Chapter 13: The Night Before the Final Battle

Storage Rings were not considered uncommon in the Yao clan, and even in Yao Chen’s poor family they were not hard to obtain. However, a Storage Ring with such a large space was still quite rare.

Liao Yuntu’s heart was actually bleeding inside. Even within the Liao family, there would not be more than five Storage Rings with such a huge space inside. It was quite obvious that the Violet Flame Pill, despite its value, was not worth using such a huge Storage Ring to exchange for. However only big bait could attract a big fish. Yao Chen had managed to enter into the final eight, so no matter his performance or what he obtained in the final battle, it would definitely be worth making a big investment to pull him closer.

Yao Chen smiled as he swept his consciousness over the Storage Ring’s interior. Other than the medicinal ingredients, there was also a medicinal cauldron whose grade matched his alchemist tier. Now Yao Chen took out the cauldron and medicinal ingredients, arranging them in the courtyard. With a wave of his hand and with a booming noise, the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique’s Dou Qi appeared between his hands, in a split second becoming a blazing serpent which wound around the medicinal cauldron. Yao Chen quickly focused his entire spirit on refining, entering a mysterious alchemy state.

At this moment, no one noticed that a shadow had quietly appeared in the corner. That shadow was the punishment hall’s chief Yao Wangui. Who knew whether it was simply due to his quiet nature or because he trained in some kind of Dou Technique, but it was very easy for him to sneak around. No one would even notice him standing there. Even if by chance you were to look over to where he was, you still wouldn’t be able to notice his existence.

Yao Wangui narrowed his eyes, looking at the refining Yao Chen. The undulations of the fire serpent gave him a kind of mysterious subtle feeling. From what he knew, that was simply a foundation building cultivation technique, the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique, and yet Yao Chen had already trained it to a level where Yao Wangui was unable to understand it, and in addition….

    Dou Shi class!

This kid’s strength was definitely not some nine star Dou Zhe, but was a three star Dou Shi!

Was he constantly hiding his strength before?

Yao Wangui was silently observing him, taking in Yao Chen’s every movement and every detail. The more he watched, the more amazed he became. Yao Chen had entered a kind of ‘no self, only alchemy’ state. In this kind of state, he could completely ignore the outside world’s disturbance and focus one hundred percent on the refining. In addition, his Spiritual Perception’s ability to control the medicinal cauldron’s ingredients  in this kind of ‘no self’ state would make it refining higher tier medicinal pills several times more easier. For an experienced alchemist, entering this kind of state made it many times more likely for them to refine a top grade medicinal pill.

Time flew by quickly, and this time’s refinement of the Violet Flame Pill proceeded exceptionally well due to the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique’s breakthrough. His Spiritual Perception had risen by another level, increasing the amount of control Yao Chen had when refining by several times. Under this kind of control, even though his Dou Qi couldn’t compare to when he exploded out with a Da Dou Shi’s strength during the Great Competition, it was still enough to perfectly control the various medicinal ingredients, perfectly merging them to form the pill.

It was in this manner that in just three hours, Yao Chen let out a deep breath and used a pill collecting art. Three bright lights flew out of the medicinal cauldron, throwing themselves into the pill bottle in Yao Chen’s hand.

After watching Yao Chen collect the three pills into his hand, Yao Wangui’s figure faintly twisted and faded away.

Yao Wangui returned home quickly where his brother Yao Feng was in the middle of examining a couple of medicinal ingredients in front of him. These medicinal ingredients were all rarely seen and were top grade medicinal ingredients. Yao Feng carefully selected a couple, placing them into his storage. Although he was proud and arrogant and didn’t believe anyone could compete against him at the Medicine Competition, he still wouldn’t act like a stupid person. The more something seemed like a sure win, the more you had to do to be make it even more certain. After all, even if there were only a couple things to take care of, they all had to be meticulously attended to.

    “Big brother, you’ve returned?”

“Yao Feng, that clan school kid who always follows you, where is he?”

“Yao Yun? Big brother, you have something you need to find him for?”

Yao Feng became distracted, not understanding why his big brother would want to find such an unremarkable character. Yao Yun might be ranked in the top of the clan school, but in the eyes of the main bloodline’s talented Yao Feng, he was just a footman and nothing more. If he muddled along with him, the only good thing was being seen as a model example.

“I have something to ask him.”

“Oh, I’ll go find someone to get him to come over.”

In a short while, Yao Yun arrived at the Second Elder’s estate. Originally he had already been planning on coming over anyways, and just as he had arrived in front of the estate he was informed that Yao Wangui was looking for him.

“Yao Punishment Chief, brother Feng.” Yao Yun lowered his head. Yao Wangui was the chief of the punishment hall, so he naturally had the title of Punishment Chief.

“This Yao Chen, just how much do you know about him?”

    “He’s a…-”

“I know you have some enmity with him. Do not intentionally belittle him and just tell me the whole truth pertaining to everything about him. As long as it’s something you know, tell me no matter how small or trivial it is. Tell me without holding anything back.”

Yao Wangui’s gaze focused on him, and in a split second his originally ordinary air that would cause people to overlook him changed to become an endlessly terrifying aura like being closely stalked by a savage devil.

Yao Yun swallowed a couple mouthfuls of saliva and a cold feeling came from his throat. “Yes. Yao Chen was never worth paying attention to in the clan school, but what everyone failed to notice, and what I only found out after he got first place at the clan school’s Great Competition, was that Yao Chen had already become a nine star Dou Zhe one and a half years ago. For the whole remaining time he stagnated as a nine star Dou Zhe….”

Facing Yao Wangui’s gaze, Yao Yun didn’t dare to make up fake details. He told him what he knew for sure in a systematic and detailed way. From time to time Yao Wangui would ask for a couple more details about a subject. In the end, under all of Yao Wangui’s encouragement and digging, Yao Yun’s face became pale as a skilled and unfamiliar Yao Chen appeared in his mind.

That Yao Chen who had never entered the top twenty in the clan school was clearly not so simple as everyone thought. A lot of details ended up being revealed, such as Yao Chen’s Spiritual Perception, his incredible talent as an alchemist, and in the end the image of him was… simply terrifying! In Yao Yun’s mind, only these two words could he describe how talented Yao Chen was as an alchemist. Merely, most people only noticed that Yao Chen practiced the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique, a foundation building technique that no one else would select. Looking at Yao Chen’s Dou Qi, he seemed to be only a nine star Dou Zhe. That was considered extremely low when everyone else had already advanced to Dou Shi. Very few people would pay attention to someone who was merely a trifling Dou Zhe!

Yao Wangui slowly reformed his imposing manner as he asked his questions, once again regaining his cold aura.

Yao Feng bit his lip, saying, “Big brother, you don’t actually think this Yao Chen can be a threat to me? Although he might be gifted, but as a nine star Dou Zhe he’s nothing to be worried about.”

“Don’t forget, he can borrow the power of the Violet Flame Pill and boost himself for a short period to release the power of a Da Dou Shi. In addition, he has already advanced to be a three star Dou Shi.” Yao Wangui coldly replied. “The Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique… while its Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame is difficult to advance in, once you advance you would directly be promoted to three star. With this strength, he isn’t that far behind. Before he had a kind of seal putting pressure on him, but now that that seal is broken….”

What Yao Wangui didn’t say was that if Yao Chen was already a three star Dou Shi today, just what level would he be after three days?

Yao Wangui’s intuition told him that with just the short three days of recuperation before the final battle of the Medicine Competition, Yao Chen might not just reach his peak state. His purpose in practicing his refining right now might be because the seal had been placed on him for too long, and by practicing his refining he wanted to persevere and continue to increase his strength. Three days later, Yao Chen might even become a four star… or it might even be possible for him to become a five star Dou Shi. As for the three star Dou Shi Yao Feng, could he even compete him then?

News that Yao Chen had refined the Violet Flame Pill for Liao Yuntu spread, and a crowd immediately formed outside Yao Chen’s family’s courtyard. Members from various sects and families with close relationships or blood ties to the Yao clan all came over. However since Yao Chen was in the Medicine Competition’s final eight, they wouldn’t dare to bother him before the Medicine Competition ended. Because they didn’t dare bother him, the Luo family ended up being the focus of everybody.

However, the only one present was little fatty Luo….

Luo Bing couldn’t return home, and the eldest son Luo Shan had received a mission from the clan and had to immediately leave. As for Luo Shu, it could be said he was suffering as he was in a tangle of people who wanted him to help talk to Yao Chen to buy the Violet Flame Pill. But saying he was bursting with happiness was also not incorrect; many people were inviting him to have a meal with them. In Luo Shu’s entire life, the one thing he was most interested in was the pleasure of eating.

But after Yao Chen helped Liao Yuntu refine three Violet Flame Pills, he ended up going back into seclusion. While Luo Shu was eating, he couldn’t help but to worry that he would end up like he did the last time when he secluded himself for the whole month without anyone seeing even his shadow.

Tomorrow was the Medicine Competition’s final battle. At noon, Luo Shu had just finished eating his lunch when he anxiously walked over to Yao Chen’s home. Looking at the hurriedly locked front door, Luo Shu patted his stomach, becoming increasingly worried. At the Medicine Competition’s opening ceremony, Yao Chen had only barely managed to arrive on time with a weak complexion. If tomorrow he also came that way… just as Luo Shu was hesitating as to whether or not he should enter and remind Yao Chen, the door opened.

“Aunt Qing! You came back home!”

Luo Shu eyes bulged with surprise as he joyously cried, “Aunt Qing, brother Chen entered into the Medicine Competitions final eight, tomorrow is the final battle, and also, aunt Qing, brother Chen he….”

Yao Qing chuckled, “I already know. You came to look for Yao Chen right? You can come in. He should be coming out of seclusion soon.

