmly looked at Huang Ying while his skin and flesh were melting. He had lived for a long time, and spent an even longer time as the king of this place, he had seen many things. Huang Ying gave a simple nod to the man's words, but he was also slightly shocked that he had seen through it so quickly.

Little Flame was a Vermilion Bird that mutated due to Huang Ying's blood. Vermilion Birds had the blood of the phoenix, so they could be considered creatures that are born of flames. Every part of their body could be lit aflame, even their blood.

If the large man hadn't lost his sense of pain and touch, he would be able to feel the foreign blood coursing through his body. If he had reacted in time, he could have used his strength to push the blood out of his body, diverting all the danger.

“I see. It is rather clever. Since you managed to get past me, it can be considered as you passing. Just touch the throne and you can leave. ”

The large man seemed to shrug his shoulders as he spoke, but since he was covered in fire, it was hard to tell. He pointed to the throne as he spoke. Once he finished speaking, his entire body was surrounded by a corona of light, his entire body suddenly vanishing.

As his body vanished, ten drops of dark red liquid flew away from where he once stood, quickly merging back into Huang Ying's chest. Burning the blood of Little Flame allowed him to quickly end the fight, but the Vermilion Bird was no phoenix.

A Phoenix was eternal, once it became weak it could just rebirth itself in fire. While the Vermilion Bird could also do this, it could not do it an infinite number of times. If Huang Ying kept burning the blood of Little Flame, it would reach a point where it would have to rebirth itself in fire, and there was no telling how many more times it could do that.

“Let's go, i'm fed up with this place.”

Xin Yang patted Huang Ying on the shoulder and headed for the golden throne. The golden throne emitted a strange suction force, once Xin Yang and Huang Ying laid their hands in the throne, their bodies were immediately sucked into it, vanishing from the large hall.
  • Chapter 66: The lives once lost.

Yuan Shi felt like the world around him was tumbling down. He had followed his patriarch and his senior sisters and brothers to kill the person who had killed their young patriarch. They were even going to collaborate with the people from the Tao, Mo, Shen, and Zhong clan.

It was supposed to be just a quick fight. Yuan Shi and the other disciples were only brought along because it was a good opportunity for them to see the power of their patriarch. That was all it was, a quick fight and a triumphant return.

So how did it end up like this? The Zhong matriarch was killed right after the fight began, turning into a frozen corpse. The Shen patriarch had his leg completely broken and his head cut of.

The boy in front of them seemed more like a monster than a human. His white hair danced in the wind, a glistening red halberd in his hand. He charged at the Mo Patriarch with a mad grin. He even mentioned that he hadn't even turned 15 yet. How could a monster like him be that young?

Yuan Shi didn't get much more time to think about it. The disciples around him started shouting at the boy after he insulted their patriarch, and then they started charging forward. Yuan Shi wanted to leave, he didn't want to charge forward. But he was pushed by the disciples behind him, forced to charge forward.

They didn't manage to get very far. The massive black serpent only looked at them with it's amber eyes, devoid of all emotion. It charged at them, it's massive body crushing their bones, it's gaping maw swallowing them whole. Even the disciples that got crushed by it turned into black smoke that was sucked up by the black serpent.

Yuan Shi had never been this scared before. His pants had already been dirtied, his body devoid of all strength. He felt a nauseating feeling well up from his stomach. He just wanted to cry and vomit, to escape. The black serpent didn't even look at him, it's tail just smashed down on him, and then everything went black.

He opened his eyes again. He was still trapped on that battlefield, still trapped in that hell. His white fur was stained with blood, his claws broken and his body drained of energy. The world around him was burning with fire so strong that not even his ice could stop it. His eyes drifted around the battlefield.

In the distance he could see a massive scarlet bird, seven large feathers trailing behind it. He knew that this was Phoenix. Phoenix was fighting a green robed cultivator, storm winds howling all around him.

Turning his head a bit more he could see a large black turtle with a snake for a tail, yellow light glowing around him, the earth itself trembling beneath him. Yet that black turtle was being held back by a single cultivator, purple lightning covering the skies around the two of them.

Not far from him was a massive azure dragon crackling with lightning. Yet that dragon was also held back by a single cultivator, a pitch black light radiating from him.

Phoenix, Blue Lizard, and Black Turtle were all being held down, unable to aid each other. He himself was already devoid of energy, his once pristine white fur discolored by blood and burns. Since it was like this, he could only put his hopes on that Black snake.

He turned his head once more, hoping to see how the situation was for that Black Snake. He could see in the distance, that Black Snake surrounded by cultivators, a myriad of lights raining down upon him.

The Black Snake tried to fight, black smoke seeping out of his body, covering the entire world around him in a dreadfull might. The earth itself was disappearing under that black smoke. But it was not enough in the end. They lost the war, but since they couldn't be killed, they were locked away.

He himself was locked away in an underground prison, sealed below a layer of ice that was never supposed to melt. Even after all the fighting was over and they had been locked away, he never got to know why they had been attacked. They had raised them like children, guarded them all their lives, yet they still came and attacked them.

He lamented how cruel the world they had created was, but no matter how much he cursed, the past would never change. He lowered his head and closed his eyes. He was too scared to do what that little Black Snake had done. Too scared to reincarnate as a human. So he could only wait, wait for the day that little Black Snake would come for him.

When he opened his eyes again, he was on a vast and desolate plain. The earth beneath him was completely black, cracked and dry. The sky above him was gray and dreary, filling his chest with sadness.

He looked down at his own body, inspecting every inch of it. Once he finished inspecting his body, he couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief. He was finally in his own body, he was finally Huang Ying again.

“Isn't this a bit too fucked up?”

Huang Ying couldn't help but curse out as he looked at the desolate plain around him. He had already lost count of how long he had been here. All he knew was that whenever he closed his eyes, he would find himself in the body of someone else, reliving their most vivid nightmares.

He had already seen several hundred nightmares. He had experience the fear of the people he once lived with meeting their end in the maw of a massive black serpent, a black serpent he summoned. He had lived as a young bandit getting used as a guinea pig, used to find out exactly how Huang Ying's powers worked.

Huang Ying knew what was going on, he even had a theory about how these ruins worked. When they first entered, they had landed in an illusion array. The illusion array tested their endurance and ability to examine and understand their surroundings.

After that, they ended up in an abandoned city, devoid of their ability to use their Qi. In the city, they were chased by pale people that seemed more like dolls than humans. The pale people were physically strengthened, and it ended with them fighting the king of the pale people.

Had it not been for Huang Ying using the powers of Little Flame, they too would have had to fight the king using just their physical bodies. So it could be assumed that the second area tested their physical strength.

In this area, Huang Ying kept reliving the most painful memories of everyone he had killed. The theory Huang Ying had was that this area tested a persons mental strength, pitting them against their worst nightmares, their heart demons. But because Huang Ying devoured the memories of nearly every person he had killed so far, he was also forced to relive their heart demons.
  • Chapter 67: The Lake and the Pavilion.

Huang Ying shook his head to clear his mind and continued walking. He felt like he had already walked on this plain for several months, but he knew that it only felt like this because he kept reliving other peoples worst nightmares.

The desolate plain around him was unchanging. No matter how much he walked, the area around him stayed the same, seemingly trapped in time. The only exception was a small hut he could see in the distance.

The small hut was made out of a few logs of wood, with a thatched roof. It seemed to only be big enough to hold a single room. But this small hut was the only thing in this desolate plain that was slowly getting closer as Huang Ying walked, so he had set getting to this hut as his goal.

Huang Ying kept walking through the plain, adjusting his path every ten steps. He tried to blink as little as he could, but he still ended up blinking once every step, dragging his consciousness into someone else's nightmare.

After walking what seemed to be half the way towards the hut, he had already gone through all the nightmares of the people whose memories he had devoured. Instead of the nightmares stopping, they started repeating and merging, the nightmares of one person fusing with the nightmares of the white tiger and others.

As Huang Ying kept walking, he started spending more and more time with each step. Stopping to guess at which nightmare he would see next and what nightmare it had fused with. He did this mostly to clear his head and keep himself sane. Seeing the most horrible memories and nightmares of other people in a continuous cycle was slowly tearing at his sanity.

Huang Ying didn't know how long he had walked when he found himself by the hut. Looking behind him, there weren't even any tracks left behind in the dust on the ground, like the entire walk had just been another hallucination.

Looking around, the area around the small hut looked the same as every other place on this desolate plain, only the hut was different. There was a small door on the hut, just big enough for Huang Ying to enter.

Huang Ying didn't stop and think for too long before opening the door and entering the hut. He didn't want to keep walking, seeing those nightmares and memories with each step.

After entering the hut, instead of finding himself in a small room, Huang Ying found himself standing in front of a small lake filled with murky gray water. The sky was a deep gray, no cloud or sun in sight, but the area was still light enough for Huang Ying to see his surroundings. A small walk to his left, next to the water, stood a white pavilion.

The pavilion was made out a type of white wood that almost looked like bones. The pavilion was square in shape, with a pointed roof and a clear view of the lake. The wood that the pagoda was made of was carved with exquisite and lifelike carvings of humans and Demonic beasts alike.

There was a table in the middle of the pavilion, two chairs propped up at the table, one on each end. There was a silhouette sitting at the table inside the pavilion, the fragrant scent of tea drifting out from a tea kettle in front of it.

Huang Ying walked up to the pavilion and took a seat at the table. There was nothing else on the table except for a porcelain tea kettle and two cups. Huang Ying grabbed the tea kettle and poured himself a cup of tea. The tea was a transparent red, looking almost like a liquid ruby. Huang Ying sipped the tea slowly, enjoying the heat and the fruity taste of apple for a little while.

While he was drinking, the silhouette across from him also drank some tea slowly, the two of them spending a peaceful moment in silence. After Huang Ying finished his cup of tea and had calmed his mind, he raised his head and studied the person in front of him.

The person in front of him didn't seem much older than Huang Ying, perhaps only being two or three years older. He had long white hair and clear amber eyes and was clad in a loose black robe. Instead of skin, the person's body was covered in black scale, his fingers pointed and sharp, almost like claws.

“It is nice that you are calm, it is much easier to hold a conversation when both parties are calm.”

The first one to break the silence was the black-scaled youth. His voice was surprisingly soothing, almost like a whisper that pulled at your consciousness. As he spoke, he didn't even look at Huang Ying, his eyes constantly on the lake next to the pavilion.

“I have already seen the worst nightmares and memories of everyone whose memories I have devoured, the only one that is left is my own nightmare. You should be that nightmare, correct?”

Huang Ying asked the question that was at the front of his mind. He already had his suspicions when he saw the hut, but it was still best to get a clear confirmation before anything else.

“This form can be called your worst nightmare. You fear that you will stop being human and give in to the gnawing hunger that the blood of Baku brings with it. Because of that, I was given this shape.”

The black-scaled youth shrugged his shoulders at Huang Ying's question and affirmed his suspicious. While shrugging his shoulders, he also casually threw out Huang Ying's deepest fear.

“You are quite casual, considering that you are a monster.”

Huang Ying couldn't help but comment. If the monster in front of him really was what he would become if he gave in to the gnawing hunger, he was quite far away from Huang Ying's expectations. Huang Ying expected him to be more savage and cruel.

“Of course, after all, I am still you, albeit not the current you.”

The black-scaled youth gave a faint smile and turned his eyes away from the lake, looking directly at Huang Ying for the first time since Huang Ying came to the pavilion. When the black-scaled youth looked at him, Huang Ying felt like he was being stared at by a poisonous serpent.

  • Chapter 68: A Talk about the future.

“Do you see that lake? Do you know what that lake is?”

Before Huang Ying had the time to say anything, the black-scaled youth turned his eyes back to the lake and asked a question of his own. Huang Ying followed his eyes and looked to the center of the lake. At the center of the lake was a head peering out from the water, looking directly at Huang Ying and the black-scaled youth.

The skin on the head was a dull gray, it's eyes completely white and unfocused. Dry and unorganized gray hair was cascading down from the head and into the water. The head only looked at them with lifeless eyes, not even blinking as it stared at them.

“It is one of a few possible futures. I am the first and most likely, that lake is the second one. And you are the third one.”

Not waiting for Huang Ying to state his guess, the black-scaled youth spoke out again. While he spoke, he looked at the head staring at them. His eyes were filled with an indescribable sadness as he looked at the lake.

“First? Second? Third? What do you mean?”

When the black-scaled youth spoke about possible futures, he completely lost Huang Ying. Huang Ying thought that he would just have to come and face his worst nightmare once he entered the small hut, he didn't expect to start talking about possible futures.

“When you were talking to that White Tiger, did you never wonder why the previous people who had the blood of Baku never managed to release the Four Guardian Beasts or complete their duty and become the new Baku?”

As the black-scaled youth spoke, he tilted his head to the side and looked at Huang Ying with a slightly bemused expression. As Huang Ying thought over his words, he did indeed find that it didn't make much sense.

According to the White Tiger, that war took place countless eons ago. How many different people with the blood of Baku had been born since then? Why had none of them ever managed to release any of the Four Guardian Beasts, or even become the new Baku?

“The blood of Baku is not a blessing nor is it a gift, not to humans at least, it is more like a curse. A curse that ends with either me, or the one in the lake.”

The black-scaled youth pointed to himself and the head in the center of the lake as he spoke.

“It is quite simple really. When Baku sent his blood and element into the reincarnation cycle, to be reborn into a humans body, he didn't think about how weak humans are. The human body simply cannot contain the blood and concept of Baku.”

“And since it can't contain it, it always ends up turning into either me or the one in the lake, trapped in this vicious cycle.”

As the black-scaled youth spoke, his eyes became slightly unfocused, like he was reminiscing about the past. Or maybe he was reminiscing about a future that would never come to pass?

    “But what exactly are you?”

Since the black-scaled youth said that it was the result of the blood of Baku mixing with humans, it was clear that it was more than just Huang Ying's worst nightmare. He couldn't help but wonder if this black-scaled youth wasn't the blood of Baku talking to him, telling him about what had happened to it's past holders.

“The lake is a mixture of memories and souls. Each memory and soul you devour ends up in that lake, slowly growing as you devour more. Even the souls and memories of Demonic beasts end up in there. Once the lake grows too large for your mind to contain, it will overflow and break you, turning you into a mindless monster that lives to devour souls.”

The Black-scaled youth pointed to the head in the lake once more. Huang Ying couldn't help but turn and look at the lake once more. Once he looked closer at the lake, he noticed that the area around the head was filled with transparent eyes, each staring at Huang Ying and the black-scaled youth.

“This form is much the same. If there should ever come a time that your body is too weak to fully contain the hunger, or you should give in to the hunger, you will become this form. A monster that lives only to destroy and devour everything. Of course, in both cases, you will just end up being killed by someone sooner or later, so there is not much of a future to talk about.“

After talking about the lake, the black-scaled youth pointed at himself. He had a faint smile on his face as he spoke in a self deprecating way, like he was mocking what he and the head in the lake had become.

“And the third future? What future do I embody?”

Huang Ying sat in silence for a short while before asking a question. Since the black-scaled youth said that he was the third future, it clearly meant that there were more options ahead of him.

“You are neither of us. You are someone who wasn't broken by the hunger or the overflow of souls. You are someone who broke the curse of Baku and became a completely new existence. This future has been a possibility for everyone who came before you, but none has managed to grasp it.”

“Since you have the blood of the White Tiger, slightly repressing the blood of Baku, and even some Vermilion Bird blood in you, the odds of you grasping this future are much higher than any of your predecessors.”

The black-scaled youth's eyes were blazing as he spoke. He and the one in the lake had repeated this cycle countless times already, but now they finally met someone that had the chance to break this vicious cycle, how could he not be excited.

“And what future did Baku hope for when he sent himself into the reincarnation cycle?”

Huang Ying couldn't help but ask. According to what the White Tiger had said, Baku sent himself into the reincarnation cycle so that someone could free the Four Guardian Beasts. But if every human who inherited the blood of Baku ended up as a monster, how could anyone ever free the Four Guardian Beasts? What did Baku truly hope for when he sent his blood into the reincarnation cycle?

“What makes you think that Baku ever hoped for anything?”

In response to Huang Ying's question, the black-scaled youth only gave a smile and asked a question back.
  • Chapter 69: As your heart desires, so it shall be.

“But he has to have hoped for something right? If not, why would he send his blood and element into the reincarnation cycle to be reborn in a human body?”

Huang Ying couldn't help but be perplexed. Of course Baku must have hoped for something, if he didn't he would not have sent his own blood and element into the reincarnation cycle.

“Did you hope for something when you killed those people in Yellow Winds Town? You didn't did you? You just did what your heart desired. You wanted to kill them, so you killed them.”

The black-scaled youth tilted his head and spoke about what Huang Ying did in the past. His words reminded Huang Ying that he was indeed not hoping for anything when he started a massacre in Yellow Winds Town. He wanted to kill the patriarchs, so he did.

“Baku was just like that, doing whatever his heart desired and avoiding whatever he didn't want. What point is there in worrying about the future or the past? Just do what you want to do.”

“Baku was tired of partaking in that charade, so he found a good excuse to remove himself from their game, pushing the responsibility onto someone else.”

The black-scaled youth spoke more cryptic words and chuckled. He looked towards the head in the lake once more. Seeing the head in the lake nod at him, he gave it a short nod and stood up and left the pavilion.

“Now it is time for you to leave, we have already talked enough. Once you defeat me and the one in the lake, you can leave this mental dimension and continue on with exploring the ruins. Don't forget, whatever your heart desires, so it shall be.”

“Oh right, one more thing. Once you learn the truth at the end of these ruins, it is up to you how you want to proceed. Baku himself never had much interest in partaking or ending the charade, but maybe you will.”

Not waiting for Huang Ying to ask any more question, the black-scaled youth spoke up and told him it was time to leave. Once the black-scaled youth finished his words, the pavilion vanished and Huang Ying found himself standing on that desolate plain once more.

The small hut was gone, but the lake was still left behind. The black-scaled youth stood next to the lake, looking at Huang Ying indifferent eyes. Before Huang Ying had the time to ask any more questions, the water in the lake started surging.

As the water surged, more and more phantom forms started appearing from inside the lake, slowly climbing up onto land next to the black-scaled youth. Huang Ying didn't have to look too closely to see that each phantom was someone or something he had killed and devoured. Even all the Blood Ant he had slain after entering The Wilderness were there.

“All you have to do is kill all of us and you can leave this test.”

The black-scaled youth spoke again, his vision sweeping across all the phantom forms that were taking shape and solidifying next to him. Huang Ying couldn't help but be slightly shocked as he looked at the small army that was forming next to the black-scaled youth. Without him noticing it, he had already slain so many people?

“Before I do this, just what are you really? Since you are able to tell me all this, you are clearly more than just my worst nightmare.”