“Ha, great! I was actually just worried that he wouldn’t be able to make it to the final battle tomorrow.” Luo Shu scratched his head in embarrassment. “Uh, aunt Qing, over the past two days, there were a couple of people who invited me to go eat, uh….”

Yao Qing faintly smiled, saying “It should be for the Violet Flame Pill right? Of course it’s no problem; it’s just that everything will have to wait until after the Medicine Competition before we discuss it.” Yao Chen was already a Dou Shi, and he was one of the members of the Medicine Competitions final eight; naturally he didn’t have to be worried about his future training resources. However if he wanted to rely just on that status to be a towering figure within the clan then it would not be sufficient as a foundation. That’s why the Violet Flame Pill still presented an opportunity.

Fatty Luo sighed in relief. “I’ll go find brother Chen, hehe.”

Luo Shu rushed over to Yao Chen’s bedroom and saw Yao Chen arranging a pile of medicinal ingredients. He was making his final preparations for tomorrow’s final battle.

“Brother Chen, these medicinal ingredients…” When Luo Shu saw the medicinal ingredients he couldn’t help but to be shocked. Most of these medicinal ingredients were ones he had only ever heard the names of or seen pictures of. He had never before personally seen these precious ingredients.

“These are two years worth of preparations.” Yao Chen raised his head as he laughed at Luo Shu, but his heart felt slightly sour. Of these medicinal ingredients, less than half were acquired by him trading medicinal pills or trading merit points in the clan treasury. Most of them were all obtained by his mother’s gathering skill outside the clan. Who knew just how much his mother had to suffer. All this, just for his once chance to win the Medicine Competition!

“Brother Chen… what are you planning on refining for the final battle? Not a fifth tier pill right?”

Looking at the pile of rare medicinal ingredients, Luo Shu didn’t think they were for a fourth tier pill. But how was it possible for a nine star Dou Zhe to refine a fifth tier pill? Just refining a third tier pill would be difficult, and refining a fourth tier pill would be a miracle… in his opinion, the reason Yao Wanhuo didn’t give Yao Chen an alchemist title was because Yao Chen’s Dou Qi level was too low.

Yao Chen laughed, shaking his head.

Looking at Yao Chen shaking his head, Luo Shu became relieved, smiling, “Don’t overexert yourself. Refining another fourth tier pill is enough.”

Yao Chen narrowed his piercing eyes, “What fourth tier pill? I’m going to refine the Seven Pith Pill.”

    “WHAT! Seven Pith Pill?”

Luo Shu mouth opened wide. Looking at Yao Chen’s serious expression, he was totally unable to collect himself.

The Seven Pith Pill was a genuine sixth tier medicinal pill!

    “Who!?”

Just at this moment, Yao Qing’s cry came from outside, and a gust of wind blew by.

Yao Chen’s expression changed. Waving his hand he collected the table’s medicinal ingredients into his Storage Ring and rushed out. Arriving at the courtyard, he saw his mother who had stopped just outside.

“Mother, what happened? Nothing’s wrong right?” Yao Chen anxiously asked.

“Nothing’s wrong, it’s just a little thief.” Yao Qing shook her head slightly.

A thief? Yao Chen’s eyebrows knit together… since when did the Yao clan’s territory have thieves? And even if there were, his family was so poor that they had nothing that a thief would be attracted to.

Was it for the Violet Flame Pill? Not possible; they were already too late, so why would they rush in?

Yao Chen analyzed it from every angle, but he couldn’t find one reasonable answer.

However, Yao Chen didn’t notice that Yao Qing’s expression from the beginning to end was extremely solemn. “Chen-er, you must be extremely careful for the final battle.”

Yao Chen laughed, “Don’t worry mother. While the Seven Pith Pill might be difficult for other people, for me it isn’t a problem.”

The most difficult part of refining a Seven Pith Pill was in the control of the merger; all the different medicinal ingredients required a different temperature. The Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique along with Yao Chen’s tyrannically strong Spiritual Perception were perfectly suited for the needed control.

Yao Qing shook her head in a way that no one noticed. She wanted to say something more to Yao Chen, but in the end she just lightly laughed, “Fine, I might just be thinking too much.”

In the Yao clan, if clansmen had disputes they would simply go to the clan’s ancestral hall for judging. Even if it was an enmity that couldn’t be resolved without one of them dying, it would be settled in a duel. It would be unlikely for someone to take action in the dark. If they ended up crossing the clan’s bottom line, once they did then they would end up severely punished by the punishment hall. Therefore no one would dare to cross over this line.

However, Yao Qing seemed to forget that there were some people who weren’t afraid of the punishment hall… such as the punishment hall’s chief.

The day of the final battle, tens of thousands of people came to watch the arena. Of the people that came from outside the clan to watch, only a couple thousand were in this crowd.

Fatty Luo scanned the crowd and was disappointed to see that the little princess of the demon clan didn’t show up. The only representative of the demon clan was the Sacred Daughter.

However right now wasn’t the time for him to be thinking about the little princess. Instead, Luo Shu’s entire attention was on the arena for the final battle.

The final eight disciples attending this time were already standing in their places on the arena. Yao Chen’s position was arranged to be right next to Yao Feng. Yao Chen and Yao Feng; one came from a declining branch family; one was a main bloodline genius. There had never before been any interaction between the two of them.

At this moment Yao Chen was extremely calm and collected. Tens of thousands of gazes were staring at him, but they only felt like gentle breezes sweeping past him. Two years ago, his mother had been forcefully kicked out the doors of the main bloodlines. This memory made Yao Chen’s determination even more resolute.

The sixth tier Seven Pith Pill… after taking it, for two hours it would immensely increase flame attribute Dou Qi’s sensitivity, and moreover it would increase the Spiritual Perception by a large amount. This kind of increase would weaken after a certain time period, but it would only decrease to a certain level before stabilizing. If you trained properly, your Spiritual Perception would be permanently raised to the stabilized level.

In the entire Yao clan, medicinal pills that could permanently increase Spiritual Perception were few in number, and when it came to pills like the Seven Pith Pill that did it in a safe and secure way, there were even fewer.

However, even a nine star Da Dou Shi would find refining the Seven Pith Pill extremely difficult. The failure rate was very high, and it would be more worthwhile to use the medicinal ingredients for a higher level medicinal pill with a greater effect.

It was precisely due to how difficult the Seven Pith Pill was to refine that Yao Chen had spent two years preparing. He had collected its ingredients and also suffered through the pain of the medicinal bath hundreds of times. All of this was for today. Today he would refine a perfect Seven Pith Pill. Once he did he would truly have amazed everyone.

    As for failure….

Yao Chen didn’t bother thinking about it. Dwelling on thoughts of failure before a battle would just weaken your spirit. The main bloodline’s geniuses might become calmer if they thought about the consequences of failure.... but Yao Chen had been born in a declining branch family. Only by sharpening his mind and charging forward courageously could he have the chance to win. After all, what he was after wasn’t the clan’s resources or attention, but it was….

Leaving his name on the Clan Monument!

He wanted to seize the title of the Medicine Competition’s first place!

Yao Chen’s eyes were like burning torches as he stared at the distant enormous stone monument. Each named carved on top of it was something people yearned for, each with a legendary story that would move and thrill people. In addition, after each name were the names of their mother and father, so this honor and glory included them as well.

The final wish of his father was something Yao Chen would never forget.

What Yao Chen didn’t notice at all was that Yao Feng’s expression was a bit different today and he would occasionally doubtingly look over at Yao Chen in a hesitant manner.

Outside the arena, Yao Qing was distantly watching her son. Yao Chen had grown up to look more and more like his father, however it was certain that her son’s future prospects would definitely be better than his father’s. Over these two years, everything that Yao Chen had suffered through was for refining the Seven Pith Pill. Everything, all his preparations, all of it was for today. Today he would shine.

He was already prepared to make his name during this fight.

Clan head Yao Dan now stood up. He merely said a few perfunctory words to announce the start of the final battle before sitting back down.

Outside the arena, the representatives of the various clans and powers were all somewhat flabbergasted. They had all expected a long speech about the history of the Yao clan. But instead he had just barely spoken a few meaningless words.

The demon clan’s Sacred Daughter laughed merrily. “Look, that’s how a clan head should act.”

As for what she was referring to, it immediately caused the granny who followed her to scold, “Exalted Sacred Daughter, this time I’ll pretend I didn’t hear anything….”

Obviously the mighty leader of this particular demon clan was someone who often made long speeches.

The Sacred Daughter simply rolled her eyes as she cheerfully turned to look a Yao Chen in the arena. She didn’t have very much interest in Yao Feng. Someone born in a high position would never lack resources, so standing on top this stage was nothing unusual. If someone who was nurtured like that was still unable to stand out, then they would simply be trash in the demon clan!

But Yao Chen was clearly someone without that any support. She had already heard about him. He was born in a poor branch family and his family only had his mother to support it. It could be said that he basically had no status.

“Granny, I think that if we had the opportunity, we could take him back to the clan… yeah, looking at his age, it’s right at the time of his first awakenings of love… maybe little Qing would sacrifice herself for him?”

“Sacre-… exalted Sacred Daughter, I…” Behind her, a beautiful tender servant girl expression drastically changed.

“Aiya, the human race’s alchemists have such high prospects…” The Sacred Daughter actually wanted to trick her own servant. Amongst her four servants, little Qing was the only one who was perfectly beautiful. As for herself, how could she do it herself? She was the Sacred Daughter!

    “Exalted Sacred Daughter!”

The Dou Qi on granny’s body was subtly fluctuating. It was like an enormous mountain had fallen into a calm lake.

“Ok, ok, no more joking around. However if he should end up failing during the Medicine Competition, it might just be our demon clan’s opportunity.”

“That kind of matter will be dealt with by other people. Exalted Sacred Daughter, please pay more attention to your words. Keep them within line of your status as the Sacred Daughter.”

“It’s not like I wanted to be the Sacred Daughter.”

The Sacred Daughter indifferently shrugged her shoulders. However, sensing granny’s tyrannical breath, she also restrained herself.

At this time, the final battle had already begun. However no one immediately began refining. Instead they started checking their medicinal ingredients and their medicinal cauldron’s condition. This was a huge battle that could affect their life’s destiny. Everyone had to do all they could and use all their strength in order to compete, while also ruling out any unexpected accidents.

Other than Yao Chen, the other seven were not using the gold essence medicinal cauldron provided by the clan, but using high grade medicinal cauldrons they had already prepared. A good medicinal cauldron had a large increase on the efficiency of refining.

But Yao Chen naturally could only use the Medicine Competition’s gold essence medicinal cauldron. This gold essence medicinal cauldron was already the best cauldron he had ever used.

Feeling the medicinal cauldron, he almost fell in love with it so much that he didn’t want to part with it. As for Yao Feng who was beside him, he was using the Green Dragon Soul Cauldron. Yao Chen didn’t even bother looking at it, as this ancient dragon cauldron was elder Yao Wuhuang’s possession.

“Haha, Yao Chen, how about I lend you this ancient Preserving Fire Cauldron for you to use.”

At this moment, Yao Feng suddenly turned to talk to Yao Chen.

Yao Chen was startled. The Preserving Fire Cauldron was the Yao clan’s standard high grade medicinal cauldron. Following in line with the Yao clan’s Medicinal Cauldron House’s supervision, each ancient cauldron had the manufacturer’s symbol on it. Although it was a standard cauldron, it naturally would not be something a declining branch family was able to buy.

“Many thanks, but the Preserving Fire Cauldron is a bit too high tier for me so I might not be able to use it very well.” Yao Chen smiled, tactfully turning it down. In his heart he couldn’t help but to form a good opinion of Yao Feng. Looking at his smiling face, although he was a talented main bloodline disciple, he still had such a magnanimous and generous air.

However this battle was too important for him, so there was no way he would let this good opinion hold him back. Not only would this battle completely change his future’s destiny, but it was also for his father!

Yao Feng’s eyes flashed. He laughed, “The gold essence medicinal cauldron is not bad, however I still feel like the Preserving Fire Cauldron would still be better. How about this: since I’m not using it I’ll just place it here to your side. If you feel like you need it, then feel free to take it over and use it.

Saying this, Yao Feng walked over beside Yao Chen, and waving his hand he took out an ancient, blazingly glorious medicinal cauldron from his Storage Ring and he placed it beside Yao Chen.

Boom… Yao Chen only saw a red light. The Preserving Fire Cauldron’s innate fire cloud dazzled and bewildered him.

“Haha, I’ll just place it here. As for whether or not you want to use it, it’s up to you.”

Yao Feng silently and stealthily placed his hand on Yao Chen’s arranged medicinal ingredients. Gently pressing down, he once again laughed before returning back to his position.

Yao Chen shook his head. He was already decided that he would just use the golden essence medicinal cauldron. He didn’t know whether he could bring out the Preserving Fire Cauldron’s incredibly high nature, so it was better to not overextend his abilities.

At this time there was already someone who had finished their preparations. Their Dou Qi ignited their medicinal cauldron’s flame to officially begin their refinement.

Almost as if by arrangement, everyone else almost immediately also started their pill refinements.

The Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame puffed into existence from Yao Chen’s hand. Pairing with the medicinal cauldron, a three-colored flame ignited at the bottom of the cauldron, causing the furnace’s temperature to rise to a certain temperature. Yao Chen took a deep breath suddenly grabbing a set of medicinal ingredients he had arranged on the table. Casting them into the medicinal cauldron, Yao Chen’s Spiritual Perception suddenly exploded out, giving him a precise awareness. Pairing perfectly with his Dou Qi, the interior’s temperature which had changed due to the opening of the lid as well as the reactions of different medicinal ingredients’ properties interacting were all controlled in a perfect and complete manner. The medicinal strength was slowly being extracted out before being collected together. Once again the medicinal ingredients’ essences began to react with another, but the Dou Qi separated and controlled them. They couldn’t be allowed to react together immediately. Instead he had to wait for specific medicinal ingredients to be thrown in before advancing in the merger.

Every single step was performed by Yao Chen in a completely perfect manner. His condition today seemed to be assisted by a god. Not even a bit of his Spiritual Perception was wasted, and his Dou Qi paired with it perfectly, allowing it to perform everything required.

Rumble.... Inside the medicinal cauldron, an explosive rumbling noise rang out. This was an unavoidable reaction when refining a high tier medicinal pill. A sixth tier medicinal pill was already outside the category of ordinary pills. Heaven and earth would fear its refinement, and when it was born, a lightning tribulation would occur.

The ability to handle the lightning tribulation was an important test of the alchemist’s calibre. How well you handled the lightning tribulation reflected whether your strength was strong or weak, if your abilities were high or low.

Strong experts could transform the tribulation’s energy to become a part of the pill’s energy. As for comparatively weaker people, they could split apart the lightning tribulation. One part would be eliminated with by Dou Qi, while the other portion would be transformed into pill calamity, and using a kind of mysterious method they would let the pill experience the calamity, and thus increase the medicinal pill’s quality.

Obviously Yao Chen was incapable of either of these methods. His Dou Qi was not strong enough to eliminate lightning tribulation, and as for transforming the calamity’s energy, that was something that required a Dou Wang class Dou Qi.

The method Yao Chen decided on was a third technique that he had found within the clan. It required splitting your attention in two to refine dual pills in the furnace. The second pill used Transforming Calamity Grass and Cross Calamity Grass. Doing so had a certain chance of letting the pill not suffer the lightning calamity’s influence. Of course, this kind of refinement meant that the quality of the pill would lack spiritual nature so at most it would be middle grade.

But the precise technique Yao Chen was using was somewhat different from the technique that existed in the clan. Other than the Transforming Calamity Grass and the Crossing Calamity Grass, he also used a large amount of Tiger Flame Grass. The Tiger Flame Grass’ special properties when paired with his Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique’s Dou Qi could overbearingly control the Transforming Calamity Grass and Crossing Calamity Grass’ medicinal nature, allowing them to form a second pill embryo within the medicinal cauldron. When the Seven Pith Pill’s lightning tribulation was at its peak, he would cast the embryo into the lightning tribulation. This would expend some of its energy and then would transfer the remaining lightning tribulation energy into the Seven Pith Pill, raising its pill quality.

The thunder tribulation was just starting at this time, and Yao Chen had already thrown the Transforming Calamity Grass and Crossing Calamity Grass into the cauldron along with the Tiger Flame Grass. The formation of this second pill required him to split his attention in two and took up a third of his flame attribute Dou Qi.

In just an extremely short time Yao Chen’s forehead was covered in sweat and his eyes had turned red. This was a sign he had pushed himself to his limit.

However it wasn’t just Yao Chen. The other seven people had also reached critical moments in their refinements and they each had to make an absolute all-out effort.

But if asked who was most eye-catching, it was of course Yao Chen. The rumbling and booming noises coming from the pill in his cauldron revealed the lightning tribulation. It caused people to be fascinated and shocked. That meant he was refining was a sixth tier medicinal pill!

Barely fifteen years old yet he dared to refine a sixth tier pill! Was he simply reckless or was he actually at such a high skill level?

“No matter what happens, the fact is that this child managed to refine to the point of lightning tribulation. Even if in the end he fails, he stills counts as a talented genius. As expected of someone from a branch family whose ancestor carved his name into the Clan Monument. That talent had been passed onto this generation and it looks like it’s now time for them to rise up as well.” The clan school’s elder Yao Lan faintly smiled. He knew that not anyone who was refining a sixth tier pill could cause lightning tribulation. Perhaps the medicinal essence would yet to even begin to merge before they would receive the judgement of heaven and earth, often causing a cauldron explosion.

On the other side representing the punishment hall’s stage, Yao Wangui’s eyes bulged slightly. It was out of his expectations that Yao Chen’s refining skills were at such a level. However looking at his appearance, Yao Chen’s energy was already maxed out, and it seemed clear that it wasn’t enough to let him complete his refinement.

“What a shame; if this kid was a Dou Shi he might actually have shocked everyone here with his performance.” Yao Wanhuo warmly said, shaking his head. To have branch family disciples rise up was not a bad thing in his opinion. The main bloodline’s disciples had already taken such a large share of the resources that some of them had started to slack off. Having one or two branch family talents appear to compete with them was definitely something that needed to be done.

“Haha, Wanhuo, his performance right now is already not bad, and in the future we can let Yao Lan….” clan head Yao Dan had been dimly smiling, however he suddenly stopped.

An explosive sound suddenly came out from Yao Chen’s body. The roaring sounds were like the sound of chains that were smashing against each other.

    CRACK!

    Seal! Broken!

The seal that his mother had placed on his body at this moment completely disintegrated!

BOOMBOOMBOOM!!! The Dou Qi on Yao Chen’s body explosively broke out, suddenly reaching the level of a three star Dou Shi.

    “Open!”

Yao Chen gently shouted, and the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame’s Dou Qi which had increased by about twenty times rushed into the medicinal cauldron, quickly urging on the reaction between the Transforming Calamity Grass, Crossing Calamity Grass, and the Tiger Flame Grass. Under the control of his Spiritual Perception, a light purple-colored pill embryo slowly started to form.