Huang Ying turned his eyes to the black-scaled youth as he spoke. The black-scaled youth knew so much about the previous incarnations of Baku, he even talked about things Huang Ying didn't know yet.

“Within the blood of Baku lies the memories of every previous incarnation of Baku. I am the collection of those memories. I just took the chance that this mental test presented to hijack this form and tell you a few things you needed to know about yourself.”

The black-scaled youth shrugged his shoulders and pointed to Huang Ying. Every previous incarnation of Baku would have this conversation about their future sooner or later, it was only a question of when.

Since it was the collection of memories from the previous incarnations of Baku, it did not want another one to walk down the path that they had walked. It wanted someone to break the cycle, to stop the continuous reincarnating and allow their memories to vanish like their bodies had so long ago.

“I see, then I guess I should thank you for telling me so much.”

Huang Ying gave a short bow as thanks to the black-scaled youth. His mind was now clearer than it had ever been. He didn't care too much about what the black-scaled youth said about the possible futures. But when the black-scaled youth talked about how Baku lived, the words stuck with him.

What point is there in worrying about the past or the future? Just do what you want to do. If your heart tells you to kill someone, kill them. It tells you to save someone? Save them. As your heart desires it, so it shall be.

“No need to thank us, we only told you in the hopes that you can break this vicious cycle.”

The black-scaled youth shook his head as he spoke. He swept the surroundings with his eyes, looking at all the phantoms that had taken shape around him. He gave a quick nod of his head before waving his hand, signaling all the phantoms to charge forward.

Seeing the phantoms charge at him, Huang Ying didn't have any reaction. He turned his eyes towards the gray sky and did just as the black-scaled youth told him. As your heart desires it, so it shall be.

When Huang Ying turned his head towards the sky, black clouds started appearing above them, covering the entire sky and shrouding the land in darkness. The clouds were surging, large swathes of flames billowing out from within the clouds.

While flames were surging in the sky, frost started covering the ground. Ice grew out from the ground and shackled all the phantoms down, freezing their bodies to the ground.

The black-scaled youth said that this was a mental test, so it was most likely taking place within Huang Ying's own mind. And since this place was most likely Huang Ying's own mind, it was only reasonable that he had complete control over it. Summoning flames that covered the entire sky and ice that covered the entire earth was done by just the slightest movement of Huang Ying's mind. It was also his first real taste of power, and he had to admit that it was very enjoyable.

As the fires surged in the sky, a massive black body revealed itself from the clouds. A massive serpentine body covered in black scales, sharp spikes traversing down it's entire back, feathery black wings that seemed to cover the entire earth, and two massive amber eyes that seemed to oversee all life.

Looking at the massive body in the sky, the black-scaled youth couldn't help but smile. The Baku that Huang Ying could summon was the best measurement of how far Huang Ying had strayed from the path of the normal Baku.

Normally, the Baku he would summon would look just like the normal Baku, a large black serpent. Every previous incarnation of Baku would summon a large black serpent.

But since he had devoured the blood of the White Tiger and the newly mutated Little Flame, his own Baku had grown spikes and wings. If one day, the Baku Huang Ying summoned no longer had the characteristics of Baku, it would mean that he had stepped onto a completely new path.

The wings that had grown on his own Baku were a result of him absorbing the newly mutated blood of Little flame, but it's size was only the result of Huang Ying's wishes. If he attempted to summon it in the real world, while it would look the same, it would be much smaller than it was now.

Huang Ying moved his eyes to the horde of phantoms ahead of him, his eyes landing on the black-scaled youth and the lake located behind the horde. He gave a faint smile before directing the Baku in the sky.

The massive black serpent opened it's maw and released a loud roar that reverberated across the entire desolate plain. The ice covering the earth started cracking from the sound waves alone.

After roaring, the black serpent turned it's head downward and dived down with it's maw open. It's maw was large enough to cover the entire desolate plain. With a single bite of it's maw, the entire plain vanished and the world descended into darkness.
  • Chapter 70: Descendant of the Azure Dragon.

When Huang Ying opened his eyes again, he found himself lying on the ground in a slightly damp cave. The surrounding walls and ceiling were a dark yellow and looked almost like sand. Upon closer inspection, Huang Ying found that while the dark yellow earth looked like sand, it was surprisingly dense and sturdy, allowing the cave to stand steady.

The smell of cooked meat and smoke filled the air around him. Turning his head to the side, he could see Xin Yang sitting next to a small fire, cooking some meat. The meat was a deep red and Huang Ying could see that it was filled with Qi, so it clearly came from a Demonic beast.

    “How long was I out?”

Huang Ying sat up and stretched his body before walking over and sitting down next to the fire. He did not know how long he had been inside that mental test, but he was certain that this mental test shared the same characteristics as the first test, time moving faster inside the test than it did outside.

“Around five days time. When I woke up, we were both lying in the center of an illusion array, but since you refused to wake up, I could only carry you away and find a place to rest temporarily.”

Xin Yang pulled out some meat from the fire and tossed some to Huang Ying, slowly eating some himself as well. When Huang Ying bit into the meat, he found that it was incredibly bitter, even after being cooked, so it was probably from a poisonous type Demonic beast.

    “Where is this?”

Despite the unpleasant taste of the meat, Huang Ying continued eating as he asked more questions. He currently did not know where they were, but he was sure that they would have to fight something at some point, so keeping his energy up was a necessity.

“Not far from where we first entered this floor, I didn't want to risk traveling too far while you were out.”

Xin Yang took out a water pouch from his storage and threw it to Huang Ying. Even though he wanted to know why Huang Ying was out for five days, he knew that they had been confronted by their mental demons, their worst nightmares, so it would be improper to ask.

“Do you know anything about this place?”

Huang Ying slowly drank from the water pouch as he once more scanned the surroundings. Except for the fact the the Natural Energy in the air here was more abundant than it was in the outside world, it didn't seem too different.

Huang Ying was also pleasantly surprised to discover that his Qi crystal was no longer sealed, neither were his bloodlines. This meant that while they were on this floor, he would have access to his full strength should he need it.

He was slightly disappointed when he found that he could still not contact Li Jun, but he quickly returned his mental state to normal. He could not change the situation, so there was no point in worrying about it.

“A little bit, exactly how valid the information is I don't quite know, but it should be at least 90% true.”

Xin Yang rubbed the ring on his finger, and the head of a large snake appeared next to him. The head was covered in vibrant green scales, it's mouth filled with razor sharp teeth that were as long as Huang Ying's fingers.

“I found this one not far from this cave, I had him give me all the information he knew about this place before I killed him. After killing him, I used a memory searching technique to verify the information.”

“This entire floor is shaped like a large forest, with small plains spread all around. There are no humans on this floor, instead, Demonic beasts are the rulers of this floor, even building a city of their own.”

“This one didn't know too much about the rulers of the city, only that the king of the city can take human form, but most of the Demonic beasts within the city are either at the early stages of the Xiantian Builder stage, or the late stages of the 9 Heavens of Houtian.”

For a Demonic beast to take human shape, and when it could do so, depended on two factors, it's strength and it's potential. The higher the potential of a Demonic beast, in most cases it's bloodline, the stronger it had to become before it could take human form.

Taking human form allowed the Demonic beast to integrate into human society, even going as far as having children with humans. Once a Demonic beast took human form, if it chooses to completely change it's form, it would be incredibly hard to tell it apart from a normal human, so they were well suited for infiltration.

“There is a mountain where the 'God' of these Demonic beasts lives. Their 'God' is a Demonic beast with the blood of the Azure Dragon. The mountain where he lives supposedly gives of some faint spatial fluctuations at times, so my guess is that there is a Spatial Array on that mountain, probably leading to the next floor.”

After he finished speaking, Xin Yang stored away the head of the snake once more. The stronger a Demonic beast, the more worth it's body was. This snake was only at the 9th heaven, but it's scales could be used to make armor, while it's teeth could be used to make weapons. Once he dug out it's Demon Crystal, he could even use it to create a weapon with the poison attribute.

Every Demonic beast had a Demon Crystal, it was what made them Demonic beasts. Whether or not the Demon crystal was something they were born with, or something that they acquired when they were just humans or normal beasts didn't matter. Once one had a Demon Crystal, they became a Demonic beast.

To grow stronger, Demonic beasts would slowly strengthen their Demon Crystal, using rare herbs or the blood of stronger Demonic beasts to slowly strengthen it. This Demon Crystal contained the entire strength and element of the Demonic beast, it could be used for a myriad of things, alchemy and forging being the main points.

“So our best course of action is to enter that city and find out more information about their god?”

Huang Ying knew that entering the city would be slightly risky, but he also knew that simply entering the mountain without proper information would be riskier. Any Demonic beast that could be revered as a god by Demonic beasts at the early stages of the Xiantian realm was clearly not simple.

The fact that this 'god' also held the blood of the Azure Dragon was also a cause for concern. The bloodline of the Azure Dragon was the bloodline of one of the Four Guardian Beasts. Depending on how much of the Azure Dragon bloodline this Demonic beast had, the fight would be much harder. Just one drop of the Azure Dragon bloodline was not too much of a threat, but Huang Ying was not optimistic enough to believe that it would only have one drop of Azure Dragon bloodline.

At the same time, Huang Ying got more and more interested in the creator of these ruins. The creator of these ruins managed to not only seal off Huang Ying's contact with a soul that was residing within his own body, but also the blood of Baku and the White Tiger in his body. There was also a descendant of the Azure Dragon living in the ruins. If someone told Huang Ying that the creator of these ruins had nothing to do with the Four Guardian Beasts, there was no way he would believe them.

“Indeed, entering the city is a must, but I suggest we gather some more information first. Hunt down a few Demonic beasts that live in the outskirts of the city and search their memories, the like.”

Xin Yang had the same opinion as Huang Ying, they had to enter the city and gather more information about this 'god'. But before entering the city, gathering a bit of information about the city was also necessary. With their plans laid down, Huang Ying and Xin Yang decided to wait a few more hours before setting their plan into motion.
  • Chapter 71: An unknown Connection.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang left the cave not long after the light outside dimmed. There was no sun to illuminate the inside of the ruins, it instead used a formation to project the sunlight from the outside, into the ruins, allowing the ruins to keep a day rhythm that matched the outside.

Most Demonic beasts were not nocturnal creatures, but some still preferred to hunt at night, as most of the prey that they enjoyed eating was nocturnal. Huang Ying and Xin Yang decided to start their plan after dark as it would allow them to act a bit more covertly, reducing the chance of them being discovered prematurely.

The area outside the cave was a dense forest, just enough space for one person to move between each tree. The trees were a muddy brown, their bark looking more like mud than actual bark, even the leaves had an earthy brown color.

Huang Ying was clad in a sky blue robe, and Xin Yang in a light yellow robe, so before they left the cave, they had intentionally covered their robes in dirt. This not only allowed them to blend in better with their surroundings, but it also made them look more feral, which would hopefully allow them to blend in with the Demonic beasts inside the city once they entered.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang both had excellent vision, so they didn't have to search for too long before they spotted a Demonic beast in the distance. The Demonic beast was shaped like a bear, but it was only as large as a wolf. It's fur was colored a light grey, and two tentacles grew out from it's back, each tentacle ending in a palm sized spike.

    “Wait for me here.”

Xin Yang waved for Huang Ying to stop and started sneaking forward. The Demonic beast was only at the 7th heaven, so Huang Ying wasn't worried that Xin Yang would mess up and let it get away.

Once Xin Yang got within 100 meters of the Demonic beast, he moved his finger, conjuring forth a few daggers from his interspatial ring. The daggers were completely black, with a blade the size of a normal hand.

When he summoned the daggers, wind started blowing around Xin Yang, before settling around the daggers, causing them to float in the air. This was one of the advantages the wind element had, it was nearly invisible. With a slight thought from Xin Yang, the daggers shot forward. Carried by the wind, the daggers moved quickly and silently, almost immediately reaching the Demonic beast.

Xin Yang did not want to waste any time, so the first daggers that hit the Demonic beast dug into it's eyes and throat, sealing it's vision and voice. The rest of the daggers were the finishing blow, each one striking a vital, yet undefended point.

Huang Ying had to admit that Xin Yang had excellent control, he knew exactly where to strike to get the best effect. His attack was quick and silent, not even giving the opponent the chance to react. Huang Ying's fighting style on the other hand had mostly focused on quick and grandiose, focusing on ending the fight as quickly as possible, without much finesse.

After killing the Demonic beast, Xin Yang waited for a few minutes to make sure that no other Demonic beast had noticed and came to inspect. After making sure that there were no other Demonic beasts nearby, he went over and stored away the body of the Demonic beast, quickly returning to Huang Ying.

“Here, you devouring it's memories will be more useful than me using the memory searching technique.”

Xin Yang brought out the body of the Demonic beast and dropped it in front of Huang Ying as he spoke. Just as Huang Ying was about to nod his head and agree, his expression froze. He suddenly narrowed his eyes and jumped backwards. As he jumped, he also drew out some Qi from his Qi crystal, causing scarlet flames to bloom in the air around him.

    “Just who are you?!”

Huang Ying kept a close watch on Xin Yang as he spoke, the flames around him separating into several smaller balls, ready to attack at a moments notice. The number of people in this world that knew he had the devouring element only reached three people, Li Jun, Jing He, and himself.

Li Jun was currently sealed away, Jing He had been returned to her clan, and Huang Ying had never talked about, or shown that he has the devouring element. This could only mean that Xin Yang had heard it from someone else, but Huang Ying had no idea who else could possibly know. Could it be the same person who wanted the Empyrean Phoenix Academy to catch him alive.

While Huang Ying's thoughts were racing, Xin Yang was looking at him with a confused expression. After studying Huang Ying's expression, it struck him that Huang Ying didn't seem to know who he was.

    “Wait, you don't know me?”

Xin Yang couldn't help but blurt out, taking a step towards Huang Ying. But when he took the step forward, Huang Ying took a step backwards, the flames around him instantly growing hotter. Taking the hint, Xin Yang stepped back again and raised his hands, indicating his surrender.

“Alright, alright, calm down. I'm not an enemy, let me explain and then you'll understand.”

Xin Yang waved his hands in resignation before sitting down on the ground, storing away the body of the Demonic beast once more. If he left it lying outside of his interspatial storage for too long, it was uncertain if the devouring element would still be able to devour any of it's memories.

“Let me start by addressing your first concern, I am not the only one who knows about your devouring element. Nearly every decently sized clan and academy in the center region of the continent knows.”

While Xin Yang was talking, Huang Ying still kept a close watch in him, but he couldn't help but be shocked at his words. Nearly every decently sized clan in the center region knew? How could they possibly know? At the same time, he couldn't help but get a bit scared. If nearly everyone knew, wouldn't that mean that traveling to the center region was the same as heading to his death?

“To be more specific, they know that someone with that element has been born, they don't know that it is you that holds it. The only person who knows that is me. And it's not as bad as you think, very few people are adamant about killing the holder of the devouring element, most people simply want to study it.”

Seeing Huang Ying's slightly frightened expression, Xin Yang opened his mouth again to assure him. At the same time he also explained to Huang Ying about how most people saw the devouring element. He knew that Huang Ying was from a small corner of the continent, so he was certain that Huang Ying didn't know how the people of the continent felt about the devouring element.

“How long have you known that it was me? How do you know about me? And how did the people of the center region find out about me?”

Huang Ying slightly lowered his guard as Xin Yang spoke. Xin Yang didn't give off any hostility, instead he sat there and patiently explained. But at the same time, he couldn't trust absolutely everything that Xin Yang said. After all, while Xin Yang seemed to know about him, Huang Ying knew nothing about Xin Yang.

“I have known about you from the start. When we met outside the ruins, I already knew who you were. I mean, come on, did you think a shitty disguise like that could hide anything?”

Listening to his words, the corners of Huang Ying's mouth couldn't help but twitch. He had chosen this disguise because he believed that there was no one in this area who knew what he originally looked like, but now it seemed like it had been completely pointless. With a slight movement of his mind, he undid the disguise, his skin returning to it's normal color and smoothness, the fake scars fading away.

“As for how found out about the devouring element, and how I know about you, that is because of Jing He.”

When he came to this point, Xin Yang couldn't help but sigh. She told him so much about Huang Ying, even going as far as making him help him if they ever met. But forgot to even mention his existence to Huang Ying.

    “Jing He?”

Huang Ying scrunched up his eyebrows at Xin Yang's words. He had spent some time with Jing He, and she did not seem like the person that would go around and wantonly spread other people's secrets.
  • Chapter 72: Soul Oath.

“Yeah, but it's not like you think. Once she was brought back to her clan, she was summoned by the patriarch. The patriarch found signs of the devouring element on her body, so he immediately forced her to tell him everything.”

Xin Yang could tell what Huang Ying was thinking, so he shrugged his shoulders and explained what happened. The patriarch of the Jing Clan had reached an unknown level of power, so he was extremely sensitive to the power of the different elements. Sensing the devouring element was no problem.

“After he learned everything, he called up a meeting with the patriarchs of the other clans, the end result was that they spread the news.”

“While she told them everything about the devouring element, she lied about you, saying that it was someone she met in a place called Yellow Winds Town that had the devouring element.”

“The reason I know about you is because she told me. She knew that I was going to be traveling the continent, so she asked me to help you if I ever met you.”

After Xin Yang finished explaining he looked to Huang Ying, waiting for his response. He had told him the truth, but wether or not Huang Ying believed him was still uncertain.

He had been traveling with Huang Ying for only a few days, but because of the illusion array at the entrance, it had been several months for them. He quite liked Huang Ying's personality, so if Huang Ying decided to leave and travel on his own, it would be quite a shame.

“Why would she tell you? And how can I possibly believe that you truly know her?”

From his words about the meeting, and how he even knew what Jing He had said, it was clear that Xin Yang had a rather high position in the center region. Huang Ying also felt that he did not lie to him, but what he could not wrap his head around was why Jing He would tell Xin Yang about him.

“I know that the hairpin you use is the one she gave you before she was taken back to the clan, I also know that the hairpin she is currently using was a gift from you, that should prove that I truly do know her. As for why she would tell me, that is because I am her fiance, so I have spent quite a bit of time with her, she finds me trustworthy.”

Xin Yang was relieved that Huang Ying seemed to believe him. To answer Huang Ying's question, he brought out some information that Jing He had told him and said that no one but the two of them knew.

    “Fiance?”

Huang Ying couldn't help but raise his eyebrow at Xin Yang's words, giving him a strange look. When he first met Jing He, she had already escaped from her clan, at that point she was only around 12 years old. That was less than a year ago, so she should only be around 13 at this point. To propose to a 13 year old girl?

“Don't look at me like that, our marriage was decided by our clans before we were even born. You should at least know that you can trust me now, so could you please put away those flames?”

Facing Huang Ying's look, Xin Yang was completely helpless and could only explain it like it was. He wasn't thrilled about being engaged to such a small girl either, he was a free spirited man, to be married to a single person would be a shame.