Just as this pill embryo formed, the thunder tribulation which had been becoming stronger and stronger started to fade away. At this time, Yao Chen let out a couple of relaxed breaths. All he had to do now was follow a set procedure. His mother’s seal on his body’s Dou Qi had finally been broken, giving him an unprecedented carefree feeling, making him feel more relaxed than he ever had before. Under this kind of state, it was practically guaranteed that there would be no more problems.

Moreover, the thing that made him the most relaxed was that the potential that had been burned two years ago had already been recovered. The two years of bitterness from the medicinal baths was apparently not a waste.

This kind of feeling was fantastic, and Yao Chen’s face had a faint smile on it, until his hand suddenly felt a piece of Stardust Grass….

His smile all of sudden fell and hardened.

    Impossible!

How could it be Stardust Grass!

It should be Starry Heavens Grass!

Stardust Grass and Starry Heavens Grass were born the same, but their medicinal properties were completely opposite! Stardust Grass’ nature was cold, while Starry Heavens Grass was heat natured!

Two years worth of preparation as well as hundreds of times checking... Yao Chen was absolutely sure that Stardust Grass was not amongst his medicinal ingredients!

Actually, the Seven Pith Pill was a completely heat natured medicinal pill, so over the two years Yao Chen had never collected any cold natured medicinal ingredients. This Stardust Grass… just where could it have come from?

Yao Chen quickly scanned the table’s arranged medicinal ingredients, but amongst them… there was no Starry Heavens Grass.

“Impossible, impossible, how could it be like this, impossible….”

Yao Chen’s entire person was completely dumbfounded. Without the Starry Heavens Grass, the Seven Pith Pill would never take shape.

It was already a critical moment at this time. Delaying any further would cause the Seven Pith Pill’s medicinal nature’s crucial point to pass, and it would be a complete failure.

    “Impossible.”

Yao Chen blankly stared, not knowing what to do. Suddenly his gaze passed over Yao Feng’s table which had a large amount of Starry Heavens Grass.

Yao Chen’s face abruptly whitened, recalling how Yao Feng had suddenly come over to his table….

    “It was you!”

Yao Chen shouted loudly, and was about to throw himself onto Yao Feng.

    “Stop!”

Just at this moment, a figure suddenly blocked Yao Chen, a Da Dou Shi Iron Guard of the clan. Creasing his brows, he said, “Please do not interfere with other people’s refining.”

A secret soft sound passed over to Yao Chen, “Yao Chen, what are you doing? Hurry up and return to refine; don’t break the clan rules!”

    Chapter 14 Banished

Although this particular Iron Guard didn’t know Yao Chen’s father very well, he was aware that he was someone who had sacrificed his life in his position as an Iron Guard. Naturally the Iron Guard wouldn’t treat Yao Chen badly, and he even went out of his way to show consideration for him by secretly reminding Yao Chen not to lose his cool.

However, Yao Chen had difficulty calming down in his current state. Just how could he take these words to heart? Two years worth of preparations, two years of suffering, two years of living under a seal… everything had been for today’s success! However some scum had exchanged his medicinal ingredients which would now cause him to fail at this last moment… not being able to hold back his anger he shouted, “He stole and switched out my medicinal ingredient!”

“Don’t speak nonsense. This whole course of events was secretly monitored by me and I can guarantee there wasn’t such a thing.” The Iron Guard frowned and his voice was much stricter now. He had already given a reminder so it could be considered he had given enough face at this point, but now Yao Chen’s words were just completely irrational, making it difficult for him to behave with extra sincerity. The entire Medicine Competition’s events were all being watched by countless people. Attempting to steal and switch out a medicinal ingredient… let alone Yao Feng, even a Dou Sheng would find it impossible under everyone’s gazes!

    BOOM!!!

Just at this moment, Yao Chen’s medicinal cauldron suddenly started to rumble, and jet-black smoke started to puff out, bringing with it a thick burnt smell. Without the Starry Heavens Grass’ medicinal nature, the various medicinal ingredients had lost their equilibrium and collapsed.

Yao Chen turned to look at, and a dizzy spell came over him. Once again turning back to the Iron Guard in his way, he just didn’t know what to do.

“No, if it weren’t for him switching out my Starry Heavens Grass and replacing it with Stardust Grass…” All his hopes, in the final moment before his success, ended up being crushed. It took all he had just to maintain his reason….

With a raging bellow he tried to get past the Iron Guard and rush at Yao Feng!

Only now did he realize that Yao Feng’s fake excuse of lending him the Preserving Fire Cauldron’s actual goal was to switch out his medicinal ingredient. And he had actually succeeded!

At this time, two figures appeared beside Yao Chen, the punishment hall’s chief Yao Wangui and the extremely prestigious elder Yao Wanhuo.

“Who let him act out like this? Hurry up and take him down the arena.” Yao Wangui indifferently told the Iron Guard, not even looking at Yao Chen.

“Yes. Yao Chen.” The Iron Guard signalled Yao Chen with his eyes, hinting at him to go down, which at least could be considered as giving face.

“I can go down, but how will Yao Feng’s stealing of my Starry Heavens Grass be taken care of?”

“What are these lies? Yao Chen, before you speak you should consider running the words through your head before opening your mouth.” Only now did Yao Wangui coldly stare at Yao Chen, his mouth curling slightly in complete contempt.

Yao Chen ground his teeth, but his rage was too strong and he continued speaking, “Please can these various elders examine whether Yao Feng really stole and switched out my medicinal ingredients.”

    “Good! You really are reckless!”

Yao Wangui beckoned with his hand, and three Iron Guards appeared beside him. These three Iron Guards’ attire was clearly different from that of the first Iron Guard. On top the ordinary robes were special symbols that had been drawn with a secret technique. These were the inner Iron Guards who were part of the punishment hall, and furthermore their strength had reached at least that of a Dou Wang.

“You three, was there any cheating or fraud?”

“Chief, there was definitely no cheating- this kid’s words are complete nonsense.”

The three Dou Wang Iron Guards expressions were like snakes- icy and cold. It was their responsibility to secretly guard and prevent fraud from occurring in this arena. If Yao Chen’s accusation of Yao Feng replacing his medicinal ingredient ended up being correct then the three of them would lose quite a bit of merit this year, and their techniques and resources would fall behind their peers. Therefore Yao Chen’s persistence in this matter caused the three of them to feel quite a bit of hatred towards him, so naturally they would not give him credit.

“Impossible.” Yao Chen’s expression turned from ashen to white. He knew that the important Medicine Competition had people secretly patrolling so that no one could commit fraud, but if it wasn’t Yao Feng who stole his medicinal ingredient… then just how could his Starry Heavens Grass become Stardust Grass?

“What? You want to insult us by saying we can’t do our own jobs?” The three Dou Wang Iron Guards’ gaze became even more icy cold.

    “I….”

“Trying to find excuses for your own failure isn’t wrong, it’s just human nature. But you actually slandered your own clan. As the chief of the punishment hall, this is something that I absolutely won’t allow to occur.”

After Yao Wangui said his frosty words, he turned towards the distant elder’s high stage and cupped his hands, before once again coldly admonishing Yao Chen, “Under my authority as chief of the punishment hall, I banish you from the clan. Within thirty years you are not allowed to step foot within the clan’s territory. You can choose to atone for your crimes with some meritorious acts, or you can just choose to degenerate from now on, but you absolutely are not allowed to consider yourself as one of the Yao clan for the next thirty years. If such a thing becomes known, then there will no longer be a place for you in this world. Someone come and bring him down.”

    BOOM!

Two more Iron Guards suddenly appeared on top the stage. Sandwiching Yao Chen between them, they forcibly brought him down the stage.

It was very evident they were disgracing him in front of all the eyes of crowd.

On top the stage, elder Yao Lan’s mouth was gaping, and turning towards First Elder Yao Wanhuo, he whispered, “First Elder, this child’s talent is quite good, and although he was a bit violent and unruly, it isn’t enough to kick him out the Yao clan….”

Yao Wanhuo knit his forehead, but in the end didn’t say anything. The clan had its own equilibrium, and ever since Yao Wangui had become chief of the punishment hall, he had not had many opportunities to give him face. If at this time he decided to open his mouth it was true that he could protect Yao Chen, but this would inevitably cause a conflict between the First Elder’s side and the punishment hall’s side. This kind of conflict had quite a large effect on the Yao clan’s prosperity… was it worth it for just a branch family disciple with a bit of talent?

Yao Lan once again spoke, “Elder, this child should indeed be punished, but why not just let him atone for his crimes by forcing him into seclusion meditation and refining the Violet Flame Pill for ten years? We can’t just because of a bit violence expel someone out the clan; this would cause the people to feel like we are too cold.”

Yao Wanhuo glanced at Yao Lan; although Yao Lan was just the lowest level of elder as a clan school elder, within the clan he was the undisputed best at teaching alchemy to children. Since he had actually decided to successively speak out, this face was something he could still give.

“Cough, Wangui, isn’t expelling him from the clan a bit too heavy of a punishment? How about switching it to isolation and refining?” Yao Wanhuo faintly said, extending his hand.

“For elder Yao Wanhuo to open his mouth, he must have already considered the matter carefully. But as for my punishment being too heavy, I’m afraid that I didn’t come to it for no reason. It’s simply that Yao Chen is notorious for his crimes, and not expelling him from the clan would harm the general mood of the clansmen.”

    “Notorious for his crimes?”

Yao Wanhuo turned his head to look at Yao Lan.

Yao Lan looked blankly, also not knowing just what crimes Yao Wangui was talking about. In his knowledge, for the past two years Yao Chen had always been conscientious and low profile; he had never caused any kind of incidents.

    “You guys, come up.”

Yao Wangui waved his hand and a couple youngsters walked over from the side.

“You guys, report the words you told me yesterday to the elders.”

“Yes, reporting to the elders, some time ago we personally saw Yao Chen steal top grade Tiger Flame Grass.”

“Tiger Flame Grass?” Yao Wanhuo immersed himself in his memories; the clan treasury was extremely short on Tiger Flame Grass since any new supplies were all directly taken away by elder Yao Xiao. Apparently he was trying to refine an eighth tier medicinal pill, and the Tiger Flame Grass was the best medicinal ingredient for merging their medicinal properties. For Yao Chen to be able to take out Tiger Flame Grass at this time as a poor branch family was indeed suspicious.

“Yes, we personally saw Yao Chen steal Tiger Flame Grass from elder Xiao.”

“You bastards, this top grade Tiger Flame Grass was clearly given to him be my big brother. Elders, my big brother happened upon a large amount of Tiger Flame Grass a month ago outside the clan. This is also recorded within the clan treasury’s notes.”

The fatty Luo Shu had jumped up. Just now he had almost been scared stupid, but now he had recovered and loudly defended Yao Chen.

“This was also investigated by me. According to the notes left by Luo Shan, he handed over all his Tiger Flame Grass and didn’t keep any for himself.” Yao Wangui indifferently replied. Apparently he had long since made his preparations.

“Impossible!” Luo Shu stood blankly, repeatedly shouting.

“You decided to speak without even knowing the whole story. Since it was for your friend, I won’t bring up how you brought up all this hubbub to your seniors, but the next time you open your mouth you better remember to ask permission from your superiors,” Yao Wangui coldly said.

Luo Shu’s face whitened, and while he wanted to refute him, he didn’t know what to say. Yao Wangui’s body was emitting an aura that made him feel extremely terrified, and his father and brother had just received a mission from the clan yesterday so they had both left the clan, making them unable to bear witness for Yao Chen. Obviously nobody would believe him if he tried to speak for them.

At this time, the few degenerates of the clan school started telling a vivid and colorful story of how they had seen Yao Chen sneak out from near elder Yao Xiao’s estate. They had followed him and finally identified him before being driven away by his mother. After thinking about it for a month and not seeing Yao Chen come out to confess his crimes, they ended up deciding to go to the punishment hall to report it.

“Originally we thought that he would surrender himself to the punishment hall once he realized that we knew about it, but he unexpectedly continued acting calm and innocent like he was greater than the heavens, and only then did we decide we had to report it to the punishment hall. We can’t allow filth to pollute our Yao clan’s morals.”

Yao Wangui waved his hands that the youngsters all gallantly bowed with vigor before shooting a glance at Yao Chen and withdrawing.

“Yao Chen, it’s not like I didn’t give you a chance. Looking at your talented performance at the Medicine Competition, I had wanted to suppress this, but you actually crazily accused a clan member of stealing your medicinal ingredients as an excuse for your failed refinement. This is too selfish for us to allow you to continue staying in the clan. Do you have anything to say for yourself?”

Being forcibly pressed down in midair from his left and right by the Iron Guards, Yao Chen’s whole body was already trembling. With black and white mixed up and with no way to argue, it wouldn’t make a different whatever he said. Only three words came out from his tightly clenched teeth: “It wasn’t me!”

“Bring him down. You have twelve hours. Leave the Yao clan; otherwise you will be considered a rebel.”

Yao Chen’s whole body shook; twelve hours and he had to leave the Yao clan?

Turning his head around, the seven disciples remaining were still refining their medicinal pills, and amongst them Yao Feng especially hadn’t even turned his head to pay attention here.

At this time, the two Iron Guards simultaneously forced Yao Chen down, continuing in that manner the entire mountain path until they reached Yao Chen’s house before throwing him down to the ground.

One of them coldly reminded him, “Twelve hours.”

Yao Chen crawled back up on his arms only to see his home’s door open and his mother come out with concerned questioning expression.

    “Chen-er what happened?”

“Mother….” Seeing his mother, Yao Chen’s heart felt indescribably panicked and he didn’t know just where to start explaining. The two iron Guards glanced at each other before coldly answering, “Yao Chen is guilty of severe crimes and has been banished out of the Yao clan by the punishment hall. You are his mother? You have twelve hours to say goodbye. If after twelve hours he is still here, the Yao clan will treat it as a crime worthy of the death penalty.”

After saying that, the two Iron Guards still didn’t leave and instead took up position outside the house. Obviously they were the people in charge of his banishment.

Yao Qing felt so dizzy it was like the sky was spinning and the earth was moving beneath her. Yao Chen had been expelled from the clan?

    “Crime? What crime?”

The two Iron Guards didn’t respond again, and within their eyes was only a cold and detached indifference to anything outside executing their mission.

Yao Qing understood this so she no longer questioned them, instead pulling on Yao Chen she asked, “What happened?”

    “Mom, I….”

Yao Chen lowered his head as he systematically told her everything that had just happened.

“Mom, it was definitely Yao Feng who switched out my Stardust Grass, otherwise there’s no way I would have failed!”

Yao Qing took a deep breath, and a trace of strange redness appeared on her face.

“So it was actually like this… dumb son, he didn’t switch it, he just dug a trap for you which you stupidly jumped into. The real Stardust Grass… it was that day… cough….”

She only managed to say part of what she wanted before her complexion suddenly turned crimson, and a streak of red blood overflowed from the corner of her mouth.

    “Mom?!”

Yao Qing patted Yao Chen’s head, “Don’t worry, your mom… originally I wanted to see that day, but it looks like I don’t have any more time.”

After these two years, with the pain of losing her husband as well as what she had to invest in Yao Chen, her body had long since started to break down. It was just that no one had known. Previously she had wanted to inform him after his competition, but just in the short time while she gathered medicinal herbs for Yao Chen she had already overdrafted her strength. No longer able to support herself, she had had no choice but to return home midway to rest.

When Yao Chen participated in the Great Competition, it wasn’t that Yao Qing didn’t want to go watch, it was just that she was too weak… every time she would return from outside she was already basically unable to endure it anymore so she would always hide inside the house to heal.

Today, her blood and qi had started to rebel, and she was no longer able to endure. These past two years she had always kept a severe expression on her face for Yao Chen, but now it returned back to her gentle and tender character. Gently holding Yao Chen’s hand, she said, “Chen-er, leaving the clan might actually be an opportunity for you. The main bloodline… haha, with the main bloodline here, even if you were supremely talented there still might not be a place for you. Leaving will be your chance. However, you absolutely must not forget your father’s final wish. You have to become a man capable of supporting heaven and earth, becoming someone that will make everyone present regret what they’ve done to you today….”

“Mom, you should stop talking, stop talking. I know, I know….”

Yao Chen felt like he had been dropped into a hole of ice, his whole body trembling. With every word his mother spoke, more blood would continue overflowing from her mouth.

“Mom can’t take care of you anymore. These are your father’s experiences and notes on refining, inside is… cough….” But after midway,  Yao Qing couldn’t hold it back and a coughing fit overtook her.

    “Mom!”

In a great rush Yao Chen picked up his mom and he carried her in, laying her on a bed for her to rest on.

“Mom, I’ll go find an elder.”

“Don’t. Mom’s illness is something that mom already understands. Make your preparations; take everything in the alchemy room. Remember, when you leave you mustn’t go by the major roads; take the mountain paths. When the main bloodline takes action, they always make sure to eliminate the roots of the problem… don’t wait; while the Medicine Competition is still taking place, hurry and leave now!”

    “But, mom you….”

“Do you want to make me angry enough to die or are you waiting to watch your mom die!”

Yao Chen shuddered, and teardrops started to flow down his face.

“Don’t cry, you’re not allowed to cry. If you want to become a man capable of holding up the heavens and fulfilling your dad’s dying wish… you can’t cry in front of your mom….”

Yao Qing closed her eyes. Her voices became weaker and weaker, and while her words were strict, but her heart was crying inside.

“Immediately prepare your things, and in one hour… by one hour you must leave towards the mountain paths.”

    “Yes mom.”

Yao Chen forcibly calmed down and collected himself. Quickly rushing towards the training room, he collected some food and Soldier Grain Pills into his storage ring, and then from another part of the room he collected a couple pitch-black pill bottles which he carefully arranged before returning to his mother’s room.

The sound of a fragile water drop dripping came out. “Mom, I’m going. Mom… you have to take care of yourself mom….”

“A man’s word must be followed through. If you say you’re leaving then leave now. Mom won’t have any problems, mom will……… hurry and leave.” Yao Qing turned her ahead. At this kind of moment she no longer dared to look at Yao Chen, afraid that she would no longer be able to control herself.

Yao Chen was not stupid. His mother had already cleared up the misleading lies and mystery surrounding what had just happened. He was already extremely clear that the banishment from the clan was only the first step. The people conspiring against him would definitely pull the weeds up by the root. There was definitely a hidden reason for them to give him twelve hours to leave instead of forcing him out immediately.

And so let alone leaving in twelve hours, even leaving now would still be extremely dangerous.

Turning towards his mother on the bed, he kowtowed ten times towards her with all his strength, to the point where even his forehead started to bleed. Borrowing this strength, he charged out his house directly to the path out of the clan.

If he wanted to leave the Yao clan, then he needed to go through a transportation formation. With the Medicine Competition currently underway, there were quite a few Iron Guards supervising.

“Yao Chen? Why did you come here? What happened to you?”

By luck, amongst the Iron Guards was surprisingly someone who had been one of his father’s brothers. Seeing Yao Chen, he questioned him warmly,

“Uncle Dian, it’s hard to explain. If you can help me stop the two Iron Guards behind me from following me outside the clan, in my lifetime I will definitely pay you back greatly in any way I can!”