“Not yet, I want you to swear a Soul Oath. Only then will I truly trust you.”

Huang Ying was almost completely convinced that what Xin Yang was saying was the truth, but he still wanted something more to set his mind at ease. A Soul Oath was a type of oath one could take that was based on their soul.

A body was made up of three entities, the soul, the mind, and the body. The mind was where a persons memories were stored, the body was the container, and the soul was what kept everything together. Once you were strong enough, you could live without a body. If your mind was damaged, you could repair it. But if the soul was destroyed, the person would die completely, without even the chance of reincarnation.

A Soul Oath was an oath that used the power of the Great God of Death to search the soul of the oath taker. If the oath taker broke the oath, or was found to be lying, his soul would be destroyed by the Great God of death. It was the single most effective way of finding out the truth.

“She really wasn't lying, you really do things excessively.”

Xin Yang couldn't help but mutter under his breath, but seeing Huang Ying's expression, he once more raised his arms in surrender and opened his mouth to take the oath.

“Fine, fine. I, Xin Yang, hereby swear upon my soul that every word I have spoken is the truth and that I have no intention to harm you, Huang Ying. There, happy?”

After finishing the oath, Xin Yang looked to Huang Ying. There was no way he could lie under a Soul Oath, so there was no longer any reason for Huang Ying to distrust him.

“So what's the situation in the center region of the continent?”

Huang Ying dismissed the flames and sat down not far from Xin Yang. Since Xin Yang had taken a Soul Oath, it was clear that everything he had said was the truth, there was no longer a need to be wary of him.

This was instead a good chance to get more information about the center region, something Huang Ying sorely needed. At the same time, Huang Ying was making a mental note about two people he had to kill no matter what.

When Jing He was taken back to her clan, there were two people that had seen him. They did not see him use the devouring element, but if they were just a little smart, it would not be too hard to figure out that it was most likely Huang Ying who had the devouring element. These two people had to die, no matter what, lest they spill Huang Ying's secret.

Huang Ying did not mind people knowing that he had the devouring element, but that was only if he had the strength to protect himself. Right now he was just an ant who hadn't even reached the Xiantian Builder realm, there were far too many people who could kill him. Until he had the strength to protect himself, he did not want too many people to know his secrets.

“The center region is split into three academies and four clans, adding up to create the Seven Overlords. The three academies are the Eastern Wind Academy, the First Dawn Academy and the Eternal Flame Academy. The four clans are the Jing Clan, the Xin Clan, the Yong Clan, and the Zhao Clan. The Eastern Wind and First Dawn Academy are weaker than any of the four clans, but the Eternal Flame Academy is on the same level of power as the four clans.”

Xin Yang did not mind talking about the center region, he knew that Huang Ying probably knew next to nothing about the center region. He started by talking about the undisputed overlords of the center region. These were the seven entities that Huang Ying needed to know about before entering the center region, lest he accidentally offend them somehow.

“Right now, none of the seven overlords have made any moves or statements about the devouring element, so it seems like they are taking the waiting and observing approach. With the upcoming Dragon Meeting, they are slightly restrained in their actions, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about.”

Xin Yang once more assured Huang Ying that he was not in too much danger, despite people finding out that the holder of the devouring element was born. The upcoming Dragon Meeting also restrained them, so even if they wanted to do something, they had to think about whether or not it was worth it.

Once a person or an organisation reached a high enough level of power and age, it would care more about it's face and reputation than anything. None of the seven overlords would do anything that could hurt their face. Their final positions in the Dragon Meeting were of utmost importance to them, so they would not do anything that could hurt their chances at getting a higher position.

“You said that very few people are adamant with killing the holder of the devouring element, but from what I know, all the previous holders ended up as monsters, why would they not be adamant about killing the holder?”

Huang Ying asked another question that he wondered about. From what he knew, every other holder of the devouring element became a mindless monster. Shouldn't a risk like that be exterminated as soon as possible?

“Because it is not a certainty that the holder of the devouring element ends up as a monster. Before they became monsters, each holder of the devouring element was a peerless powerhouse. Having a friend like that is always a good thing. They also want to study it to see if it is possible to replicate it using the darkness element.”

Xin Yang shrugged his shoulders as he responded. One more friend was always better than one more enemy, especially when that friend was a peerless expert that would only grow stronger the more he fought.

The reason they tried to replicate it using the darkness element was because the darkness element shared similar characteristics as the devouring element. The main difference was that while the darkness element could extinguish other elements, it could not swallow them to empower itself.

“Those are all my questions for now, we should return to focusing on what's ahead of us.”

Huang Ying fondled his chin for a short while as he took in all the information. After thinking for a short while, he nodded his head and decided to return to the task they had at hand. They first had to leave these ruins alive before any of this information would be relevant after all.

Xin Yang had no complaints, giving a quick nod before bringing out the corpse of the bear like Demonic beast once more. At the same time, he was looking forward to seeing just how strong someone who holds the devouring element really was.
  • Chapter 73: The King's Arena.

A few hours after killing the Demonic beast, Huang Ying and Xin Yang stood outside the gates of the demons city, Blue Dragon City, named after their revered god. The entire city was surrounded by large metal walls colored a deep blue and inscribed with a myriad of twisting runes, a defensive array to strengthen the walls.

After devouring the memories of the Demonic beast, Huang Ying learned that there was no special requirements to enter the city, even humans could do it. Any human could enter the city if they found themselves inside the ruins, but they would have to be prepared to defend themselves.

Demonic beasts favored strength above all, they were also more brutal than humans, whenever they banded together, the strongest would always be the leader. This would always produce a heavily competitive society with very few rules, killing on the streets was very common.

Demonic beasts also liked to eat humans as it was an easy way to strengthen themselves. If they wanted to eat other Demonic beasts, they would have to find a Demonic beast that had either the same bloodline as them, or one that was very similar. If they ate someone with a bloodline that did not match theirs, it would be very easy to suffer a backlash from the two bloodlines fighting each other.

They did not have this problem when eating humans. When they ate humans, they could immediately absorb the Qi inside the humans body, using it to strengthen their own Demon Crystal, and in some cases even their body.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang marched past the two Demonic beasts that guarded the gate. The two guards were humanoid in shape, but had the same features as wolves, so they were obviously Demonic beasts that took the shape of humans.

The two guards looked at Huang Ying and Xin Yang with a hungry gaze, but they could do nothing but let them enter the city. This was because of two reasons. The first was that they were men who belonged to the king and had gotten strict orders to not touch anyone while they were working. The second reason was that they could feel a dangerous sensation radiating from Huang Ying's body.

The houses in the city were all simple constructions, made out of either stone or wood. The roads were very wide, this was so that even Demonic beasts that had not transformed could walk there. While most buildings were only one or two floors in height, there were two exceptions.

The first exception was a large gray castle that stood at the center of the city, towering above every other building. The castle was built out of normal stone, but it gave off a strong sense of majesty, causing one to notice it no matter where they stood.

The other exception was a large round building not far from the castle. The building was completely round and without a ceiling, with several large openings dotting it's surface. One could hear intermittent cheers coming from the inside of the building. This building was the most popular location in the city, the King's Arena.

This King's Arena was Huang Ying and Xin Yang's goal this time. They needed to find more information about both this city and their revered god. The easiest way to do this was of course for Huang Ying to devour the memories of several of the Demonic beasts. But Huang Ying could not just wantonly kill people on the streets.

While it was normal for people to be killed on the streets, once Huang Ying overdid it and with his status as a human, he could easily face the attacks of everyone in the city. It was also uncertain if the person he killed knew anything of worth.

But the King's Arena was different. Inside the King's Arena, the moment someone stepped onto the stage, their life and death was up to their opponent. Huang Ying could kill as many people as he wanted in the arena with no consequences. Another benefit was that the more people he killed, the stronger opponents he would face.

Huang Ying and Xin Yang wasted no time, heading directly to the arena. To enter the arena did not require one to pay anything. This city was placed within the ruins, so they had no way of getting outside items, like Spirit Stones. Instead, the city used bartering, the customer trading with the seller.

The inside of the arena was very simple. It had one large round stage at the center, the stage almost reaching 300 meters in diameter. Other than the large stage, the rest of the arena consisted of the audience stands. At the very bottom, next to the stage, was a large open area. This area was for the Demonic beasts that had not yet managed to transform.

Above this area was a normal seating area for humanoid Demonic beasts, the seats here were made out of coarse stone. Further above these seats was a slightly more luxurious seats made out of stone covered in fur, these seats were for the soldiers who worked for the king. The final floor only held five seats, one in the center and two on each side of the center one.

The center seat was like a throne, made out of exquisite carved wood covered in fine fur, it even had a pillow. This seat was obviously for the king. The four seats around this throne were also made out of wood and covered in fine fur, but they did not have a pillow, nor were they carved.

Xin Yang was not going to participate in the arena as there was no point in doing so, so he just went to find a seat. Huang Ying went to sign up for fighting in the arena. To fight in the arena, one would have to use their name and race to sign up. After each victory, if there was no one among the audience who volunteered to fight you, the arena would find an opponent that had the same amount of victories as you.

    “Name and Race.”

The one who was responsible for signing up the fighters was a wrinkled old man that seemed to be half man and half rat, clearly he had long since lost interest in maintaining his human form.

    “Huang Ying, Human.”

The rat-man was slightly surprised to see a human participating in the King's Arena, but he still went about his business like a professional. Huang Ying only had to wait around a minute before the rat-man had inscribed his name and race onto a small piece of metal.

“This is your identity plate. Your number of victories will be inscribed on it each time you leave the arena. Killing your opponent and handing over their identity plate can be used to gain certain privileges depending on how high their win streak is.”

The rat-man handed over the identity plate and explained it's usage with a few words. The different privileges ranged from being allowed to stay in the city indefinitely, to being able to meet the king, maybe even exchange a few moves with him if he was in a good mood.

After storing away the identity plate, Huang Ying headed down the corridor that would lead him to the waiting area next to the stage. Since there was still a fight going on, he would have to wait for the current fighter to either die or leave the arena before he could fight.
  • Chapter 74: Entering the arena.

The waiting area was right next to the stage and consisted of a few stone chairs for the next fighters to sit on while they waited. While Huang Ying was waiting, he also took the opportunity to examine the fight that was going down on the stage.

The two contestants were both humanoid Demonic beasts. One of the fighters was a black robed youth with smooth skin and piercing green eyes. His entire body was sleek and thing, clearly made for speed.

He had short green hair and had a few emerald feathers poking out from behind his hears, clearly he was a bird type Demonic beast. From the light green energy radiating from him, Huang Ying could see that he was a wind type Demonic beast.

His opponent was a girl that looked like she was around the same age as Huang Ying. She was clad in a deep blue robe and had hair as white as snow that went all the way down to her waist. She had a slightly petite body and exquisite and smooth features. She had clear blue eyes and a small and cute nose.

She didn't have any Demonic beast features, so she was clearly a rather low class Demonic beast that learned how to transform early on. Her element was lightning, manifesting as light blue sparks around her.

After observing the fight for a little bit, Huang Ying lost all interest. The two fighters were both at the early stage of the Xiantian Builder realm. And while the male youth seemed to have a slight advantage due to his Demonic beast race being slightly higher class than the petite girl, he could not make up for the disparity in elements.

Lightning was slower than Light and less flexible than Wind. But it was faster than Wind, and had more penetrating power than Light. The petite girl clearly knew how to utilize her element to it's greatest potential, using quick and forceful attacks to slowly whittle down her enemy.

After fighting for a few more minutes, the male youth already had several holes in his body, his entire face pale and devoid of blood. The petite girl no longer wasted any time, putting all her energy into her legs and moving forward like a blur. A quick stab of her fingers sealed the throat of the male youth, ending his life.

“Lu Tai dead. Fang Shan wins another round. Are there any challengers?”

A person clad in a gray robe that covered his entire body entered the stage from the side. Using Qi to amplify his voice, he announced the result to everyone. After announcing the results, he scanned the spectators to see if there were any other challengers. Not seeing anyone stand out, he turned towards the petite girl, Fang Shan.

“Since there are no volunteers, would you like to take on the next fighter? Or wait until we manage to find a proper opponent?”

The robed person pointed at Huang Ying who was sitting at the side while he spoke. While Fang Shan could indeed wait until they found a proper opponent, the spectators would quickly get bored if there was no one fighting while they were waiting.

“No thanks. I am done fighting for the day.”

Fang Shan turned her head to study Huang Ying for a little bit before answering. She was rather interested in fighting Huang Ying, it had been a while since a human came here after all. But she could also sense a dangerous sensation from Huang Ying.

When she made eye contact with him, the blood within her body started trembling, so she was certain that this was not someone it was wise to fight. While her blood was trembling, Huang Ying also noticed that the blood within his body gave off a faint thumping when he matched eyes with the girl.

After she finished talking, Fang Shan wasted no more time on the stage, immediately leaving. Instead of leaving the arena, she found a spot in the spectator stands to watch the next fights. Since he could make her blood tremble, there was no way that this human was simple, watching his fights would most likely be worthwhile.

“Very well. May I please invite the next fighter to enter the stage.”

The robed announcer turned to Huang Ying and beckoned for him to enter the stage. After Huang Ying entered the stage, some of the spectators looked over in interest, it had been a while since a human had fought in their arena.

“Now then, the next fighter is Huang Ying, are there any volunteers to fight first?”

The robed announcer was given Huang Ying's information after Huang Ying registered, so there was no need for Huang Ying to bring out his identity plate. After the robed announcer's words stopped, there was a brief moment of silence before one of the Demonic beasts from the lowest levels jumped onto the stage.

    “I'll do it.”

The Demonic beast that jumped onto the stage was covered in dark green scales and looked like a crocodile with longer legs. Huang Ying could see that this Demonic beast was only at the late stages of the 7th heaven. It seemed like just talking was hard for it, so it was clearly still a distance away from being able to take human shape.

“Very well, then I declare this fight started.”

The robed announcer pulled back as he was talking, giving Huang Ying and the crocodile Demonic beast plenty of room. Facing this opponent, Huang Ying couldn't help but heave a sigh. Before the Demonic beast managed to move or voice it's displeasure, large spikes of ice grew out from the ground beneath it, piercing through it's body and head.

After the ice spikes pierced the Demonic beast, Huang Ying undid the seal he had placed on his Qi crystal before he entered the ruins, the Qi of someone at the peak of the 9th heaven slowly leaking out from his body. The reason he sighed before the fight was that he remembered that he forgot to remove the seal on his Qi crystal. This obviously meant that his first opponent would be a weakling, he could get no information from someone like that.

Despite thinking so, black gas still seeped into the body of the dead Demonic beast, devouring it's memories and Demon Crystal. After finishing this, Huang Ying kicked the dead Demonic beast off of the stage.

“Sorry, I forgot that I sealed my Qi crystal before coming here. You can send up the next one.”

Huang Ying turned towards the robed announcer and gave a short apology. He didn't know how they felt about it, but sealing his power to seem like a weakling would mean that he only faced weaklings in the start, allowing him to rack up a higher win count.

“Very well. Are there any other volunteers?”

The robed announcer gave a short nod before turning to the audience. While he was talking, another robed person came out from a corridor at the side and dragged away the dead Demonic beast. The spectators were silent for a short while before a humanoid wolf-man jumped onto the arena.

    “I'll do it.”

As the wolf-man stepped onto the stage, the ground beneath him trembled and buckled a little, clearly this wolf-man used the stone element. He was also at the peak of the 9th heaven like Huang Ying, so he seemed to plan on using his strong defense to resist Huang Ying's attacks.

    “You may begin.”

The robed announcer announced the start of the fight once more, pulling back to the edge of the stage. The wolf-man covered himself in a layer of gray Qi, immediately strengthening his defenses. He did not expect the human in front of him to pull any punches, he could see from his eyes that this human was just as ruthless as they were.

Huang Ying furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at his opponent. He was still not pleased with this level of strength. It seemed like he could only use absolute strength to force out some stronger and more knowledgeable opponents.

With that thought in mind, Huang Ying put all his energy into his feet and shot forward. While he was not adapt at speed, he could still use the explosiveness of fire to generate a quick burst of speed.

The wolf-man barely had time to blink before Huang Ying was in front of him. He quickly crossed his arms in front of his chest to block, but it was already pointless. Huang Ying transferred the energy from his feet into his hand and punched out, black gas seeping out from his fist.

The fist made contact with the chest of the wolf-man and he shot out like an arrow leaving the bow. He left the arena and shot directly into the seating area on the second floor, a deep dent in his chest, he was dead before he even left the stage.

“Sorry, but I prefer to fight people at the Xiantian realm.”

Huang Ying didn't even look at the wolf-man, he had already gotten all his memories and Demon Crystal before he flew off of the stage. He instead turned to the announcer and simply stated what he wanted to fight. If this level of strength was not enough to force out some Xiantian stage Demonic beasts, it might just be better to attack them in the streets.

“...Very well, but we cannot bring out any Xiantian stage opponents on such short notice, you will have to wait for tomorrow.”

The robed announcer stood in stunned silence for a short while before clearing his throat and answering. Since this human could kill a Demonic beast at the peak of the 9th heaven with a single punch, he was clearly strong enough for only Xiantian stage Demonic beasts to stand a chance.

Huang Ying gave a quick nod at his words and left the stage. Since he would have to wait for tomorrow, there was no point in staying in the arena. He left the arena and met up with Xin Yang.
  • Chapter 75: Daughter of the Azure Dragon?

Huang Ying did not have to wait for too long, he got to fight against a Xiantian stage Demonic beast the very next day. He was slightly disappointed that it was only a Demonic beast at the early stages of the Xiantian realm, but he would just have to settle.

The Demonic beast was in the shape of a large tiger, reaching almost four meters in length, and two meters in height. Covered in deep black stripes, the Demonic beast looked incredibly fierce. Sadly, Huang Ying still managed to kill it with a single attack.

He learned a little more about the city from this Demonic beast, but very little about their revered god, so he had no choice but to keep on fighting. Each day he would get to fight one or two Demonic beasts at the Xiantian stage, but they were all only at the early stages, so there was hardly a fight. He learned that there were rarely Demonic beasts above the early Xiantian Stage that took part in the King's Arena, they preferred training in the King's Army.

He knew that his body had already reached the late stages of the Xiantian realm, but he did not expect that his power had already reached such a level. He did not even need to use his bloodlines to kill the Demonic beasts. He only needed to use his Ice or Fire element to kill them, if they proved to be a little troublesome, he just needed to use his black flames.

He of course knew why they would die so quickly when facing his attacks. While his cultivation had only reached the peak of the 9th heaven, the elements he was using were far from normal.

The ice he used was the ice of the White Tiger itself. The flames he used were only the flames of a Vermilion bird, but it was still a descendant of the Phoenix. There was no need to talk about his black flames, which where a mixture of all his bloodlines and the fire element.