Being called Uncle Dian by Yao Chen gave this Iron Guard a special feeling. Yao Chen quickly ran into the transport formation. Uncle Dian knew that this must involve some kind of major affair, but looking Yao Chen’s forehead that was covered in blood, he ground his teeth and shouted, “Start the transport formation!”

The various Iron Guards all exchanged glances, but they swiftly start the formation. In the blink of an eye, Yao Chen’s figure faded away till nothing remained.

When he reappeared he was at a different transport formation. An unfamiliar odor assaulted his nose. Yao Chen decided to madly rush in the direction of the major road.

Only after several minutes passed did the two Iron Guards get transported over with a furious expression. Grabbing a disciple who was in charge of this transport formation he vehemently asked, “Just now a kid came through here. Which direction did he go?”

    “Uh… he went north.”

One of the Iron Guards was about to go chasing, but the other person suddenly pulled him back, saying, “Wait a sec, this brat is very tricky. If you and I decide to chase him down in this manner and then lose him, the responsibility would all be ours. We should go back and inform the Punishment Chief. This kind of matter must be done properly by the Punishment Chief’s trusted aides.”

The Iron Guard who had been about to chase after Yao Chen felt his heart grow cold. With this reminder he realized that this kind of issue wasn’t something they should pursue. If they overdid it then they not be able to curry favor with the punishment hall and instead end up being quietly eliminated. Moreover the Punishment Chief might even have follow-up methods to deal with this issue, although this was just a guess of theirs. Their orders were simply to monitor him, and only within the clan. Now that he had left the clan’s territory it naturally meant that their mission was over.

“Don’t worry, I left a trace on him so it can be said we did our part. As for the dirty work, someone else will go deal with it.”

“Good. Let’s go back now and give them our report.”

Chapter 15 Pursued with Killing Intent

    The Shennong Mountain Range.

In the forbidden area of the Yao clan, all kinds of demons and Magical Beasts were everywhere. Clansmen were not normally allowed to approach this area except for set times when they took care of the beasts.

As long as a beast was approaching the level of spiritual wisdom, they could either be seized and tamed back in the clan or exchanged with the demon clan. Or course such an exchange had to have an equal pay, and it was actually this trade that was used to obtain most of the rare and strange medicinal ingredients that only the demon clan could harvest.

Currently there was a squadron of around ten people resting deep within the mountains. Normally such a group’s mission would be to handle any demons or Magical Beasts that had gained spiritual wisdom.

However this particular squadron’s mission was clearly different, as just one hundred or so meters away from them was a beast about to obtain spiritual wisdom, but they simply ignored it and continued to eat their rations.

“We’re already near the boundary; that kid really is sly. We actually came across three of his traps, and even old Ren was tricked by him.” One of people present finally opened their mouth.

“Hmph, it’s just that I was a bit careless is all. Originally we thought this kid had never stepped foot outside the Yao clan and was just a helpless chick. I didn’t expect him to actually have such a profound understanding of the deep mountains.” The person who had been called old Ren was a middle-aged man with messy long hair. Beside his foot was a vicious dog half the size of a man.

“That’s enough! If we can’t finish our mission this time then we might as well just not return.” The ten people stopped talking.

Originally this was a simple chase and kill mission. The order had been passed down by Punishment Chief Yao Wangui’s trusted aide, and although it was not specifically said that it was instructed by Yao Wangui, everyone knew that this mission was appointed by him. If it wasn’t completed… no one dared to continue imagining just what would happen to them if they failed.

“We’ve rested enough. This time we can definitely manage to catch up and capture this kid.”

“I’ll definitely peel off all his skin and pull out all his muscles.”

“Let’s go.” The group quickly moved out, following tiny little hints as small as a spider’s thread.

Time slowly passed. Under the trees where the small squadron had rested were particles of food they had left behind. Groups of ants and insects came and piece by piece brought it back to their nests.

Night came extremely early deep in the mountains. Even just as the sun just went past the mountain line, the forest immediately darkened to the point you where you wouldn’t even be able to see your own fingers. The dense and tall forest of trees seemed voraciously beautiful as they sucked in the last rays of the sun.

At this moment, not very far away, a certain tall tree trunk suddenly burst open and a youngster jumped down. Landing on the ground, he gasped for air. His trembling hands grabbed his water canteen and greedily drank a mouthful before forcibly suppressing his body’s desire to continue drinking.

Although his body was dehydrated, what was needed even more than water were medicinal pills. He quickly took out a gray porcelain bottle from his Storage Ring. Opening and tilting it, two greenish-gray pills rolled out into his hand. Without any hesitation he immediately swallowed them down. The medicinal essence started to dissolve in his stomach, bringing with it a rumbling noise from his stomach. Only after he completed this did he dare to continue drinking from his water canteen, taking in one huge gulp after another till he was completely satisfied.

This youngster was precisely the fleeing Yao Chen.

Several dangerous moments had occurred, but what he relied on to escape them wasn’t some understanding of the mountain. He was only fifteen, and other than refining pills, he didn’t have any other strong points.

The thing that let him repeatedly avoid his chasers were five Suspended Animation Pills his father had left behind. The Suspended Animation Pill would shut down all his bodily organs’ functions. After using the pill, by concealing himself in a tall tree and applying a tasteless, odorless juice that would hide his smell, he became just another lifeless object in the forest.

This method had been taught to him by his father. He had once told him a story about how even a Dou Zun Magical Beast was tricked this way.

Gradually Yao Chen calmed down. This was already the twenty-first sunset since he had left the Yao clan. Every day he would only dare to travel during the night. He knew that the people chasing him would only move during the day, so the night could be used as a cover.

Although the night also hid its own terrors, but when compared to the people chasing him, these terrors could no longer make him afraid.

After these few days, Yao Chen had already learned how to hide any traces of his movement, and he also figured out how he could mislead his enemies. People learned the fastest under a threat of death, even when just relying on themselves without a teacher.

He took out some rations from his Storage Ring and carefully sprinkled a bit in his mouth. If he just dumped it into his mouth then he might leave some tiny traces. Also taking a gulp of water, he tidied up and dexterously started moving again, his footsteps bringing him deeper into the mountain forest.

Every step that he took seemed to be exceptionally light and almost floating. These days he had learnt how to use his Dou Qi to let his body become lighter, and as much as possible he made it so that the grass would not leave any imprints.

The faint imprints his footsteps ended up leaving on his path looked the same as those left behind by a mountain rat. Within the forest, these kinds of imprints were everywhere.

But with this kind of travelling, Yao Chen’s speed could not be considered fast.

Everywhere around him was pitch black, but raising his head he could still a faint glimmer above the treetops. Outside the deep forest, the sun had yet to actually set.

Determining the direction he needed to go, Yao Chen continued his journey.

There were still two Suspended Animation Pills left, however in order to recover himself he needed the Rebirth Pill, and he had already consumed them all. Therefore he had to be even more careful from now on.

Yao Chen didn’t understand why his enemies would want to completely exterminate him, but he was very clear that if he did get caught his ending would definitely be even more miserable than just death.

Although Yao Chen wasn’t afraid of death, he still needed to live on. He still had to carve his father’s name onto the Clan Monument….

When that time came, his mother would definitely smile… his mother’s smile would always bring him joy in his heart.

Reaching this point in his thoughts, Yao Chen’s footsteps became even more quick and agile, and his Spiritual Perception would carefully look back at every imprint he left behind in order to make sure that they only looked like a mountain rat’s and not a person’s.

In this manner, carefully… extremely carefully… he didn’t leave behind any tracks for the people chasing him.

The fifteen-year-old Yao Chen had already learnt much that someone of his age shouldn’t know.

    Nine days later…

“Kid, stand still and don’t run! We don’t have any bad intentions, we’re here to bring you back to the clan. Luo Shan has already returned, we know you didn’t steal the medicinal ingredients…” Within the deep mountain forests, a loud shout rang. Countless startled birds took off and the sound of their flapping wings broke through the mountain forest’s calm.

Yao Chen tightly ground his teeth, doing his absolute best to continue forward. Following behind were three very fast nine star Da Dou Shi Iron Guards who were pursuing him.

Just how could Yao Chen believe their clumsy lies? These people had been chasing him for a month already. From the very first day he entered the deep mountains, they had pursued him. Only after consuming two Suspended Animation Pills had he learned how to avoid them.

Originally everything had been fine, but five days ago, the ten man squadron suddenly split into three groups, each separating out in order to find his traces.

On this day, this three man group had finally caught on to some traces of him.

With his three star Dou Shi strength, Yao Chen madly charged forward as fast as he could, and for a brief period he actually was not slower than his opponents. However, with his opponent’s nine star Da Dou Shi strength, he knew he had no way of escaping now that he was in their range. When his Dou Qi finally ran out… just what could he do?

Within his muddle-headed mind he suddenly recalled a memory of his father pointing at the shadow of a lamp as he laughed, while his mother borrowed the light as she weaved some winter clothes.

    The darkness behind the light.

The more dangerous a place was the more safe it was as well.

According to what his father had said, he shouldn’t have into the deep mountains but instead hidden himself near the Yao clan and then waited for an opportune moment to leave.

However, realizing this now was already too late. But… an incredibly terrifying idea started to emerge in his mind. If danger could also mean safety, then there might actually be a place he could shake off the soldiers chasing him.

Suddenly Yao Chen’s condition took a drastic change for the worse, and a bloody scent came from his heart and lungs, indicating that he had exceeded the amount of Dou Qi he could use. One of his legs tripped and Yao Chen narrowly avoided falling onto the ground.