Huang Ying kept fighting in the arena of six days, today would be the seventh and also his last. He was determined that if he learned nothing useful on this day, he would just find a different way.

“Greetings, we have your opponent lined up for you already, so you can just head to the stage immediately.”

Once Huang Ying entered the arena, he was immediately greeted by the rat-man who was responsible for signing up contestants. Huang Ying gave a short nod at his words and headed down the corridor that led to the stage.

Once he reached the stage, he jumped onto it and faced his opponent at the center of the stage. He was slightly surprised when he saw his opponent. His opponent was the petite girl he had seen when he first entered the arena, Fang Shan.

“Hello, I look forward to fighting with you. If you don't mind, I would like for this fight to just be a sparring match, a match to allow the both of us to learn a little more about each other.”

Fang Shan gave a smile and a short bow as she proposed the idea by sending her words directly into Huang Ying's mind. She knew that there was only a small chance that she would be able to defeat Huang Ying, so what was the point in starting a pointless death match? She had also only signed up for today's fight to ascertain a matter, there was no need to risk her life for that.

“Very well, I just so happen to have had a similar idea.”

Huang Ying gave a short nod and agreed to her idea. He would be lying if he said that he was not interested in this girl. When they matched eyes the first time, the blood in his body gave of a faint thumping.

One had to know that the blood within his body was part Baku, part White Tiger, part Vermilion Bird blood, and human blood. To make any part of his blood give off a thumping could only mean that the blood within her body was at least at the same rank.

“Excellent, you may begin at any time.”

The robed announcer gave a quick nod as he backed away, officially starting the match. The moment the fight started, Fang Shan surrounded herself in flashing lightning and backed away, pulling open the distance between them. As she backed away, she also summoned two daggers into her hands.

The daggers were curved and the blade was about the size of a normal adults hand. The handle was covered in deep blue scales with a small white jewel decorating the place where he handle and the blade met. Huang Ying had seen this type of weapon before, any Demonic beast that could take human form had a weapon like this.

The weapon was created from a mixture of their blood, element, and a part of their body. Once they evolved to take human form, these weapons would automatically form. From the look of these daggers, the girl seemed to have a lizard type bloodline. These daggers were probably created from her claws.

Fang Shan knew that she was no match for Huang Ying in a frontal confrontation, so her only choice was to use her advantage in speed to force him to show all his cards. She had planned this fight since she first saw Huang Ying and he made her blood tremble. Her father had told her what it meant if she met someone that could make her blood tremble like this, there was no way she would waste this chance.

Little did she know that Huang Ying had no intention of properly fighting her, she wanted to force him to put out all his cards, but wasn't he just the same. When she pulled back, Huang Ying activated part of the White Tiger blood within his veins.

His hair turned white as snow, and his pupils turned into slits. His control over his blood had only gotten finer with time, so there was no longer any need to worry about his body growing hair and getting thicker.

Once he activated his bloodline and his hair turned white, a soul stirring chill pervaded the entire arena. The Demonic beasts watching the fight immediately started trembling, but it was not just from the cold. The bloodline he used was the blood of the White Tiger, the highest level of Demonic beast, every Demonic beast in the world would bow before the blood of the White Tiger. This was suppression at the most basic of levels.

While the Demonic beasts trembled, Fang Shan was also trembling slightly. She could clearly see that Huang Ying wanted the same as her, only that he was far more direct about it. Since it was like this, there was no point in holding back.

With a slight intent of her mind, the blood within her body started burning, activating her bloodline limit. Her white hair immediately turned ocean blue, deep blue scales slowly spreading on her arms and parts of her face. Her eyes turned into a deep amber color.

When Fang Shan activated her bloodline, flashes of lightning started spreading throughout the area, contesting with the chill in the air for supremacy. The suppression that the spectators were facing immediately increased by a notch, almost forcing them to kneel.

Once he saw the blue scales and lightning flashing in the sky, combined with the thumping of his blood, Huang Ying knew the answer to his question, he was also certain that Fang Shan had found the answer to her question.

Huang Ying gave a faint smile and deactivated his bloodline limit, the chill in the air immediately disappearing. Seeing his actions, Fang Shan also deactivated her bloodline limit. Since he could make her blood tremble even after she activated her bloodline limit, combined with his white hair, he could only be one person.

“Seems like we have a bit of chatting to do, once you plan on leaving, you can find me at the exit.”

Fang Shan sent a smile to Huang Ying and left the arena. She had to report this to her father, he had waited for this chance for much longer than she had, so she was certain that he would be overjoyed.

As Fang Shan left the arena, a map appeared in Huang Ying's mind, showing him the path to the mountain where the so called god lived. Huang Ying saw her off with his eyes for a short while before he too left the arena and met up with Xin Yang again. Since they had gotten the information they needed, there was no longer a need to stay here.

“What was that? Do you know her?”

The moment they met up, Xin Yang asked Huang Ying. He had seen the strange process of the fight. Huang Ying was a rather ruthless person when he fought, so there was no way he would take pity on his opponent only because she was a woman. It was more likely that there was some secret that he didn't know about.

“She is a descendant of the Azure Dragon, with a rather pure bloodline at that.”

Huang Ying gave a quick explanation. In this world, there were only five bloodlines that could make his blood thump. These five bloodlines where the blood of the Four Guardian Beasts and the blood of Baku. Since she used lightning and had blue scales, it could only be the Azure Dragon whose blood she had.

“I see, does that mean you know where the exit is now?”

Xin Yang fondled his chin as he rummaged over the information. Since she was a descendant of the Azure Dragon, and the so called god of these Demonic beasts was a descendant of the Azure Dragon, it only made sense that she would know where the exit was. And from listening to her words, it was clear that she had something to talk about.

“Indeed. She gave me a map, so we can leave whenever we want.”

Huang Ying gave a nod as he answered Xin Yang's question.

“Good, but do you mind if we wait for a bit before leaving? I heard that the king himself is apparently going to appear in the arena for a fight tomorrow, maybe we can learn something.”

Xin Yang couldn't help but smile when Huang Ying answered his question. He did not mind being surrounded by Demonic beasts, but being looked at like food for the better part of the day was still exhausting. At the same time he told Huang Ying about what he heard some spectators talking about.

The king was apparently going to fight in the arena tomorrow. One of his generals had challenged him to a duel for the throne. If the general won, he would take the throne, but if he lost, he would lose his life for being a traitor.

“The King himself? Alright, we can just leave afterwards.”

Huang Ying gave a quick nod to the idea. He had to admit that he was rather interested in seeing this King and how he fought. With those thoughts in mind, Huang Ying and Xin Yang returned to the inn where they had rented a room.
  • Chapter 76: The King.

The morning of the next day, Huang Ying and Xin Yang were already sitting in the arena before the sun had risen. Since the king himself was set to fight today, no other fights would take place. Nearly everyone who lived in the city wanted to see this fight, so the seating areas were completely packed. Even the uppermost seating area had been filled up with people. This would normally be against the rules, but the king himself had apparently allowed it.

The arena was completely packed, but it was dead silent, the audience was too scared to even breathe loudly. The reason for the silence were the two people standing in the center of the stage.

The first man was clad in a light red robe. His body was tall and muscular, easily reaching above two meters. His hair was short and spiky, colored a chestnut brown. He had a chiseled face with a slight stubble, deep black eyes that carried a heavy resolution. In his hands he held a long, brown bident.

Opposite of him stood a middle-aged man clad in a golden black robe. His head was shaven and polished, three large scars going from the right to the left side of his head. His face had soft features and his brown eyes had an indifferent gaze. He did not carry a weapon.

“I did not expect that you would challenge me to a duel Hu Dong it is not too late, we can still forget this ever happened.”

The first one to open his mouth was the man clad in the golden black robe, the king. His indifferent eyes pierced into the man in front of him. His voice was not loud, but it spread to every corner of the arena, bringing with it a sense of majesty.

“I am sorry my king, but I am no longer content with serving, I wish to rule.”

The man clad in the light red robe, Hu Dong did not falter under the eyes of the king, standing tall and steadfast. His voice was hoarse and powerful.

“Very well, then so it shall be.”

The king shook his head and spoke in a low voice. When his voice fell, a small brown, round bead floated out from within his body and started floating around him. The bead suddenly grew in size, transforming into a large brown sword. The king grasped the sword and charged at Hu Dong.

Hu Dong did not wait for the King to reach him, both hands grasping the bident he charged forward. As he charged forward, the stone beneath him started moving with him, small pieces breaking off and shooting towards the King. Clearly, this Hu Dong controlled the earth element.

The King did not dodge the stones flying at him, only moving the sword in his hands. When he placed the sword in front of his chest, it started twisting and deforming, taking the shape of a shield and blocking the stones.

Once he had blocked all the stones, the shield once more twisted, turning back into a sword. The King charged towards Hu Dong, small balls of water gathering around him. Once the balls formed, they shot forward, aiming at various parts of Hu Dong's body.

Hu Dong gave a cold snort and covered his body in earthen brown Qi that almost looked like actual earth. The water balls caused the Qi to slightly cave in, but then quickly bounced back and away from the Qi.

With his defenses set up, Hu Dong pushed his bident forward. When the two prongs neared the King, the King had the sword turn back into a shield and dodged backwards. He was clearly not interested in being hit by the tip of the prongs.

Hu Dong kept stabbing at the King with his bident, focusing on both wearing down the King, as well as keeping his distance. He knew that he was not the King's match in a close range fight, so he had to use the distance advantage that his weapon gave him.

The King clearly did not want to partake in Hu Dong's plans. The shield twisted once more, this time turning into a long spear. The spear was slightly longer than the bident, so the King started pushing Hu Dong back using the same tactic Hu Dong just used against him.

The King continued pushing Hu Dong back all the way until the were almost at the edge of the stage. Once they approached the stage, Hu Dong knew that he had to do something. He tightened his grip on the bident and stabbed it forward.

Little did he know what this was what the King was waiting for. When Hu Dong pushed the bident forward, the spear in the King's hands turned soft and twisted around the bident. After it twisted around the bident, it stiffened once more.

The King pulled the spear back, bringing the bident with it. Once the bident left Hu Dong's hands, the spear in the King's hands turned soft again, twisting around the King's hands and forming a pair of gauntlets.

With the gauntlets covering his hands, the King charged at Hu Dong, immediately arriving at a distance where he could use his hands to fight. He first threw a punch at Hu Dong's solar plexus and knocked the wind out of him. The next punch he threw landed on Hu Dong's throat. A swift kick from the King knocked Hu Dong directly onto the ground.

    “You have lost Hu Dong.”

While Hu Dong was still in shock, the King's indifferent voice came from above him. He slightly twisted his body, but the King's foot landed on his throat, preventing him from moving further. Hu Dong could not help but be shocked. He knew that the King was strong, but he had no idea it was to this level, he barely even used his element, only that strange weapon.

“The loser only has one fate.”

once the King's decree fell, he stomped down with his foot, snapping the neck of Hu Dong. Once he was finished, he kicked the now lifeless body of Hu Dong off of the stage and started walking towards the edge.

    “Stop.”

As the King was walking, a soft voice sounded out from behind him, stopping him in his track. Turning around, he saw a youth clad in a sky blue robe, his pitch black hair hanging down his back like a waterfall.

“Who do you think you are to tell the king to stop?”

The King spoke with a cold voice as he stared at Huang Ying. The only reason he hadn't immediately killed Huang Ying was because he felt an unsettling feeling from his body. Especially when he looked at his eyes, he felt like he was being stared at by a primordial beast.

“No special reason, I just figured I would take this chance to challenge you. Being king does sound rather nice.”

Huang Ying had a faint smile as he responded, the Qi within his body slowly leaking out and integrating with the Natural Energy in the air around him. Did he really challenge the King because he wanted to become king? The answer was obviously no.

The only reason he challenged the king was because he had a great interest in the weapon the King used. The weapon had the same aura as the King himself, so it was clearly a weapon that he created when he learned to take human form. But Huang Ying had never seen such a versatile weapon. It could fit any situation and any of his needs. If he could get his hands on how to make a weapon like that, it would be of great help to him.

“You wish to fight this king? If even trash like you dares to challenge me, it seems like I will have to remind this city exactly why I am the king.”

The voice of the King turned even colder as he saw the playful manner in which Huang Ying acted. Ever since he had become king, who had not looked at him with reverence and respect?
  • Chapter 77: Monarch of flames.

“I'll take that as you agreeing to this fight.”

Huang Ying couldn't help but grin at the King's words. The King might be a Demonic beast at the late stages of the Xiantian realm, but Huang Ying's body had already reached the same level. Coupled with his elemental superiority and being able to use the devouring element to slowly weaken him, he was more than just confident.

The King did not want to waste any more time on a weakling like Huang Ying, so he immediately charged forward, both fists punching out. Huang Ying raised both arms, hitting the King on the wrists and jumping backwards slightly. When he made contact with the King, he also injected a small amount of Devouring element into the King's body.

Huang Ying did this in a single smooth movement, but to the King and the spectators it looked like Huang Ying had been caught off guard and barely managed to block, being forced backwards.

This was what Huang Ying wanted, to feign weakness. He could indeed fight a protracted fight, slowly weakening the King. But there was no telling what might happen if he did that, who knew just what sort of tricks the King had.

Instead, he chose to appear weaker, causing the King to let down his guard. If everything went the way Huang Ying wanted, he could finish the King with a single attack. Injecting the Devouring element while he was fighting was just as a type of insurance.

While Huang Ying was jumping back, the King looked at him with a suspecting gaze. If this was all the power Huang Ying had, the King had no idea why he would enter the arena. Could it be that he was just too arrogant for his own good?

The King quickly tossed these thoughts to the back of his head, he knew better than to be distracted during a fight, and charged forward once more. While he charged forward, he summoned several small balls of water that started floating around him.

Once he moved closer to Huang Ying, he punched out once more, but this time, one of the balls of water followed after his fists. Once the ball of water moved closer, it shrank, turning almost as small as a pebble. Huang Ying once more parried the King's punch, but he simply ignored the small ball of water. He could barely feel any energy in that ball, it was also small enough that it was almost negligible.

But as he jumped back once more, he suddenly felt a sense of crisis coming from his right. Without spending any time thinking, Huang Ying dodged to the left. As he dodged to the left, that tiny ball of water shot past him, grazing his cheek and cutting open a gash that was almost deep enough to enter his mouth.

Huang Ying turned his head in shock to look at the tiny ball of water, but the King would obviously not give him this time, charging directly at him. The gauntlets turned into a thin sword that the King swung at Huang Ying at high speed.

With each swing of the sword, a ball of water would leave the King's side and shoot at Huang Ying, all the while shrinking. Whenever he felt like he had dodged one of the attacks, he would suddenly find himself with a wound where he thought he had dodged.

While he was dodging, he kept sending out small amounts of Devouring element, injecting it into the King whenever they came into contact. Thanks to his strong physique, he was also regenerating the wounds quickly, so fighting was no problem.

Instead, he kept thinking about the small balls of water, only having half his attention in the fight. All this fell into the King's eyes, and he couldn't help but get angry. Not only did this weakling dare challenge him, but he even focused on other things all the while?

At the same time, the King was shocked that this person he assumed to be a weakling was still able to fight for so long. Even his wounds were healing at a speed visible to the eyes. Not even the King could heal that fast.

    “So that's how it is!”

Suddenly, as another ball of water shot past Huang Ying's face, his eyes suddenly lit up as he couldn't help but shout out and curl his lips into a smile. How could the tiny balls of water hurt him despite being so small and almost devoid of Qi? It was simply because they were refined to an almost insane level.

Once the Qi within them was refined and compressed to a pure enough grade, while the energy within would seem like a small amount, it would hold enough power to destroy almost everything. The reason he was cut even after dodging was because the energy was pure enough to affect everything around it.

It was such a simple thing, yet it had never struck Huang Ying to use his powers like that. At the same time, he forgot that he more often than not fought against large groups of enemies, where large attacks were most useful. Where would he get the idea of compressing and refining his energy before he attacked?

The King felt a strong sense of unease welling up in his body when he saw Huang Ying's lips curl into a smile. He was just about to pull back when Huang Ying's eyes landed on him. Seeing those eyes, he felt like he had fallen into a pit of ice.

When Huang Ying's gaze landed on the King, Huang Ying immediately burned the blood of Little Flame. Little Flame had been reborn after swallowing a bit of Baku and White Tiger blood, so burning his blood would grant Huang Ying a more comprehensive power boost. The White Tiger blood boosted his strength and ice control, while the blood of Baku boosted his devouring ability and strength. The blood of Little Flame on the other hand would boost all of his aspects.

When Huang Ying burned the blood of Little Flame, black flames immediately gushed out from within his body, gathering around him. Gauntlets made out of black flames, two pitch black wings on his back, and a crown made out of scarlet flames, Huang Ying looked like a monarch of flame gracing the earth with his presence.

The warning bells went of in the head of the King, but just as he wanted to pull back even further, Huang Ying raised his arm. The raised arm was like the blade of the executioners blade. When Huang Ying raised his arm, black flames shot towards the sky before gathering around his arm, quickly gathering together and shrinking.

When Huang Ying slowly lowered his arm, the black flames were already so compressed that they were almost invisible. They were almost invisible, but their effect was still there. Once he lowered his arm, a black line appeared on the stage in front of him, going from the area right ahead of him all the way to the end of the stage.

The same black line appeared on the body of the King, dividing his body into two even parts. Black flames gushed out from the line that was dividing the body of the King, devouring his entire body. Once the flames disappeared, so too did the body of the king.

Huang Ying stood alone on the stage, a smile creeping up on his face as he rummaged through the memories of the King. He was slightly off in his earlier assumption. The strange weapon that the King used was not the weapon he created when he took on human form. It was a weapon he forged using the same concept, as well as a special manual he found as he was exploring this floor of the ruins.

After quickly memorizing the information on how to forge the weapon, Huang Ying turned around and signaled Xin Yang that it was time to leave. He had learned how to create that weapon, so there was no longer any need to stay here, they could just meet up with Fang Shan and learn how to leave this floor.

As Huang Ying was leaving, no one dared to stop him or question what he was intending to do with the throne. They just saw him cleave their King in half with just a wave of his hand, wouldn't stopping him be the same as suicide.
  • Chapter 79: To the top of the mountain.

“Are we going to leave immediately?”

As they were walking, Xin Yang was the first one to talk. As he talked, he couldn't help but remember the fight he had just seen. The King had been at the late stage of the Xiantian Builder stage, but the fight was decided with a single move. The scene of the black flames rushing towards the skies had branded itself deeply into Xin Yang's mind.

“Not yet, since I just became their king, it would be a waste if I didn't empty my treasury wouldn't it.”

Huang Ying's mouth curled into a smirk as he was walking. While none of the items in the treasury were exceptionally valuable, just the sheer amount of items made the trip worth it.

The castle was almost right next to the arena, so they didn't have to walk for very long before they stood outside the entrance to the castle. The entrance was just a large open door, but there were four humanoid guards clad in full armor guarding the entrance, two on each side of the door.

“Halt! No one is allowed entrance until the King returns!”

One of the guards stepped forward and used the spear in his hand to block the entrance to the castle. If the King found out that they had allowed someone unknown to enter the castle while he was away, there was no telling what he would do in his rage.

“I am the new king, step down.”

Huang Ying simply ignored the guard and continued walking towards the entrance. Since these guards dared stop him, it was obvious that the people at the arena did not have any way of sending information to the castle, meaning that the guards had yet to hear the news.

“We will need to see proof, if you can not bring out proof, I have to ask you to leave.”

The guard did not lower his spear after hearing Huang Ying's words. He had already seen three kings die and be replaced, so he was not too shocked to hear that there might be a new king. But he was still a guardian of the castle, so he would need to see proof before allowing this person to enter.

Seeing the guard continue to block the entrance, Huang Ying no longer bothered with him. Once he got closer, four small orbs of ice flew out from his hand and blasted the four guards in the chest, sending them flying to the side.

The orbs of ice hit them hard enough to send them flying, but Huang Ying still had a modicum of mercy, sparing their lives. He would kill those he did not like, but that did not mean that he was a blood crazed beast. These guards were just doing their jobs by blocking him, they had not offended him, so there was no need to kill them.

After the four guards were blasted away, they did not dare stand up and attempt to block the path of Huang Ying again. How could they not see that this person was not someone they could afford to offend. He had spared them this time, but what if they blocked him again?

Huang Ying and Xin Yang strode past the guards and entered the castle. Since Huang Ying had the memories of the previous king, there was no need to search every room. He just walked directly to the treasury and emptied everything, storing it into his interspatial ring.

The treasury was mostly filled with different herbs, ores, and pieces of Demonic beasts that had been found on this floor, but it also contained some items that other cultivators had brought with them before they died on this floor.

At the moment, none of these items were very useful to Huang Ying, but he was not willing to leave them behind just because of that. Some of the herbs would be useful to feed to Little Flame if he ever got severely wounded, while some of the ores could be used to repair his weapon once he managed to forge it.

There were a few Spiritual Stones mixed in with the items as well, so Huang Ying sorted them out so that he could take them out whenever he needed them. He had killed and robbed many people, but most of these people were just too low leveled, they didn't even have any Spiritual Stones. In other words, he was broke.

“Let's go, there is nothing else here for us.”

With those words, Huang Ying turned around and left the castle. Xin Yang would obviously not have any complaints, just thinking about being one step closer to leaving these ruins filled him with joy.

Once they left the castle, they did not stop at any other places, directly leaving the city. The map Fang Shan had given him showed that the mountain they were looking for was not far from the city.

Once they got closer and actually saw the mountain, Huang Ying realized that the map was nearly useless. The mountain shoot straight into the clouds, looking like a rising dragon. The clouds that surrounded it's peak were flashing with brilliant bolts of lightning. Even if Huang Ying didn't have the map, it wouldn't take much thought to realize that this was where they had to go.

Climbing the mountain ended up being easier than Huang Ying thought, but he also quickly realized why. The Demonic beasts and flashes of lightning that occasionally shot down all avoided the are where Huang Ying and Xin Yang were walking, so it was obvious that someone was diverting everything away from them.

Once they climbed closer to the top, the blood within Huang Ying's body couldn't help but thump slowly, growing in intensity as they approached the peak. Once they stood outside a large cave, the thumping of his blood had almost turned into fierce beat.

Huang Ying glanced over at Xin Yang. Once he saw that Xin Yang was not feeling any discomfort from the strong bloodline oppression, he raised his foot and stepped into the cave.
  • Chapter 80: Lightning Kirin.

When Huang Ying and Xin Yang stepped into the cave, the first thing they noticed was the strong lightning energy lingering in the air. All the hairs on their body started standing on edge the moment they stepped into the cave. Even the walls of the cave were lined with long scorch marks, no doubt left behind by lightning bolts.

Since the inside of the cave was shrouded in darkness when they stood outside, they did not manage to see just how deep the cave was. But once they stepped inside and started walking, they found that the cave was surprisingly small, only requiring them to walk for around a minute before their goal was in sight.

Not far ahead of them was Fang Shan. She was currently crouching on the ground next to a large beast, her hands gently combing the beasts long golden hair. When Huang Ying saw this beast, the blood in his body stopped beating, it instead started surging, releasing an almost tyrannical oppressive feeling.

The beast that was lying on the ground in front of them seemed like a mixture of a dragon and a horse. It had a long and streamlined body covered in deep blue scales, reaching almost 7 meters in length, its body ending in a long and graceful tail with a tip covered in golden fur. It had four thick and strong limbs, each ending in three large claws.

It had the head of a ferocious dragon, there were two horns on each side of it's head, pointing backwards, and one large golden horn located right between it's brows that pointed forward. Small golden spikes ran down it's entire back. Huang Ying had some memories about a beast like this, a mix between a dragon and a horse, a Kirin.

The Kirin had it's face turned towards them, but it's tired eyes were completely white, so it was obviously blind. It probably used either the surrounding Qi or the response it got from Huang Ying's bloodline to determine where they were.

The reason his blood stopped beating and started surging was because it had initially sensed the blood of the Azure Dragon, an equal. But what greeted it was just a descendant of the Azure Dragon, the proud blood of the Baku or the White Tiger would never accept someone like that as an equal.

“Father, he is the one I was talking about.”

While Huang Ying and Xin Yang were studying the Kirin, Fang Shan pointed at Huang Ying and spoke up. She knew that despite her father being blind, he could still use the surrounding Qi to determine the general silhouette of the things around him.

“You are not White Tiger, nor one of his descendants are you? They were not the ones who sent you here.”

The Kirin's voice rang out in the cave, it's deep and rumbling voice causing the cave walls to vibrate. It's voice contained a slight sense of relief as it spoke. Once it finished speaking, Huang Ying had already stepped forward and sat down in front of the Kirin.

“No, I do indeed not belong to the family of the White Tiger. I am the one who holds the blood of Baku. I only came here because I figured it would help me get stronger faster.”

There was no point in hiding anything from this Kirin. Even when he used his Energy Vision, it was impossible for Huang Ying to see just how strong this Kirin was, so it was clearly out of his league. It could maybe even kill him with just a swing of it's leg. Hiding something from someone that strong was akin to courting death.

“Ahh, so you are the reincarnation of Baku, how excellent. I have a favor I need to ask of you.”

The voice of the Kirin rang out again, reverberating within the entire cave. Huang Ying was slightly taken aback when he heard it's words. A favor? What could Huang Ying possibly help it with?

“I want you to take Fang Shan with you and leave these ruins. I do not want her to suffer here in solitude just because of the delusions of the Four Guardian Beasts and Three Great Gods.”

The Kirin slightly moved it's eyes, it's gaze falling on Fang Shan who was still crouching next to it, stroking the golden fur on it's head.

“You probably have many questions about my words, but I cannot speak of them. If I try to say anything more about them, my life will be snuffed out and Fang Shan forced to take up my role as seal.”

The Kirin spoke out just as Huang Ying wanted to ask it several question. This was not the first time he had heard about the Four Guardian Beasts in these ruins. While he was talking with the memories of the previous incarnations of Baku, they talked about the charade of the Four Guardian Beasts. Could this Kirin be talking about the same thing?

“Fang Shan is a portion of my power that was divided from my body in case of my untimely death. If I were to die, she would be used to replace me as the seal on these ruins. When she first told me about you, I thought you might be someone sent by the White Tiger to see on how the seal was doing.”

The Kirin moved it's eyes away from Fang Shan and back to Huang Ying, it's eyes switching from gentle when he spoke about Fang Shan, to rage when he spoke about the White Tiger.

“But you no longer think that?”

From it's words, Huang Ying managed to pick up that it seemed to no longer think that the Kirin no longer associated him with the White Tiger, despite the White Tiger blood flowing in his veins.

“Baku already gave up on those delusions during the great war all those years ago. He would never partake in something like this.”

The Kirin seemed supremely confident as it spoke about Baku, it's voice even contained a tinge of awe and respect.

“I do not mind bringing her with me, but how do I leave these ruins?”

Huang Ying did not need to think about it for too long. One reason was that the Kirin could kill him easily if he disagreed. Another reason was that he was rather interested in the true story behind the Four Guardian Beasts, if he traveled together with Fang Shan, he might learn more.

“To head to the next and also final floor of these ruins, you will need to kill me to tear a small hole in the seal. Normally, once I die, the energy of the seal would be passed on to Fang Shan, but if you allow me to take a drop of White Tiger blood from you, I can move the energy of the seal over to that drop of blood instead. Using the small moment between me dying and the energy of the seal being moved over, you can move on to the next floor.”

“I of course won't make you do this for nothing, I will allow you to use the Devouring Element to devour the Azure Dragon bloodline within me, but my Demon Crystal must go to Fang Shan. You must also swear a Soul Oath that you will bring her out of these ruins and never attack her.”

Even though the Kirin trusted in the blood of Baku, Fang Shan could be considered his only daughter, how could he not be overly cautious and get some extra reassurance?

“Very well, but you must also swear a Soul Oath that you are not deceiving me, and she must swear a Soul Oath that she will not attack me.”

Huang Ying fondled his chin for a short moment before putting forth his own conditions. Since the Kirin wanted him to swear a Soul Oath, Huang Ying would obviously make the Kirin do the same. They quickly agreed on the contents of the Soul Oath and all four of them swore a Soul Oath.
  • Chapter 81: Traitor's mausoleum.

Once they swore the Soul Oath, there was no reason to hesitate. Huang Ying pricked his finger and pushed the White Tiger blood within his body towards the wound, causing a single drop of red blood, mixed with white filaments, to come out.

Once the blood left his finger, the Kirin summoned a small ball of lightning, quickly surrounding the drop of blood and drawing it towards him. Once the blood was floating in front of the Kirin, Xin Yang and Fang Shan both stepped to one side, preparing for when the passage to the next floor would open up.

The Kirin and Fang Shan were both looking at each other, their eyes wet with emotion. But neither of them said anything. They had both known that this day would likely come at some point, so they had mentally prepared themselves. A silent goodbye was all they needed.

The Kirin slowly stood up, blue lightning crackling around it's body as an awe inspiring power gushed out off it's body and into the cave. Huang Ying felt like he was choking just from standing in front of the Kirin as it released it's energy.

The Kirin's eyes focused on the drop of blood floating in front of it as all the power it released started gathering into that drop of blood. While all it's energy was gathering around that drop of blood, two orbs of light floated out from within it's body.

Inside one of the orbs was a sphere of blood, twice the size of Huang Ying's head. This sphere was obviously the Azure Dragon blood within the Kirin. Inside the other sphere was a completely round crystal, gold and blue colors swirling within it. The crystal was around the size of Huang Ying's head, this was clearly the Kirin's Demon Crystal.

The Kirin cast one last look at Fang Shan before it returned it's eyes to the drop of blood floating in front of it. Silently closing it's eyes, the two orbs flew away from it's body, the Demon Crystal merging into Fang Shan's body, and the sphere of blood merging with Huang Ying.

Huang Ying knew that now was not the time to devour this blood, so instead of devouring it, he surrounded the blood with his Qi and stored it next to the Qi Crystal in his dantian.

The Demon Crystal was the crystallization of a Demonic beasts power, so once it lost it's Demon Crystal, the energy radiating from the Kirin quickly started dropping. Before all the energy vanished, the Kirin discharged the remaining energy within it's body, it's entire form slowly disintegrating.

As the Kirin was disintegrating, a black crack suddenly appeared in the space next to Fang Shan and Xin Yang. While the crack appeared, a small blood colored seal floated out from within the disintegrating body of the Kirin.

The seal looked like a large mass of snakes coiling around each other, gnawing at each others tails and heads, looking exceedingly sinister. The seal shot out, following the aura of the Azure Dragon towards Fang Shan. Before the seal managed to reach Fang Shan, the Azure Dragon shifted all it's aura into the drop of White Tiger blood that was floating in front of it.

The seal immediately made a turn in the air, shooting back and towards that drop of blood. Once the seal merged with the drop of blood, the black crack next to Fang Shan and Xin Yang started fading.

Seeing their exit fading, Xin Yang, Huang Ying and Fang Shan quickly made their way into the crack and out off the cave. Huang Ying cast one last glance backwards, but the body of the Kirin had already completed disintegrated at this time.

After stepping into the crack, instead of finding themselves floating in empty space as they expected, they found themselves standing on a stone floor inside a large hall.

    “Are you okay?”

Huang Ying turned his head and asked Fang Shan. Huang Ying had never had people he could call parents, even the person that raised him, Grandpa Chen, wasn't a person Huang Ying could consider family.

Huang Ying did not know what it felt like to lose a family member, when he first ended up killing everyone in the town where he lived he ended up repressing the memories. When he finally regained those memories, he had already become so numb and accustomed to killing that it hardly affected him. Even when he learned that his Grandpa Chen had died did he rarely react.

But Huang Ying was not some emotionless monster, he knew when something would hurt. So while he himself did not know what it felt like to lose a family member, he was certain that Fang Shan was in great pain right now.

Facing this Fang Shan, Huang Ying was filled with a strange protective feeling, wanting to shield her from pain. Once he thought over this feeling a bit more, he realized that he had felt like this when he was facing Jing He as well. He could not put his finger on why he wanted to protect them, but since he wanted to do it, he was obviously going to do it with all his might.

“No. But we prepared for this day long ago, so I can still manage for now.”

Fang Shan was a very straightforward person, since she was not feeling well, she would say it honestly. But she and her father had prepared for this in advance, and this was also not the place or time to cry, so she would bear it for now. Once she was out of the ruins and had reached a safe place, then she could cry.

Huang Ying nodded his head, since she said she could manage for now, there was no need to fuss over it right now, figuring out their current situation would be better. He turned his head and started to examine the hall around them.

The hall was made out of grey stone, wide enough for at least 20 people to stand shoulder to shoulder. Raising his head, Huang Ying could see that there was no ceiling, only an empty black void. The path behind them was the same as the ceiling, an empty black void, only the path forward seemed to lead somewhere.

The path ahead of them was very short, they only had to walk for a few minutes until they reached the end of the path. At the end of the path stood a large throne surrounded by seven statues.

On the throne sat a tall and muscly middle-aged man clad in a majestic golden robe. His skin was tanned and rough, scars covering a large half of his face. Just by sitting there he released a heavy sense of power, but there were no signs of life coming from his body.

Just as Huang Ying was about to examine the nine statues, the middle-aged man opened his eyes, a rugged mocking voice ringing out inside the hall.

“So many years since my death, yet you still come to check up on me. Tell me, do you treat all 'traitors' this well?”
  • Chapter 82: Seven Dictators.

The man's voice was dripping with sarcasm as he spoke the word traitor. He seemed like he was just about to say something else when his vision fell on Huang Ying and the others, his voice suddenly getting caught in his throat.

“You aren't one of them. How did you get here?”

The middle-aged man narrowed his eyes as he looked at them, confusion apparent in his eyes. Once his words sounded out, he seemed to remember something as he suddenly stood up and moved forward.

Huang Ying and the others didn't even have the time to think before they felt a powerful hand land on their head. Once the hand landed on their heads, a strange energy invaded their bodies, quickly scanning everything within their body. Huang Ying even felt that the energy was scanning through their memories as it swept through their bodies.

“Hoh? A descendant of that little horsey and the reincarnation of that black snake, and neither of you were picked up by any of those three bastards, seems like I have great luck.”

After the middle-aged man spoke, the strange energy quickly left the bodies of Huang Ying and the others, returning to the middle-aged man. When the middle-aged man looked at them, his lips suffused into a smile, like he was looking at a great treasure.

“No need to say anything, I can't exist like this for long, so let me stand for the talking. I will say this first, I am not going to force you to do anything, I am only going to tell you about this world. Whatever you choose to do after that is your own choice.”

Seeing that Huang Ying wanted to ask something, the middle-aged man waved his hand, cutting of Huang Ying before he managed to say anything. Seeing this, Huang Ying could only obediently shut his mouth and listen.

“Let's start by talking a bit about how this universe was born. At first there was only Chaos. Chaos gave birth to Yin and Yang, then Time and Space were born. Yin and Yang absorbed all of Chaos to give birth to Water, Fire, Lightning, Earth, and Metal. These nine elements, Yin, Yang, Time, Space, Ice, Fire, Lightning, Earth, and Metal, then slowly created the universe and everything within it.”

“Because everything was created by them, everything in this universe contains traces of these nine elements. Some have stronger traces or mixed traces, giving birth to different kinds of powers. Wind for example is a lower form of lightning.”

When the middle-aged man spoke up to here, he pointed at Xin Yang, explaining how his Wind Element was born from the Lightning Element.

“These nine elements exist everywhere, but they don't interfere in anything, or rather, they can't. That is how it was supposed to be at least. This planet we live on is different. This planet was created shortly after the birth of the universe, giving birth to a slight mutation.”

“Instead of the nine elements simply existing everywhere, the nine elements on this planet gave birth to personalities, which in turn gave birth to bodies. Of course, these nine elements that gave birth to personalities are mere traces of the actual primordial elements that created this universe, merely containing a trace of their power.”

“But that trace of power is still enough to rule over this planet like dictators. They think of themselves as the personifications of the nine elements, and that this gives them the right to rule over this world and decide everything.”

The middle-aged man ground his teeth as he spoke, hatred apparent within his voice. From what he said, Huang Ying slowly started to understand what both the Kirin as well as the memories of the previous incarnations of Baku were talking about.

“The humans of this planet are not even allowed to leave this planet to explore the universe, trapped on this planet to forever follow their words. Anyone who goes against their word or does something that they don't like is murdered. We humans are nothing but ants to them, ants they direct in a debauched play where they indulge in their delusions of grandeur.”

“You have heard about them before. Yin became the Great God of Death. Yang became the Great God of Life. Time became the Great God of Reincarnation. Ice became the White Tiger, Lightning Became the Azure Dragon, Earth became the Black Turtle, Fire became the Phoenix. These seven elements are the ones who rule this planet like dictators.”

“The last two elements, Metal and Space, did not linger on this planet. Once they gave birth to bodies, they left this planet to explore the universe, even I have never seen what type of bodies they gave birth to.”

While the middle-aged man spoke, he pointed to the seven statues surrounding his throne, stopping on two open spots. The Metal and Space element clearly did not have an interest in ruling this world like dictators.

“I was never satisfied with the people of this planet being under the complete control of these seven elements. They even gave themselves these grandiose names. Four Guardian Beasts, Three Great Gods? How arrogant. I once had a great stroke of luck and met a traveler, someone who came from another planet and visited this one.”