Although this only delayed him for slight pause, three wind palms whistled with killing intent behind him and Yao Chen could only abruptly roll to the side to avoid it. His unsightly rolling let him avoid the three wind palms. He reoriented himself and started madly running for his life again. His whole body’s Dou Qi was poured into his legs. FASTER, FASTER! Fortunately the three of them had simultaneously released wind palms which had caused them to pause for a brief moment, letting Yao Chen increase the distance between them by a small amount.

“Run as much as you want. Only then will we get the fun of chasing and killing you.” The three Da Dou Shi’s expression became much uglier. All three of them had simultaneously taken action to trap a younger generation Dou Shi but ended up failing. If news of this spread they would likely have no more face.

Of course, if they did catch Yao Chen then what awaited Yao Chen was a life with torture that would be worse than death.

In just a minute, Yao Chen ended up completely exhausted. His body’s limit had long since been exceeded, and not even the slightest trace of Dou Qi could be found in his body now. He fell down with a crashing noise.

In basically no time at all, the three figures shot out like lightning. Splitting up, they surrounded him from all directions.

“Haha, how come you’re not running anymore?”

    “Run, run some more.”

“Haha, in a moment we’ll cut off both your legs and see how you run then.”

The three Da Dou Shi were also panting slightly. These three people were inner guards of the punishment hall and had basically been spoiled as they lived like a prince. Although they had to complete some missions, none of them were as strenuous as this one. For over six hours they had chased him. Just running at full speed was enough to tire them out, let alone running after someone in an obstacle-filled jungle.

The three people all had their doubts; even the three of them with their Da Dou Shi strength felt tired, so just how did an insignificant Dou Shi support himself? Even taking into consideration that he was risking his life, there was definitely a limit. Looking at Yao Chen’s state, he had obviously overextended past that limit by quite a bit.

However, the more they thought about that, the more they confirmed that they couldn’t allow Yao Chen to continue living, as this kid’s future would pose an immense threat.

“Hahaha..... hehehe….” Suddenly Yao Chen started laughing wildly.

“Kid, what are you laughing at!?”

“I’m laughing at how the grand and magnificent Yao clan’s main bloodline is! They would actually decide to completely exterminate a branch family disciple like me. Hahaha, Yao Feng… must die!” Yao Chen ground his teeth, and in his heart he was completely unwilling.

“I’m afraid that the one who must die is you!”

“Everyone tells us that even once they become a ghost they won’t let us off. Do you want to say it too? These kinds of words are something we’ve heard way too many times before.” The three men coldly laughed. At this time they no longer wished to stall so they all simultaneously raised their hands, and a Dou Qi with no attribute roared into being as it prepared to strike Yao Chen. Obviously the three of them didn’t want to use their signature techniques; when doing this kind of work involving silently killing someone, it was best not to leave any signs relating to the Yao clan.

Yao Chen clenched his eyes shut as hard as he could, and in his mind appeared his father’s teaching and his mother’s hopes… all of it, would it end here?

“NO!” BOOM! Just as the three men were simultaneously releasing their Dou Qi, a blazing Dou Flame exploded out of Yao Chen’s body. The Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique had entered into a level of mastery at this moment.

The three sets of Dou Qi met the Dou Flame in an explosive collision, and a strange situation occurred. The three Dou Qi with no attribute under the power of the Dou Flame became sluggish, and unexpectedly began to dissolve and disappear.

    “WHAT!?”

    “What is this?”

“It seems to be similar to a Heavenly Flame. However it’s still much weaker.” The three men all became alarmed, but they once again prepared another blow. This time, they used their entire strength in this blow without the slightest intention of holding back.

The stronger Yao Chen’s performance was, the more they knew that they had to destroy him before he became stronger.

Facing the three of them who were much stronger with their all out blows, he would definitely be destroyed.

Yao Chen bitterly smiled. Although his Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique had reached such a level of mastery, it was already too late. He had already completely exhausted himself and he could only helplessly collapse.

He was unwilling… but so what? Strength- without real strength that could overturn the world, you would just be a powerless little ant. Even if you had some capability, it was only enough strength to beat other ants.

Yao Chen had never before thirsted for strength as much as he did now.

That’s right, if he had had strength… two years ago, no one would have kicked out his mother from their estates while they held precious medicinal ingredients in their hands and his father would not have died… if he had had strength, then how could Yao Feng dare steal his medicinal ingredients… no wait that had been a trap. His medicinal ingredient had already been switched the night before.

The punishment hall… it was the Yao clan’s inner secret spy network. Only these people who lived in the darkness had the ability to perform this kind of secret act in a way that even a ghost wouldn’t know about. Yao Feng’s older brother… was Yao Wangui, the chief of the punishment hall! It was definitely him! He was the one who banished him from the clan with just a single sentence and had prepared some clan school students to make up a fake story to frame him!

At this moment Yao Chen understood everything. A man who was about to die might get an epiphany as he was dying, and now Yao Chen had understood far too much.

“Even if I have to die, I have to bring one down with me.” Yao Chen suddenly charged towards one of the three Da Dou Shi, and his whole body’s remaining Dou Qi transformed into a blazing cone and explosively pierced forward.

The three Da Dou Shi all sneered- this kind of all out last attack from a surrounded beast was something they had seen far too many times already. The three stamped their feet, and their three sets of Dou Qi exploded out. Merging together, their combined attack slammed into Yao Chen.

Yao Chen’s Dou Flame disappeared in the face of their attack and he powerlessly fell down onto the ground with blood continuously spurting out of his mouth.

Would everything end here? Yao Chen’s vision blackened, and he completely lost consciousness.

The three Da Dou Shi were all rather startled; the three of them joined hands to use all their strength in that attack, yet they actually didn’t manage to kill him. They merely seriously injured him.

    “This kid’s body… there’s something unusual.”

“Medicinal bath! I remember now, his branch family’s ancestors had a person whose name is on the Clan Monument; it seems like it was due to the medicinal bath tempering his body.”

“Acting the way he did, he was basically asking for death. With this kid’s Violet Flame Pill along with his medicinal bath, his rise to success would have only been a matter of time. But he actually decided to make things difficult for the young master. Snatching things from the young master is just following his own path to destruction.”

“Shut up! You think these are words that can be said here?”

The punishment hall not only handled the strict security and customs within the clan, but secretly behind the eyes’ of the clansmen it was already completely controlled by Yao Wangui. With the Second Elder’s secret support, the punishment hall had basically become a subsidiary of the Second Elder’s estate. Most of them no longer considered themselves as just people from the punishment hall but as members under the Second Elder. However these were all matters that had to occur in secret; they couldn’t come out to the public. Publicly they still had to act within the customs and rules, but matters that occurred in secret were a different matter.

“It was just a slip of the tongue, just a slip of the tongue… haha, the fact that he hasn’t died is perfect. Forcing us to run after him for this long, we have to pay him back a bit or I won’t be able to release my resentment.”

The other two also nodded and they decided not to immediately kill Yao Chen. After all, they had lead by the nose by this little kid all around these deep mountains for a whole month. In addition to that suffering, having taken this long to complete their mission, the Punishment Chief might even start to doubt their skills and reduce the amount of benefits they could obtain.

If they didn’t use Yao Chen to release their resentment, then how would that be fair to them?

The three of them worked together, and in just a short time, the heavily injured unconscious Yao Chen ended up hanging from a tree.

One of them hesitated for a moment before taking out a pill and feeding it to Yao Chen.

“We should let him recover a bit so that it’ll be more fun when we torment him a bit.”

The other two nodded with sinister smiles. It appeared they were all thinking of the best ways to torture him.

“The medicine’s done its job. I’m gonna go wake him up with some needles.”

By sticking needles throughout the pain acupuncture points throughout the body, even an unconscious person would be awoken from the pain.

The three of them walked towards Yao Chen, and one of them took out a couple thick ink-black needles. They shined brightly, and it was obvious these were not used to healing but specialized for torture.

    Boom!

Suddenly, a muffled explosion rang out and the three of their expressions changed. “Crap, there’s…”

    A shadow flew forward. Crack….

Yao Chen was dreaming a wonderful dream of his parents holding hands across a huge river. The strange thing was that although they were extremely far away from him, he could still see every single feature of them extremely clearly. Even the slight wrinkles when his father laughed were captured in his gaze.

Yao Chen unconsciously walked across the river. It was clearly a huge river, but it wasn’t deep at all and only reached up to his knees. The riverbed was lined with pebbles without the slightest mud. Even the river water was warm.

He walked and swam, almost reaching the center of the river, when suddenly a bright light flashed behind him. Before he could even react, shining chains bound up his body and pulled him back.

He hadn’t even realized what was going on, when suddenly the pebbles beneath his feet turned into a bottomless pit of sludge, and the originally shallow river water surged up and consumed everything…

    “NO!!!”

All Yao Chen had wanted was to be by his parents’ side….

  • Thanks for the chapter :) I'm really happy to be able to read the story of Yao Chen :D
I bet it's the Demon Maiden who saved him ? :p
  • Thanks for the chapter!
  • thanks, and quite curious about the novel you chose, if it has 100 million views then it must be really good, looking forward to the teasers!!! and ulucky about your accommodation issue... well even if you were on the main page, no one would really care if you ranted or not, as long as it was in the release post and not within in the chapter, as in the past quite a few translators would post some rants in their release posts as well...

anyways, no worries about the speed of LOYL, as although the chapters are longer it is quite a short novel so its not much of an impact on us, tbh i am quite impressed that you release these huge chapters at the pace you do and are still planning on another project!!

lastly if your new novel doesnt have game elements or isnt a vr type of novel then i will check it out and possibly stick with your translation as i do with LOYL...

In the end of 12 chapter (2nd chapter of 2nd volume), you had made a mistake: " Yao Chen’s face whitened, “Don’t tell me… he simplified the Demon Bug Curse Suppressing Pill, and managed to refine two pills in one furnace… then that means, his Spiritual Perception….”  "
Maybe it was a Yao Feng, who said these sentenses?