“His name was Huang Jie, thanks to his help, I managed to leave this planet with a group of friends. After leaving the planet, we all went our separate ways, trying to find ways to gain enough strength to free our home planet from the grip of these seven dictators.”

Speaking up to here, the middle-aged man couldn't help but sigh as he was reminiscing. How grandiose weren't they back then, touring the entire universe, gathering allies and exploring strange planets, all so that they could free their own home.

“Once we felt that we had grown strong enough, we gathered together and brought all the friends we had made in our travels and attacked this planet, hoping to kill the seven dictators.”

“Sadly, we overestimated our own power. While the seven dictators only held trace amounts of the power belonging to the true nine elements, it was still enough to defeat us. We managed to wound and weaken the Four Guardian Beasts, forcing them to hide away. But once the Three Great Gods entered the fray, we were all beaten and killed.”

“They labeled us as traitors and sealed away our corpses, placing so many seals on our tombs that not even the trace amounts of Will we had left behind could leave the tomb.”

The middle-aged man gestured with his hand to the empty tomb around him. When he waved his hand, the seven statues around the throne lit up with golden inscriptions. The inscriptions shot out from the statues and coiled around the middle-aged man like shackles.

“Now you know the truth about this planet and it's so called gods. What you do with this knowledge is up to you, all I ever wanted was for the people of this planet to have the right to make their own choices.”

The middle-aged man shook his head and spoke with a sigh. All he wanted was for the freedom to do what he wanted, and for the people of this planet to have that very same freedom. Sadly, he did not manage to kill those seven dictators and free this planet. All he could do now was let others know the truth and hope that they would someday manage to complete what he could not.

“Senior. You mentioned that all nine of the elements on this planet gave birth to bodies, but you never mentioned which element Baku was born from.”

When the middle-aged man finally finished talking, Huang Ying could not help but ask. The middle-aged man had mentioned all nine elements, but he had never mentioned anything about Baku.

He mentioned that he had never seen the bodies that the Metal and Space element had created, but Baku did not seem to belong to those two elements. Baku was also capable of killing the Four Guardian Beasts and the Three Great Gods, so Huang Ying did not think that the element Baku belonged to would be on the same level as the element that they belonged to.

“That is because I don't know. Baku was not born from any of the nine elements that existed as the universe was created. Not even Huang Jie managed to find out which element Baku was born from.”

In response to Huang Ying's question, the middle-aged man's eyes lit up as he answered. While he was still alive, Huang Jie had told him that Baku was not born from any of the elements that was present during the creation of the universe, but not even he managed to find out which element Baku belonged to.

  • Chapter 83: Fusing the bloodlines.

“You can absorb the blood that you got from that little horsey here, absorbing that blood should push you into the Xiantian Realm, absorbing it here is safest.”

The middle-aged man waved his hand, a small beam of light shooting into Huang Ying's dantian, dragging out the blood of the Azure Dragon that he had stored away. The blood floated up in front of Huang Ying, hovering in front of his body while the middle-aged man looked on in interest.

While it was true that this was the safest place to absorb the blood, there was another reason he was making Huang Ying break through to the Xiantian Realm here. His remnant Will had been imprisoned in this tomb ever since they lost that war countless years ago, but he still had his ways of getting information from the outside world.

From the information he had gotten, there had never been a Baku that had devoured and absorbed the blood of the Four Guardian Beasts or the Three Great Gods. This meant that Huang Ying was likely the first person that had the blood of several of the Four Guardian Beasts. If this blood mixed together into a single whole, what sort of monstrosity would be born?”

“Absorb this while you are absorbing the blood of the Azure Dragon, it will guide your other bloodlines and allow them to fuse into a single bloodline.”

The middle-aged man stretched out his hand, the Qi within his body surging and seething, gathering in his index finger. After the Qi gathered in his finger and condensed, a single rainbow colored drop of blood appeared at the tip of his finger. With a flick of his wrist, the blood flew forward and floated next to the blood of the Azure Dragon.

“What is this? Do I really need this?”

Huang Ying looked at that single drop of blood with suspicion. He did not sense any hostility from the middle-aged man in front of him, but absorbing something he did not know what was, how could he know that it was safe?

“It seems like you are a bit naive.”

The middle-aged man chuckled at Huang Ying's words and waved his hand once more. When the middle-aged man waved his hand, Huang Ying's entire body stiffened, a strong pressure pushing down on his throat and chest, completely stopping him from breathing.

“If I wanted to kill you, it would be as easy as waving my hand, why would I bother with such a worthless scheme?”

While Huang Ying was choking, the man chuckled and waved his hand, the pressure immediately disappearing. Huang Ying couldn't help but look at the middle-aged man with some trepidation.

The middle-aged man was indeed correct, there was no point in him using such a scheme on Huang Ying, a simple wave of his hand was enough to remove Huang Ying from the face of this earth. At the same time, Huang Ying also understood the underlying meaning in the middle-aged man's words. You will absorb this drop of blood or I will kill you.

“Seems like I have no choice then.”

After a short moment of silence, Huang Ying couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh as he muttered. He did not want to die now, so all he could do was hope that there truly wasn't anything dangerous about that drop of blood.

Since he had made up his mind, there was no longer any point in hesitating. He sat down, crossed his legs and reached out with his hand, black light gathering within his palm. When the black light made contact with the sphere of blood and the drop of blood, both were devoured, quickly coursing throughout Huang Ying's body.

While the blood was coursing through his body, a large surge of Qi started sweeping through his body, rushing into the Qi crystal in his dantian. When the Qi entered his Qi crystal, the Qi crystal immediately started cracking, small bits and pieces falling off.

If it were a normal time, Huang Ying would be worried about his Qi crystal shattering, but to enter the Xiantian Builder stage, one would first have to shatter their Qi crystal and use the pieces to build a World Core.

While the non-human bloodlines in his body were congregating together, Huang Ying had completely shattered his Qi crystal. Besides the pieces of the Qi crystal floating around in his dantian, the only other thing visible was four small glowing orbs of Qi.

One of the orbs was completely black, one was a pure white, one was a fiery red, and the last one was a brilliant blue. These four orbs were the four different elements of Qi that Huang Ying had.

The red, white, and black ones were his Devouring, Ice, and Fire Elements that he had gotten earlier, while the blue one was the element he gained from devouring the blood of the Azure Dragon. The Lightning Element.

Huang Ying used his mind to slowly gather up the pieces of his Qi crystal that were floating around, gathering them around those four glowing orbs. The pieces of the Qi crystal had lost all of their luster, turning a dull black.

When the pieces started gathering together, once they came in contact with each other they would start melting, each piece fusing with each other, turning from crystal into rock. After spending some time fusing together different pieces, a black, fist sized rock had appeared in his dantian, the four glowing orbs of Qi surrounding it like suns.

This rock was his World Core. In the future, he would have to nurture this World Core, turning it into a true planet to continue his cultivation. Once the World Core had been nurtured into a true planet, the next step was to create life on the planet. Once he managed to create life on the planet, he would have reached the next realm in cultivation.

While more and more pieces of his Qi crystal were approaching the World Core, the bloodlines within his body were also starting to fuse together. Huang Ying turned his attention onto the fusing bloodlines, keeping an especially close eye on that drop of blood that the middle-aged man had made him absorb.

When he saw that the rainbow colored drop of blood was only surrounding the various bloodlines, slowly guiding them as they were fusing, he breathed a sigh of relief. Just as Huang Ying breathed a sigh of relief, his Baku blood started fusing with his White Tiger blood, and an anomaly appeared.

When the two bloodlines started fusing, a terrifying aura spread from the place where the two different bloodlines were fusing. While the aura was spreading within his body, a loud roar sounded out within his mind.

The roar caused every bone within his body to vibrate and his bloodlines to tremble, even his Baku blood was trembling, like it was prostrating in awe. After the roar rang out, a gravely and hoarse voice that sounded like it came from the ancient past rang out in his mind.

“My child who feasts on the blood of the Primordial Elements, once more you have appeared in this universe. And once more I will attempt to give you my power, to allow you to return balance to all and reign supreme.”
  • Chapter 84: Cycle of creation and destruction.

“Your power? What is your power? Who are you?”

As the voice rang out, while Huang Ying was shocked and even slightly trembling in fear, he also felt a strange sense of comfort from the voice. His entire body eased up, all tension escaping from him. Listening to the voice was like listening to the voice of a long lost friend.

“I am all that once was, and all that will ever be. My power is the power to do whatever you want, to never have to hide away from anyone, to never have anyone be taken away from you while all you can do is watch.”

While the voice sounded out within Huang Ying's mind, it also brought with it the memories of him being forced to flee into The Wilderness, the memories of the moment Jing He was taken away and all he could do was watch as he writhed in the dirt. It seemed like whoever the owner of the voice was had rummaged through his memories before talking to him.

    “What is the price?”

Huang Ying did not believe that there was such a nice thing as a free lunch. To get power, one would always have to pay a price, the stronger the power, the heavier the price.

“Your peace. If you accept my power, until the day you manage to completely restore my power, you will never have peace, the universe will not allow it. Strife will find you time and time again, even if you do nothing. But in return, I will give you a power that will let you reign supreme.”

The voice rang out again, causing Huang Ying to descend into a short silence as he was weighing his options. Whenever the voice rang out, he could feel a terrifying power course through his body, this could only mean that the owner of the voice is far stronger than him.

Since the owner of the voice was far stronger than him, while it was giving him the option of accepting it's power, what it would do if he rejected was uncertain. Since it was like this, Huang Ying had no choice but to realize that he would have to accept this power. Besides, power to do whatever he wanted was exactly what he was looking for.

“Why must I complete your power?”

Despite realizing that he would have to accept, Huang Ying still wanted to at least get a bit more information before accepting.

“My brother has reigned supreme for far too long, slowly draining my power. To complete my power, you must either feast on the blood of the nine Primordial Elements, or feast on the blood of my brother. Do you accept?”

The voice rang out again, as it mentioned the nine Primordial Elements, the memory of him meeting the White Tiger flashed past his eyes. Clearly, when it meant that he had to feast on the Primordial Elements, it meant the actual versions of them, or at least the most pure versions of them.

While the White Tiger only had a small trace of the Primordial Elements power, it was still power from the Primordial Elements. Since it only showed the White Tiger, he could also guess that he would have to devour the actual ones, not just those that held some of their blood. So the Kirin and the Vermilion Bird would not be enough, he would have to devour the Azure Dragon and the Phoenix for it to be enough.

    “I accept.”

After a short silence, Huang Ying nodded his head and responded. He would have to accept no matter what, lest the owner of that voice decided to kill him if he rejected. He would have to hunt down the Four Guardian Beasts, the Three Great Gods, and the two remaining elements that left this planet, maybe even hunt down more than just them.

But despite this, Huang Ying found that he was surprisingly excited. He had nothing else, all he wanted was the power to do whatever he wanted. Now that he had a purpose in life, he found that it felt rather enjoyable to have something he need to do.

“Then so be it, let balance return to everything once more, let all creation tremble under your footsteps.”

The voice rang out once more, the Baku blood within his body suddenly trembling fiercely. After trembling for a short while, a strong and ancient force radiated out from it. The drop of blood from the middle-aged man as well as the other non-human bloodlines within his body were swiftly pulled towards and into his Baku blood, even Little Flame was completely devoured by his Baku blood.

After devouring all the other bloodlines within his body, the blood started coursing throughout his entire body, quickly filling every corner of his body with that ancient force. A part of the blood even flowed into his dantian, surrounding his World Core and the black sun that represented his Devouring Element.

While the blood was coursing through his body, Huang Ying's consciousness felt a strong pull, everything quickly turning dark. When Huang Ying regained his vision, he found himself in a pitch black space.

The black space was almost completely empty, only a strange white fog drifting around. As he looked at the white fog, it suddenly split into three, one black orb, one white orb and a small white person with indistinct features.

The small white person waved his hand and the two orbs smashed into each other, exploding into seven pieces. One of the pieces was a small bird with beautiful silver feathers. The bird let loose a screech before vanishing, and the entire black space started slowly expanding.

Another piece was in the shape of a grey wheel. The wheel started spinning, slowly melting into the black space. As the wheel melted into the black space, Huang Ying could feel the time inside the black space slowly speeding up.

The last four pieces were in the shape of animals. A massive bird of fire, a dragon made from lightning, a tiger made of ice, a turtle made out of earth, and a behemoth made out of metal.

Looking at these beasts, feeling the awe inspiring power that they were radiating, Huang Ying couldn't help but wonder if these were the true embodiments of the Primordial Elements, the progenitors of all elements and creation.

These four beasts each broke up into tiny pieces that started floating around in the black space. When the pieces crashed into each other, they would start forming planets and galaxies.

When the planets started forming, Huang Ying realized what he was seeing, the birth of the universe. Before his very eyes, a universe was being born. Huang Ying continued floating there and watching as the white person waved his hand, the universe evolving with each wave of his hands.

After watching for what felt like an eternity, the universe had completely formed and experienced countless years. The white person was still standing in the spot where he was first born, overlooking the growth of the entire universe. Whenever the white person waved his hand, something was born.

While Huang Ying was observing, the entire universe suddenly started trembling. As the universe was trembling, a massive black three eyed serpent appeared. The serpent was a deep black, looking like a scar in the very fabric of the universe.

While Huang Ying was looking at this serpent, he could feel an ancient energy radiating from it, the same energy that Huang Ying felt from the voice that rang out within his mind. The same energy that started radiating from his Baku blood after he accepted the power of the voice. Clearly, this massive serpent was the one who offered him it's power.

The massive serpent overlooked the entire universe for a short while. After overlooking the entire universe, the black serpent opened it's maw and swept through the entire universe, swallowing everything. The last thing it swallowed was the white person that had orchestrated the birth of the universe.

After swallowing everything, the black serpent coiled up and stopped moving. After the black serpent stopped moving, it's entire body slowly turned into a white fog that occupied the entire black space. After the entire black serpent turned into white fog, the white fog once more separated into three, turning into a white person, a black orb, and a white orb, the cycle of creation and destruction repeating once more.
  • Chapter 85: Primordial element of destruction.

After the cycle of Creation and Destruction repeated in what seemed like and endless cycle, Huang Ying's consciousness returned to his body, a large sea of information flooding into his mind. He didn't even need to check this information to find out about the power he had just been given, from what he had just seen, he could easily guess what power he had just been given an which element Baku had been the embodiment of, Destruction.

When Huang Ying tried to fuse his Baku blood with the White Tiger blood, two bloodlines that both held a trace of power from the Primordial Elements, he awakened the strength of destruction that slumbered within the Baku blood.

The Primordial Element of Chaos, also known as Creation, got into an argument with the Primordial Element of Destruction. The Element of Creation wanted to stop the cycle of Birth and Destruction, creating a single universe that would last forever, while the Element of Destruction argued that nothing could last forever, choosing to continue the cycle of Birth and Destruction.

After not getting anywhere with their argument, the Element of Creation united with the other Primordial Elements to seal away the strength of the Element of Destruction, each sealing a small part of it within themselves.

The only reason the Element of Destruction still existed was because the Primordial Element of Destruction hid a small trace of it's power on a recently created planet, allowing it to form an embodiment of it's own.

After having it's power sealed, the Element of Destruction could do nothing but wait for someone that somehow not only managed to obtain that trace of power it had hid away, but also some power from another Primordial Element, allowing it to completely awaken as the Primordial Element of Destruction. It's wait did not end up being fruitless, as it had finally found someone that managed to do just that.

As Huang Ying was going through the information, he also noticed that some of the information did not match what he had learned from the middle-aged man. After thinking about it for a short while, he wrote it up as the middle-aged man simply adding some of his own theories to the information he told Huang Ying.

After going through all the information, Huang Ying turned his vision back into his body to check on his current condition. The first thing he noticed was the change that happened to his dantian.

Before he accepted the power of the Primordial Element of Destruction, the World Core in his dantian was in the shape of a round, black, fist sized rock surrounded by four suns, one black, one white, one red, and one blue.

Now, the World Core had broken, half of it falling off and vanishing, leaving behind a crescent moon shaped World. It was still surrounded by four suns, but the black sun that stood for the Devouring Element had changed.

While it was still the same black as his Devouring Element, it kept on flickering, sometimes changing into a deeper black, a black that made it look like it was a hole in the very fabric of space. Huang Ying knew that this meant that his Devouring Element had also turned into the Destruction Element.

While they were similar, the main difference was that if he used the devouring element, he would absorb whatever he devoured. This worked very well against everything that was living, as he would slightly strengthen his body and life force by devouring theirs.

But if he used the Destruction Element, he would completely erase whatever it was he destroyed, removing it from existence completely. He would not absorb anything from it, but it worked better for things that were not alive or too strong for him to devour.

Huang Ying also knew that the reason his World Core had turned into a crescent moon shape was because his Destruction Element was not complete. Only once he managed to devour the power of the Nine Primordial Elements, or the power of Creation, would his World Core become whole.

While he could use the Destruction Element now, until his World Core was complete, he would not be able to use the full strength of the Destruction Element. This was why the Primordial Element of Destruction had told him that he needed to completely restore it's power.

After giving the area in his dantian one last look, Huang Ying turned his vision onto the rest of his body. Instead of the five bloodlines his body used to have, there were now only two bloodlines left. His human blood and the fusion of all his other bloodlines.

Huang Ying did not know what to call this new bloodline, so he simply decided to call it Destruction Bloodline. Since it was a fusion between his past bloodlines as well as the Element of Destruction, the power boost it would give him when he burned it was much stronger than his past bloodlines. Of course this also meant that the strain on his body would be larger as well.

While he was checking out his new bloodline, he also checked up on Little Flame. While his Destruction Bloodline had devoured Little Flame while it was fusing all his bloodlines, it was only so that it could strengthen it. Since Little Flame contained all his bloodlines, it would obviously also get strengthened.

The new Little Flame looked almost identical as it did before it was strengthened, the biggest difference being that it's feathers had turned an even darker black, approaching the same black as Huang Ying's Destruction Element. It had also grown larger in size. While it used to only be about two palms tall, it had now grown in size to almost a meter tall, with a wingspan of almost two meters.

While it did not look much different, Huang Ying knew that it had gained one other thing in addition to the increase in strength, the ability to change it's shape. While it was currently in the shape of a black phoenix, it could now change it's shape, taking on the shape and power of every Demonic beast whose bloodlines it had.

This meant that while it now looked like a black phoenix and used fire attacks, if Huang Ying needed to, he could have it change into a small Azure Dragon and use lightning attacks, or a small White Tiger and use ice attacks. He could even have it change into a black serpent and use the devouring and destruction elements.

After checking everything within his body once more, and also going over all the information once more, Huang Ying let out a long breath and opened his eyes. Since he had accepted this destruction element, odds were that the holder of the creation element would come look for him at some point, meaning that he now had another reason to quickly grow stronger.

  • Chapter 86: Three lists.

When Huang Ying opened his eyes again, all traces of aura vanished from his body. He seemed just like a completely normal human, but his aura was only hidden deep within his body, making it impossible for others to know about his cultivation level.

This was not something Huang Ying did consciously, but rather something that happened when he acquired the destruction element. All of his aura was gathered around his World Core, looking as if it was doing it's best to hold the entire thing together.

The middle-aged man sat on the throne not far ahead of Huang Ying, looking at him with a faint smile. Xin Yang and Fang Shan still stood at one side, silently transmitting their voices into each others ears, discussing the current situation.

“It seems like you have managed to increase your cultivation level safely, and even grown quite a bit stronger.”

The first one to break the silence was the middle-aged man. His eyes scanned Huang Ying's body, but even he found it troublesome to detect Huang Ying's aura at this moment. At best he was only capable of feeling some traces of it hiding deep within his body.

“Merely a small improvement, nothing worth mentioning.”

Huang Ying gave a polite smile as he spoke, he had no interest in explaining too much about it. The middle-aged man might have threatened to kill him if he did not absorb that drop of blood he gave him earlier, but that only meant that he was expecting something from Huang Ying. Now that Huang Ying had absorbed that drop of blood, there odds of the middle-aged man killing him were much smaller.

“You can leave now, there is no longer a need for you to waste more time here with an old man like me.”

The middle-aged man narrowed his eyes when he heard Huang Ying's dismissive reply, but his face quickly changed, his mouth curving into a pleasant smile as he changed the subject. The middle-aged man simply changed the subject too fast, there was no way Huang Ying would not be suspicious, but before Huang Ying had the time to react, the middle-aged man made his move.

The middle-aged man waved his hand, causing the space around Huang Ying, Xin Yang, and Fang Shan to coagulate. The space around them quickly turned viscous, restraining their body and causing them to be unable to move. After their bodies were completely restrained by the viscous space, the world in front of their eyes turned black. When they opened their eyes again, they found themselves standing on a small hill not far away from the place where Huang Ying first entered the ruins.

After he sent the three of them out of the ruins, the middle-aged man looked at the spot where Huang Ying stood earlier, the smile on his face growing wider. After sitting there in silence for a short while, he burst out in a hysteric laughter, the sound of his laughter echoing throughout the hall around him.

“With the drop of blood containing my aura mixed into your body, there is no way that those seven bastards will leave you alone. Even if you don't want to fight them, they will come for you, and you will be forced to fight them.”

“With the blood of Baku and even the soul of the Dark King residing within his body, I wonder how you seven bastards will deal with this new sword of mine.”

As the middle-aged man thought about how he had managed to produce another sword to point at the Seven Dictators despite being dead for so many years, his laughter only grew in intensity. After spending a bit of time laughing, he managed to calm himself down again, his Remnant Will returning to the slumber it had been in before Huang Ying entered his tomb.

While the middle-aged man was laughing in his tomb, Huang Ying and the others stood on the hill and were slightly confused. They did not expect the middle-aged man to simply cut it short and just send them out like that. Despite spending some time discussing and thinking about it, they could not come up with anything, so they could only drop it for now.

Even if they figured out what the middle-aged man was planning, what good would it do? A simple wave of his hand would be enough to kill them, whatever he was planning, they had no choice but to follow it, no matter how unwilling they were.

“In another year's time, the Seven Overlords will open a spatial passageway to allow some juniors to enter a place called the Immortal's Garden, the abode of an ancient cultivator. Only people who haven't reached the Immortal Ascension realm can enter, so the Seven Overlords use this garden to temper and train some of their more promising juniors. I need to return to my clan and partake in the selection process to enter, so I have to return now. What will you two do?”

Xin Yang was the first one to change the subject. The Immortal's Garden could only be opened once ever five years, so none of the Seven Overlords were willing to miss this chance. Xin Yang had gotten almost nothing in the Vast Plains Ruin, so he was not willing to miss this chance to enter the Immortal's Garden.

“There should still be a city by the name of Golden Auction City a few days walk away from here, specialized in selling ores and other rare materials, correct?”

Fang Shan rolled her eyes for a bit before she spoke and pointed towards the west. Even though she had spent her entire life inside the ruins, she had still made contact with some of the people that tried to explore the ruins, learning a few things about the outside world.

“Yes, Golden Auction City lies around five days walk to the west, is there anything you need there?”

Xin Yang fondled his chin for a short moment before he nodded his head, there was indeed a city by the name of Golden Auction City a few days walk away from this spot. It was a popular place to sell items as the auctions held there never asked about the identity of the seller, or where they had acquired the item.

“I need some ores and other materials to upgrade my weapons, otherwise they will end up lagging behind once I start absorbing the energy from the Demon Crystal.”

Fang Shan had been given the Demon Crystal belonging to her father, the Kirin. If she trained normally, her weapons would grow stronger as she did, but since she was going to absorb the energy within the Demon Crystal, her cultivation would increase too fast. This would make it highly likely that her weapons would become too weak if she did not upgrade them using ores and other materials.

“Alright. What about you Brother Ying?”

Xin Yang nodded his head before turning to Huang Ying. He would like to travel alongside Huang Ying a bit more, maybe even surprise Jing He by bringing him to meet her. But he also knew that Huang Ying had his own plans, so he needed to first check what he himself was planning.

“I'll follow her first before I head towards the center region, there are some materials I still need as well.”

Huang Ying spent a short moment thinking before responding. Following Xin Yang was very tempting, it would probably even let him see Jing He earlier, but he eventually chose not to follow him back.

One of the reasons was that the Golden Auction City sounded like a place where Huang Ying could get his hands on the materials he needed to forge himself a weapon, the same weapon he had seen the king of Blue Dragon City use.

Another reason was that even if he followed Xin Yang back now, the odds of him getting to actually meet and stay with Jing He were minimal. He had just entered the Xiantian Realm, he had barely started cultivating. But the two guards that came to pick up Jing He in the past were both capable of flight, which was a testament to how high their cultivation was. If two people like this were sent to pick her up, it was obvious how high her standing in the Jing clan was.

“I see, that's a shame. Take these. Using these badges, you can take the entry test for Eastern Wind Academy at any time. If you decide to join, you can just find me then. These badges can also be used to contact me, just infuse them with a bit of your Qi and whatever message you want to transmit, and the message will arrive at my own badge.”

Xin Yang sighed and took out two green badges from his interspatial ring. The badges were shaped like shields and were deep green in color, a wavy symbol engraved on the front, with the words Eastern Wind engraved at the bottom.

Xin Yang not only gave them these badges in hopes that they would come find him in the future, but also to hopefully have them join the Eastern Wind Academy. The Eastern Wind and First Dawn Academies were both weaker than the Eternal Flame Academy and the Four Clans. If Huang Ying and Fang Shan both joined the Eastern Wind Academy, with their potential, they could very well be what elevated the Eastern Winds Academy up to the same status as the Four Clans.

Huang Ying and Fang Shan both took the badge and looked at it for a short second before storing them away in their interspatial ring. They had no interest in joining any academies right now, but having the option in the future was always better than having nothing.

“Take these too, memorize the names and faces of everyone on those three lists.”

Xin Yang seemed to have remembered something as he brought out three jade slips. The jade slips were a translucent green, without anything written on them. These jade slips were a normal way of storing information in the cultivation world.

One could use their Qi to write down information within these jade slips, allowing the information to remain inside for as long as the jade existed. One only had to insert a bit of their Qi and mind into the jade slip to have the information transmitted into their mind.

    “Memorize them?”

Huang Ying grabbed one of the jade slips, Fang Shan grabbing the other two. Inspecting the jade slip, Huang Ying couldn't help but raise his eyebrow. Inside the jade slip were 100 different names and pictures. Each one with a number and a bit of information next to the picture.

“Indeed, these three lists are called the Rising Dragon List, the Flying Dragon List, and the Divine Dragon List. The Rising Dragon List is a list of the 100 strongest Yin-Yang Formation cultivators. The Flying Dragon List is a list of the 100 strongest Immortal Ascension cultivators, while the Divine Dragon List is a list of the 100 strongest Deity Heart cultivators. None of the people on this list are people you want to offend.”

  • Chapter 87: Heaven's Secrets Company.

Hearing his words, Huang Ying couldn't help but be astonished. Lists ranking the top 100 experts of the varying cultivation levels? After Xiantian Builder came the Yin Yang Formation realm, after that came the Immortal Ascension realm, then the Deity Heart realm, and finally, the Sovereign realm.

People who managed to reach the Sovereign realm were considered gods on this planet. People who weren't educated believed that the element a person was born with was a blessing given to them by someone who had reached the Sovereign realm with that element.

Huang Ying quickly went through all three lists, memorizing every name and face. As he went through the three lists, he couldn't help but exclaim when he saw how detailed the information about most of the people on the lists was. It detailed not just their element, but also their equipment and favored fighting style, even some of their attacks.

“Why do they all have these weird nicknames.”

Fang Shan spoke out as she was going through the lists, a slightly amused expression on her face. Huang Ying had also noticed it as he went through the lists. For example, the one who was ranked first on the Rising Dragon List was called 'Blooming Lotus Dai Hui.' while the second ranked one was called 'Universe Hand Song Xue' and the third ranked one was called 'Dark Dawn Tang Ling.'

“Their nicknames are given to them by the Heaven's Secrets Company. They are also the ones who create these lists. The nicknames are based on a mixture of their personalities, looks, as well as their techniques and elements.”

Xin Yang shrugged his shoulder as he spoke. Nicknames were commonly given to people when they reached a certain level of power and fame, they served as titles of sort, allowing people to know exactly who they were dealing with.

    “Heaven's Secrets Company?”

Huang Ying tilted his head as he repeated Xin Yang's words. He had never heard about this Heaven's Secrets Company, not even in all the memories of the people he had devoured. A company that was capable of creating such detailed lists was surely a behemoth.

“The Heaven's Secrets Company is the name of a company that deals in basically everything. It's hands are capable of reaching every part of this continent, it can even reach places outside of this continent.”

“Heaven's Secrets Company is the name it uses in the center region, but it has a myriad of different names that it uses in different locations. If you find any companies that are called either Waning Moon or Misty Moon, they are subordinates of the Heaven's Secrets Company.”

Hearing Xin Yang's words, Huang Ying finally realized. Since it was dealing with basically everything, it would obviously have a few different aliases for when it was doing things that were less than legal.

The Waning Moon that Huang Ying contacted while he was in Cloud's End dealt in assassinations for example. While the Misty Moon House he contacted while in Yellow Winds Town dealt in information purchasing and selling. Now it seemed like both of these places belonged to the same company.

Xin Yang did not continue to stay around after he handed out the two badges and the three lists. He took out another jade badge and inserted some Qi into it, transmitting some information back to his clan, before cupping his hands to Huang Ying and Fang Shan and leaving.

In truth, the reason Xin Yang left so fast was because he was feeling the pressure. When Huang Ying was only at the 9th heaven, he was capable of killing the king of Blue Dragon City, a Demonic beast at the late stage of the Xiantian Realm.

Even though the king was not someone with any profound strength, he was still someone at the late stage of the Xiantian Realm. Fang Shan had also reached the Xiantian Realm, but he himself was still only at the 9th heaven. Xin Yang did not show it, but he was still a prideful person, even if he could not exceed Huang Ying and Fang Shan, he at least wanted to be their equal.

After Xin Yang left, Huang Ying and Fang Shan had no reason to wait around either. When they left the ruins, it was just around noon, so there was no point in waiting around before heading towards Golden Auction City.

“So what are you going to do?”

As the two of them were walking in the direction that Xin Yang had pointed out, Huang Ying turned his head towards Fang Shan as he spoke.

    “What do you mean?”

Fang Shan cocked her head in confusion in response to Huang Ying's words.

“You seemed rather eager to leave the ruins, I don't imagine it was just to experience the sights of the outside world. What drives you to keep moving forward?”

Huang Ying did not believe that Fang Shan wanted to leave the ruins simply to explore the outside world, she seemed far too driven for something like that. Since they had nothing better to do, he figured that he might as well get to know her better.

“No, I don't really have much of an interest in the outside world, I wanted to leave so that I could find and kill the Azure Dragon.”

Fang Shan shook her head as she spoke, her eyes gleaming with hatred as she spoke about the Azure Dragon.

    “Kill the Azure Dragon?”

Huang Ying couldn't help but be slightly surprised, he did not expect her reason for wanting to leave to be something that extreme. One had to know that not even the middle-aged man inside the ruins, who had reached an unfathomable level of power, was capable of killing the Azure Dragon.

“My father was not the first one to stand and guard the seal, there were several before him. When each one reached the end of their life, a part of their power and flesh would be separated from them, forming a new body that could guard the seal.”

“The Azure Dragon allowed the other Guardian Beasts to seal one of his own descendants inside those ruins. Because of him, my father and everyone before him was sealed inside those ruins for countless years, forced to just wait for their death, when their children would take over for them. My father never even got to leave that cave. For that, I will kill him, for that, I will never stop moving forward.”

Fang Shan's face twisted into a disdainful expression as she spoke. The Azure Dragon had let it's own descendants be sealed into those ruins, just to keep a bit of Remnant Will sealed away. For something as tiny as that, he had deprived his own descendants of their freedom.

    “What about you?”

After she finished speaking, Fang Shan turned her head and returned the question to Huang Ying. She was actually rather interested in Huang Ying. He seemed afraid of dying, but at the same time, he was reckless enough to carry a dismissive attitude in front of the middle-aged man inside the ruins.

    “Me?”

Huang Ying couldn't help but raise his eyebrow at her question.

“Yeah, you. Is there even anything driving you forward?”

Fang Shan gave a short nod and looked closely at Huang Ying. From what she had seen from him so far, he seemed more like a person that went with the flow rather than a person that planned ahead in an attempt to accomplish a goal.

“Of course there is, everyone has something that drives them forward.”

Huang Ying gave a short chuckle, but didn't continue his sentence.

“Then what is it that drives you?”

Fang Shan stopped walking and rolled her eyes for a short moment before firmly staring at Huang Ying. Since he had made her talk about her own motivation, there was no way that she would let him get away without talking about his.

“Have you ever felt like you are something different from what you really are?”

Huang Ying raised his arms in defeat upon seeing her staring at him so firmly. He took a short minute to collect his thoughts before he spoke out, asking her another question.

    “What?”

Fang Shan couldn't help but tilt her head in confusion, not quite able to understand exactly what he meant.

“Something different than what you used be. Like if you suddenly woke up one day and found out that you were a human, or a sentient plant.”

Huang Ying specified it a bit more, even giving an example.

    “No, why?”

Fang Shan finally understood what he meant and shook her head. At the same time, she was now even more confused. How could people ever feel like they were something different than what they used to be? What would something like that even feel like?

“I once did, even now I still feel it at times. One day, I awakened my power and killed everything around me, leaving me with nothing, not even my humanity. At that time, despite the carnage I caused, I felt nothing. Not long after, I even used a living person as a test subject to better understand my newfound power. After that I proceeded to kill several people, for the simple fact that they had something that I wanted.”

As Huang Ying spoke, his face had a complicated expression. He had become completely numb to killing others, something like that no longer fazed him. But the fact that he had become so numb to that, to the point where he was capable of murdering droves of people in Yellow Winds Town without blinking, he had to admit that it slightly scared him.

“At that time, I didn't even feel like myself anymore, I felt like I was just some monster, an abomination. Hell, I didn't even feel alive at that time.”

That was one of the reasons Huang Ying was rather fond of fighting. His blood boiled whenever he was in the heat of a fight, he felt alive. Huang Ying never said it, but the thought of not being human anymore scared him. After he awakened his power and devoured the entire town, being human was the only thing he had left. But even that had started slowly slipping away from him as he grew stronger.

“But then I met her. She was annoying and noisy, and she never stopped complaining. But whenever I was with her, I felt like myself, I felt human again. Then she was taken away from me, showing me just how weak I was, how worthless the arrogance I had built up really was. I just want the strength to be able to stand next to her and feel human again, without having to worry about anyone taking it away from me. That it was drives me forward.”

When Huang Ying spoke up to this point, his face couldn't help but turn gentler as he was reminiscing about the past. It had been less than a year ago, but so much had happened since then that it felt like it had happened ages ago.

He missed the simplicity of those days. There was no large knife looming over him, he could just travel and train as he did so, slowly looking for where the Four Guardian Beasts were sealed if he felt like it.

Now he was being hunted by an unknown enemy, the holder of the creation element could start hunting him at any time, and he had to kill the Four Guardian Beasts and the Three Great Gods just to gain the strength to protect himself.

Huang Ying preferred the peace and simplicity that he had in the past, but he also knew that he needed strength to preserve that peace and simplicity. Once he became stronger than anyone else, who would be left that could steal that peace from him?

  • Chapter 88: Fire And Fury.

In an almost forgotten corner of the Jing clan was a quiet pond. The pond was only around 20 meters across, filled with clear blue water. A myriad of differently colored lotuses floated gently in the water, a weeping willow hanging at the side of the pond.

At the very center of the pond floated a large, yellow lotus. At the very center of this lotus sat a graceful, middle-aged woman clad in light blue robes, a purple plum blossom hairpin tying her long black hair up into a bun. The woman was seated in the lotus position, meditating as she breathed slowly but steadily.

Whenever the woman exhaled, a grey stream of energy would be released from her body, slowly dissolving into the surroundings. If Huang Ying was here, he would surely recognize this grey energy as Qi that contained the power of time, an extremely rare element.

“Are you simply going to stand there and stare?”

The woman suddenly broke the silence, a sweet smile spreading on her lips. Her voice was beautiful and soothing, like the ringing of silver bells. As she spoke, she turned her head to the side and opened her eyes. When she opened her eyes, one could see that her eyes had no pupils, they were completely white. She was clearly blind.

“How could I not stand and stare when you get more beautiful with each passing day.”

After the woman spoke, a chuckle rang out as a tall and imposing man suddenly appeared at the side of the bond. The man had a tall and powerful frame, his head covered in short, chest-nut colored hair. The man had deep green eyes that seemed to see through everything.

“Keep talking sweetly and you might even get something. I don't believe that you came here just to flirt a bit more with me?”

The woman stood up from the lotus and stepped out onto the water. Instead of sinking into the water, her feet stepped on the water like it was solid ground, faint ripples spreading outwards. She crossed the pond and embraced the imposing man, giving him a gentle kiss before she spoke.

“Can I not come just to spend some time with my own wife? The clan has been given orders.”

The imposing man gave a wry smile as he spoke the first sentence, but his face quickly turned more serious as he continued talking, the orders were clearly not something good.

“They don't seem to be good orders?”

The graceful woman was blind, but by using her perception, she could still see a bit of her surroundings. She could also feel the shift in her husband's aura, so it was clear that this was serious.

“We are to break the engagement with the Xin clan. She will be given to the person who proves himself to have the purest ice element. If we cannot find anyone during the Dragon Meeting, someone will be found for her.”

As the imposing man spoke, his face twisted into a furious expression. He was fine with having his daughter marry the boy from the Xin clan, at least they knew that he was a good person, they also knew that this would lead their daughter onto a safe path. But now they were ordered to simply give her away to whoever had the purest ice element? Did they think that his daughter was some sort of prize they could just give away?

    “I see, that explains it.”

Contrary to what the imposing man expected, his wife responded with a calm voice as she nodded her head, she seemed to have already expected this.

    “Did you see something?”

The man quickly caught on to something. His wife had the element of time, using her Qi, she could see into the past or the future. While she could see what happened in the past, when she wanted to see into the future, she would only see what was most likely to happen.

If she wanted to see into the future of someone that was supremely powerful or had some heaven defying secrets, she would have to pay a certain price. The reason she was blind was because she tried to see into their daughter's future right after she was born.

She managed to see into the future, but since the future she saw was not a good one for their daughter, she tried to find a future that would end up better for her. After spending a large amount of energy, she managed to find a single person that had the chance to change their daughter's future.

When she tried to spy upon this persons future, before she managed to see too much, her eyes started bleeding, the very pupils themselves melting and vanishing from her eyes. But her sacrifice was not in vain, they managed to find a way to change their daughter's future.

“Not much, ever since the phenomenon, it has been too blurry to see anything clearly. But once I moved my eyes away from him and onto her I managed to see a a little.”

The graceful woman shook her head. A few days ago, a phenomenon shook the entire world. The sky around the entire world turned completely black, even the clouds themselves were dyed black. Before anyone had time to react, a roar shook the entire planet.

The roar sounded for nearly a full five minutes before it slowly vanished. After the roar vanished, the clouds started rumbling, a massive black figure appearing amidst the clouds,

The figure seemed to be in the shape of a serpent, pitch black scales covering it's entire body. It's back was lined with large, silvery spikes. Two massive wings that covered the entire sky unfurled behind the serpent, it's black feathers swaying like flames. The serpent had a dragon's head, it's amber eyes overlooking the entire world with a hungry gaze.

After the serpent's gaze scanned the world beneath it, it's two amber eyes slowly closed. As it's eyes were closing, the entire world started vibrating and trembling. Once it's two eyes closed, a crack opened in the middle of the serpent's head, a third eye slowly opening.

Once the eye fully opened, the trembling stopped and the entire world fell silent. The eye was completely black, looking almost like a hole in the sky. The eye overlooked the entire world, but it's gaze was not hungry like the two amber eyes, it's gaze was completely indifferent, like a god overlooking an ant. After the third eye overlooked the world for a few minutes, the serpent vanished and the black sky returned to normal.

    “What did you see?”

The imposing man quickly asked. He was not surprised that she had not been able to see anything when she tried to look into the future of that boy, his wife had sacrificed her eyesight just to see into the boys future, and that was before he even awakened his powers.

“I saw fire and fury. Black flames that rose into the heavens, burning away even the clouds themselves. I did not understand why I would see this at first, but now it seems like it is going to be the clans fault.”

The graceful woman spoke silently, almost like a whisper. Just remembering those black flames burning the heavens caused her to feel a lingering fear.

    “Does anything happen to He'er?”

The imposing man hurriedly asked with a worried voice, if it was going to be so bad, was there not a chance that something would happen to his daughter?

“Not that I could see, she seemed safe with him.”

The woman shook her head, a relieved smile on her face. She could not see into that boy's future, but her daughter seemed safe and happy when she was at his side, what more could a mother ask for?

“Then that is good. As long as she is safe, this clan can go to hell for all I care.”

The man let loose a relieved sigh as he spoke. Were it not for the fact that they were being watched whenever they left the clan, he would have taken his wife and daughter and left long ago. He had the Jing surname, but he had no attachments to the Jing clan.

“Is there anything else you came to see me for?”

The woman leaned in closer, resting her head on the man's chest, listening to his heartbeat and enjoying the silence for a short moment before she spoke up again. The news she had been told were rather shocking, but she also doubted that those were the only news.

“There is movement at the edge of the Zhao clan area. The Divine Wilderness has been moving more and more recently. If the clan wants you to see if anything is happening there, you don't need to spend the energy on it. The Divine Wilderness belongs to the Zhao clan, there is no need for us to waste energy on it.”

The imposing man leaned his head on her's, taking in the scent of her hair as he spoke. The Divine Wilderness was what the people of the center region called the massive wilderness dividing this continent and the Green Willows continent, the wilderness that was simply called The Wilderness in the Green Willows continent.

The elders of the clan had asked him to try and see if he could get his wife to divine the future of the areas around the Divine Wilderness, so that they could make the proper preparations. He swiftly rejected this in her place and left the meeting. Every time his wife divined the future, it would place a large strain on her, he would not let her undergo this strain just to check on the area of a different clan.

  • Chapter 89: Golden Auction House.

Jing Yimu had just entered Golden Auction City, his Junior Brothers and Sisters from the clan following behind him. While his Junior Brothers and Sisters were marveling at the sights around them, Jing Yimu opened his mouth to show off his wisdom.

“This Golden Auction City got it's name not only from the yearly auction that takes place here, but also from it's architectural style.”

While Jing Yimu was talking, he used his hands to point at several of the buildings that were around them. The roads of the city were wide enough that Jing Yimu could walk shoulder to shoulder with his four Junior Brothers and Sisters. While walking shoulder to shoulder, there was even enough space around them for others to pass by them.

The houses Jing Yimu pointed at were all built using what seemed to be a single large rock, none of them taller than two floors. The buildings were all completely round in color and painted a faint gold, their roofs covered in black tiles.

“As you can see, the houses around us use a rather uncommon style of architecture, favoring the use of round buildings that rarely get over two floors. Each building will be coated in a layer of golden paint, the deeper the gold, the more important the house.”

Jing Yimu pointed to some houses that were closer to the center of the city. As the buildings got closer to the center of the city, the faint golden color slowly turned deeper.

At the very center of the city stood a tall house. The house was still completely round, but it was s bit over five floors tall, a deep golden in color. Instead of the normal black tiled round roofs, this building's roof was square in shape, the edges of the roof hanging over the edges of the building.

The roof used red tiles and there were paper lanterns decorated with soaring dragons hanging along the edges of the roof. Not far below the roof hung a large sign engraved with a golden hammer and the words Golden Auction House.

“Houses like that one, that have a square roof with red tiles and decorated with paper lanterns, are the most important venues in this town. Every house that uses this type of design belongs to the Heaven's Secrets Company, so whatever you do, never make a ruckus in one of those places.”

Several of the buildings in this city were run and owned by Heaven's Secrets Company. Not even the patriarchs of the Four Clans dared needlessly antagonize the Heaven's Secrets Company, so how would they dare?

“Since this city has buildings belonging to the Heaven's Secrets Company, despite it's disadvantageous position, surrounded by hills and located in an area on the border of the territory of two different clans, it has never once been attacked.”

Golden Auction City was not just surrounded by a large amount of hills, giving potential attackers the geographical advantage, but it was also placed right between the territory of the Yong and the Zhao clan. Since it was placed so precariously, both clans would normally fight over who got to control the city, but since Heaven's Secrets Company owned several buildings, no one dared to attack the city to take it over.

“Senior Brother Yimu is very learned.”

“Of course, Senior Brother Yimu is contesting with Senior Brother Guetang for the spot of the top outer disciple.”

Jing Yimu brought four Junior Apprentices with him on this trip, two Junior Brothers, Tan Feng and Zi De, and two Junior Sisters, Lai Ju and Xu Hui. After he finished talking, the two Junior Brothers immediately opened their mouths to flatter him.

Jing Yimu had some connections to the Jing clan, his father had married one of the Jing clan disciples, giving him the right to name his son with the Jing name. But these four Junior Brothers and Sisters were not born in the Jing clan, they were people that had been taken in by the Jing clan, they were the lowest of the low, even among the outer disciples. They would never miss a chance to build a good relationship with a true descendant of the Jing clan.

Jing Yimu liked hearing their flattering, but he also knew his own position. He was competing with Jing Guetang for the top outer disciple position, but that was all he would amount to, he had nearly no chance to become an inner disciple.

Becoming a core disciple, or even a personal disciple was completely impossible for him. Had it not been for the fact that he had once met with the Young Mistress of the Jing clan, it wouldn't even be possible for him to contest with Jing Guetang for the position of top outer disciple.

“Do you think the rumors are true Senior Brother Yimu? Will this Golden Auction really have a page from the book of Demon God Yao Jun?”

While the two Junior Brothers were flattering him, one of the Junior Sisters, Lai Ju, spoke in a hushed tone. The Golden Auction was an auction that took place in this city once every year. People could come in and have their own items auctioned, while the Heaven's Secrets Company would also put out some of their own items for auction.

Each auction would have one item that would be the center piece, the main item. The Golden Auction House had gotten a remnant page from a book that was supposedly written by the Demon God Yao Jun, but since it was hard to figure out whether this book really was written by him, they could not use this item as their main item.

“Hard to say. It has been a long time since Demon God Yao Jun visited this planet, so the page might be fake. But if the page is real, this is undoubtedly going to be a very exciting auction.”

Jing Yimu shook his head as he spoke, his face frowning. Demon God Yao Jun had visited this planet once many years ago, in fact, he even visited this very continent, saying that he was here to return the favor to someone that once helped him in the past.

The patriarchs of the Four Clans feared that this Yao Jun would undermine their control over the continent, so they immediately set out to either make him submit, or force him to leave.

The end result was that Yao Jun waved his hand, and the entire sky was suddenly covered by a massive black gate. Once the gate opened, a large amount of Demonic beasts swarmed out, each one far stronger than any of the patriarchs.

Seeing these Demonic beasts, the patriarchs knew that they stood no chance against this person. If just his Demonic beasts were this strong, how strong would he himself be. Each of the patriarchs paid large amounts of Spirit Stones and other materials to beg for forgiveness. In the end, he was given the title Demon God and stayed on this continent for a few years before leaving.

“But while acquiring this page might sound exciting, we must not forget what we came here for. We are only here to get our hands on the Crystal Ice Lotus Seeds. Once we have managed to acquire them, then we can start looking for other things.”

Jing Yimu shook his head and changed the subject. Jing Yimu was here on a mission by one of the outer elders, his mission was to buy some of the Crystal Ice Lotus Seeds that were going to be sold in this auction. These seeds would allow the elder to plant a few Crystal Ice Lotuses of his own.

Many people in the Jing clan used the ice element, even the outer disciples that were taken in by the Jing clan were mostly users of the ice element. A few Crystal Ice Lotuses would allow some of the outer disciples to grow stronger much faster, giving them a better chance at becoming inner disciples.

    “We understand Senior Brother Yimu.”

The four Junior Brothers and Sister all quickly nodded their heads and voiced their agreements.

“Good. Follow me, the auction will start in only a few hours.”

Seeing them voice their agreements, Jing Yimu gave a satisfied nod and led them towards the largest house located at the center of the city, Golden Auction House.
  • Chapter 90: Remnant page.

Jing Yimu quickly brought his Junior Brothers and Sisters and entered the Golden Auction House. They were quickly brought to the fourth floor and were given a small booth to themselves.

The Golden Auction House had five floors, with the fifth floor being the place where the most important guests were placed. The first floor consisted of a large amount of seats placed next to each other. There was no privacy or anonymity, but these seats were only for those who did not have too much money.

The second floor was slightly better, with there being a bit of space between each seat. On the third floor, instead of seats, there were a large amount of booths that could house a few people. These booths offered a bit of privacy and anonymity, but if one was over the Xiantian realm, one could still spy on the inside of the booths.

The booths on the fourth floor were more luxurious, they were also covered in an array that prevented people below the Immortal Ascension realm from spying on what was going on inside.

The fifth floor only had ten booths, but they were all supremely luxurious and covered in arrays that were so strong that not even someone at the peak of the Deity Heart stage could spy upon the people inside.

Jing Yimu was only an outer disciple of the Jing clan, but he was still a person from the Jing clan, the Golden Auction House would have to give him some face, hence they gave him a booth on the fourth floor.

Since the Golden Auction House was round in shape, all the seats and booths were at the outer edge of the Golden Auction House, with the center being a large, empty stage where the auctioneer would stand and show off the items, the seats and booths all going around this stage.

“Welcome to this year's Golden Auction, I will be your auctioneer, Kang Tao. The rules of this auction are the same as every year, no one is allowed to fight for as long as the auction is going on, we will only accept Spirit Stones, and no one can pick up their items before the auction is over.”

After waiting for a little while, a short and stout man walked onto the stage. The man was clad in a luxurious red robe, his short black hair slicked backwards. His face was ruddy and red with excitement as he spoke. Behind this man stood two rows of youthful girls with busty figures clad in revealing outfits.

“Since I have already stated the rules, let us begin the auction immediately. Bring out the first item.”

Kang Tao spoke and waved his hand, causing one of the girls behind him to walk forward and bring out an exquisite wooden box. The box was covered in feathery carvings and gave off a faint heat.

“This is the first item, the Demon Crystal of a Fire Roc. This Roc had cultivated all the way to the middle stage of the Yin Yang Formation realm. After being hunted by the Zhao clan, it's core was delivered to us to sell. The starting bid is 50 Spiritual grade Spirit Stones.”

Spirit Stones were the most common currency used in the cultivation world. Spirit Stones were created when the density of Natural Qi reached a high enough level to where it could crystallize. The Spirit Stones were then ranked based on their purity and the amount of Qi they contained.

The lowest rank was Mortal grade Spiritual Stones. After that came Spiritual grade, then Earth Grade, then Heaven Grade. There were also supposedly two more ranks Primordial and Empyrean, but Jing Yimu had never seen them, so to him, they were just myths.

Spirit Stones were exchanged in the hundreds. 1 Spiritual grade Spirit Stone being 100 Mortal grade Spirit Stones. The same was true for the other ranks, with 1 Earth grade being worth 100 Spiritual grade.

Jing Yimu had no interest in this Demon Crystal as he had the ice element, so he simply continued to watch on in silence. The bids started out quickly, but also slowed down quickly. In the end, an indifferent voice rang out from one of the booths on the third floor and the Demon Crystal was sold for 80 Spiritual grade Spirit Stones.

One had to know that the normal worth of a cultivator at the Ying Yang Formation Realm was only about 2 Earth Grade Spirit Stones in total. The poorer ones would more often than not be unable to afford even a single Earth grade Spirit Stone, so 80 Spiritual grade Spirit Stones for such a Demon Crystal was considered rather expensive. Jing Yimu himself had only been given 10 Earth grade Spirit Stones to buy the Crystal Ice Lotus Seeds.

Kang Tao seemed to be rather pleased with the price that the Demon Crystal fetched, sending a smile towards one of the booths on the third floor before quickly bringing out the next items.

The next items that were auctioned were nothing special, mostly items that rogue cultivators had gathered and wanted to sell. This was standard procedure for an auction, start out with a decent item to grab some interest, before auctioning some other items that were not quite up to par, before finally building suspense as the items gradually got better, ending in the main item.

Jing Yimu was rather surprised as the auction went on, as most of the items that contained one or more elements were all bought by the same person who bought the Fire Roc Demon Crystal, a booth on the third floor.

Jing Yimu did not know who was sitting in that booth, but he had only heard two voices come out from the booth, one indifferent male voice, and the excited voice of a female, so he assumed that there were two rogue cultivators who happened to be rather rich inside that booth.

After the auction went on for a short while, Kang Tao waved his hand, causing one of the front-most girls to walk forward. In her hand was an exquisite jade box, a myriad of Demonic beast silhouettes carved into it.

“As i'm sure many of you have heard, we have acquired a remnant page that supposedly belongs to a book written by the Demon God Yao Jun. The next item up for auction is that very remnant page.”

The entire building instantly lit up with the sound of people whispering to each other. Kang Tao let the people whisper amongst each other for a short while before raising his hand, causing the entire building to descend into silence once more.

“We have not managed to translate the entire remnant page yet, but we have managed to learn that it talks about a person called Bai Xue. The Qi that still lingers on the page has some similarities with the Qi that Demon God Yao Jun had, but we still cannot confirm whether or not this page really comes from his book. If it really turns out to be from the book of the Demon God, we can only shake our heads and lament that we have made a bad deal. The starting bid will be 1 Earth grade Spirit Stone.”

Kang Tao spoke with a smile as he carefully introduced the remnant page. If they managed to confirm that this page came from the book of the Demon God, there was no way they would auction it in this city. They would immediately take it to the largest city in the center region and spread the news as far as they could, bringing in as many powerful people as they could.

    “30 Earth grade Spirit Stones.”

Before people managed to shout out their own bids, an indifferent voice rang out from a booth on the third floor, instantly raising the price to a ridiculous level. Jing Yimu couldn't help but be shocked, nor could the rest of the people in the building.

That was 20 Earth grade Spirit Stones! And there was no guarantee that the page even came from the book of the Demon God, it could just be a replica. Jing Yimu could not contain his curiosity, sending a sliver of his perception into that booth on the third floor.

He managed to see two people sitting in the booth, one petite and slim girl clad in a deep blue robe, waist long white hair and exquisite features, a true beauty but the aura radiating from her showed that she was at the middle stage of the Xiantian realm.

The other person was a male youth clad in a sky blue robe. The youth had long black hair tied up into a long ponytail, a purple plum blossom hairpin fastened at the bottom of the ponytail. The youth had smooth and clear features and there was no trace of aura coming from his body, he seemed just like a mortal scholar.

Just as the perception of Jing Yimu entered the booth, the male youth slightly turned his head, his eyes looking directly at Jing Yimu. Seeing the youth's eyes, Jing Yimu felt his heart shake. The youth's pupils were completely black, looking into those eyes, Jing Yimu felt like he was looking into a black hole.

The youth gave him an indifferent glance before letting out a cold snort. When the cold snort rang out, Jing Yimu felt a soul wrenching pain as his perception was completely destroyed. Jing Yimu did not dare make a sound, his face turning pale as cold sweat started dripping down his back.

Before his Junior Brothers and Sisters could ask what happened, he waved his hand and told them not to worry. The silence in the building continued for a short while before Kang Tao gave a bright smile and loudly proclaimed the remnant page sold. He had not expected it to fetch such a price, he even felt that 1 Earth grade Spirit Stone was already rather expensive.

“The next item up for auction is a group of Crystal Ice Lotus Seeds, 10 in total. The staring bid for this item will be 1 Earth grade Spirit Stone.”

Once Kang Tao's voice rang out again, Jing Yimu quickly put his entire attention on the stage, this was the item they were here for.