*Waiting for a new chapter*  :)

    Chapter 16: Traitor Demon Girl

A bright dazzling light pierced his eyes.

“You’re awake? Good, I was actually worried you were going to die.”

A soft and pleasant voice rang in his ears and a fragrant aroma assaulted his nose.

    “Ughh….”

Yao Chen used his hand to block the piercing light and took a couple deep breaths. Immediately he felt the fragrance enter his lungs, which caused a comfortable feeling to spread throughout his whole body, but at the same time it caused him to feel weak and powerless….

    Powerless?

Suddenly Yao Chen jerked and his memory of what had just happened flooded back into his mind. He had been being chased by people trying to kill him when he was knocked down….

Yao Chen fiercely struggled to stand up, but his body wouldn’t listen to him and would only tremble slightly. The fragrance in his lungs brought with it some kind of anesthetic effect.

“You shouldn’t struggle. I gave you Thick Honey Fragrance so you can no longer move. Although actually, this is for your benefit. You don’t need to be afraid anymore; the people trying to hurt you have already all been eaten by me… yup, all taken care of.”

The soft voice once again entered in his ears.

“Wait… you said you ate them? You’re…?”

Yao Chen astutely caught on to the keyword. Humans wouldn’t use the word ‘eat’ to deal with their enemies and the chance it was just a slip of a tongue was not very high.

“Fine, I’m a Nine Star Fox. You won’t have any bad prejudice against me right? After all, I did save your life.”

The soft voice seemed to become a bit dissatisfied. Yao Chen narrowed his eyes, trying to turn his head to see just what this Nine Star Fox looked like, but he found out that he couldn’t even turn his head. For a while, the two just stayed in taciturn silence.

“Hey, do you even have manners? I saved you and I still haven’t heard a word of thanks.”

“Do people who call others ‘hey’ have manners… but thank you.”

Yao Chen blinked a couple times and said a couple words of thanks.

“Fine, I guess I’ll forgive you then. Oh and your forehand has a fire seal on top of it, so does that mean you’re a disciple of the Yao clan? But to be chased by Yao clan’s murderers, it seems more like you’re a traitor of the clan.”

    “You’re the traitor! I’m just… just….”

    “Just what are you?”

“Why do I have to tell someone who drugged me to the point where I can’t even move?!?”

“Ah, I did that to heal you! Hmph, what do you think the Thick Honey Fragrance is used for!”

“I have my own healing medicine.”

“Right, you’re a traitor from the YAO clan, I forgot.”

Yao Chen once again angrily countered, “You’re the traitor!”

“Haha, not exactly, I’m a traitor from the demon clan.”

Who would have thought the soft voice would actually say this in such a cheerful manner.

“You….” Yao Chen hoarsely said. Towards this kind of person who smiled while cursing, just what other words could you have to say?

“Traitor, you’re so boring, sigh. How can you not even ask me how I revolted out the demon clan?”

“… Fine, why did you revolt out the Demon clan?” Yao Chen willingly followed along and asked her. The fragrance’s flavor was weakening, however there was some other kind of faint fragrance that was also present. This fragrance seemed to smell even better and caused his heart to feel a fervent heat.

“Why do I have to tell you? Haha!”

Yao Chen smiled. As expected, he was simply countered with the words he had just used.

However he didn’t really have much interest in that kind of thing, and at this moment his body was gradually recovering his energy. Although his body still couldn’t move, his hands had already recovered to the point where he could wriggle his fingers. Just as he was about to take out some healing medicinal pills, he noticed that there was a very strong medicinal energy in his body that was rapidly healing his injuries. He quickly recognized it as an Emergency Treatment Pill that Iron Guards commonly used.

Taking out and swallowing a couple pills that could assist the Emergency Treatment Pill’s medicinal essence, in a short period of time his body had quickly recovering from his deeply injured and anaesthetized condition. Yao Chen also noticed that while the Thick Honey Fragrance caused him to be unable to move, it actually did have the effect of healing his injuries, and at this time he was already healed by over seventy percent.

    “Thanks.”

This time his thanks were actually sincere, and Yao Chen crawled back up from the ground and slowly turning his head he looked at the demon girl who called herself a traitor of the Demon clan.

    “Cough!”

Yao Chen almost choked on his own breath.

There was only one way to describe it… a demonic body with pink skin wearing a green skirt that completely didn’t match the human race’s aesthetic views. And her face seemed to have strange lumps? It appeared as if she had failed to take human shape.

    “Hey! You have a complaint!?”

“No, it’s just your voice… cough.”

    “It’s pleasant, right?”

“Uh huh.” When Yao Chen looked at this little demon girl’s appearance and he thought to himself that that was pretty much her only strong point.

“Fine, I’ll forgive you for your rudeness. Hey, what’s your name?”

Yao Chen hesitated for a few seconds but still replied, “… Yao Chen. You?”

“Haha, I’m called the little demon girl.” The little demon girl’s eyes spun crazily as if she had thought of something amusing.

“How did you save me?” Yao Chen looked at her. He sensed that even he would be able to defeat her, so just how did he save him from three Da Dou Shis?

    “I’m not telling you.”

“Fine. I’m going to go leave now. This favor will not be forgotten by me during my lifetime.” Yao Chen wanted to say more, but his heart felt completely empty. He didn’t even know what would happen to him tomorrow, and as for ways to pay back this favor, he felt even hollower inside as the feeling of being unable to return the favor washed over him.

Yao Chen bowed deeply. Then orienting himself, he started to very carefully start moving again while doing as much as possible to avoid leaving behind any traces of himself.

“You don’t need to be this careful. The ten people chasing you have already died.” At this time the little demon girl’s voice rang out from behind.

Yao Chen was shocked, and turning around he once again sized up the little demon girl. Nowhere on her body was the aura of a strong person, and amongst the ten people chasing him there were at least three nine star Da Dou Shis, so how was she capable of taking care of them?

“Do you know how to leave here? Actually I’m already lost, and originally I wanted to return to the Yao clan but halfway through I lost my map.” The little demon girl blinked her eyes a couple times, and although she didn’t match up to the human race’s aesthetics, but looking at her there was kind of charming pitiful feeling.

    “Ok, let’s go together.”

Yao Chen nodded. Even if she was a woman, being a free bodyguard for her seemed pretty useless… but in any case, helping her to leave this place could also count as a little way he could start to repay her for saving his life.

“Excellent, if you didn’t bring me with you then… haha, let’s go.”

Yao Chen shivered, and he told himself not to think too deeply on the hidden meanings behind this little demon girl’s words.

However, Man proposes but God disposes….

Two days later, Yao Chen had once again lost the way. Originally it had been going very well, but just as they were about to leave the Shennong Mountain Range, the little demon girl suddenly provoked a nest of over ten thousand Fire Ants that covered the ground  as far as the eye could see. This kind of force was something that even someone with a Dou Wang level of strength wouldn’t wish to provoke. The two of them spent a whole day running all over the place before they managed to shake them off, but they zfled so abruptly that Yao Chen had lost his orientation.

“What do you mean it’s all my fault! Who would have thought that those Fire Ants would be this savage? They didn’t even get affected by my charm; otherwise they would have become my servants.” The little demon girl argued in order to avoid responsibility. However she was playing with a fiery red crystal in her hands, proving that she had caused this incident. This was a Fire Ant Crystal which is formed from the energy inside the Fire Ant Queen’s body before being secreted out. Based on the size of this Fire Ant Crystal, it had to contain at least ten years worth of the Fire Ant Queen’s agglomerated energy. If the Fire Ant Queen’s lifetime was almost ended, she could swallow this Fire Ant Crystal and there would be a definite chance for her to transform to the higher rank Raging Inferno Ant Queen, thus extending her life.

The little demon girl’s stealing of the Fire Ant Crystal meant that she had cut off the chance for the Fire Ant Queen to advance and extend her lifetime, so as for her charm? Go charm an idiot! This kind of enmity she caused was clearly endless until death!

It wasn’t as if Yao Chen could say much more of anything anymore, and he merely shook his head and said, “Let’s go. The Fire Ants can still sense the crystal so this spot still isn’t safe.”

The little demon girl stuck out her soft and tender tongue, “Let’s split it up. I’ll eat two thirds and I’ll give you one third for you to eat.”

“Eat…” Yao Chen rolled his eyes, “That’s too wasteful.”

“No, if we don’t eat it then it’ll be basically a waste. The longer it leaves the Fire Ant Queen’s side, the more its efficiency drops.”

“If you directly ate it, it would be a miracle for you to digest one hundred percent of its energy. Refining it into a medicinal pill is the best way.” Yao Chen informed.

The little demon girl blinked. “You know how to refine medicine?”

“Uh, nooooo, I….” Yao Chen opened and closed his mouth. Looking at the little demon girl’s smiling face that couldn’t be considered pretty from any angle, he immediately understood… the nonsense about eating it was just the little demon girl’s indirect method of getting what she wanted.

It was true that not refining it would be a waste, however refining the Fire Ant Crystal required quite a few medicinal ingredients. Although he was fleeing, Yao Chen had still not been completely preoccupied with it and along the journey he had collected quite a few precious and rare medicinal ingredients. Most likely these medicinal ingredients had been noticed by the little demon girl and so she had entered the Fire Ant nest in order to fight over the Fire Ant Crystal.

    “I’ll refine it.”

His father had taught him that the favor of a drop of water when in need should be repaid with a spring of water later. Favors had to be repaid many times over.

The favor of saving his life meant he had to repay it with his own life. However, before he accomplished his father’s dying wish and carved his father’s name onto the Clan Monument, he still had to treasure his own life. After dying then he would have nothing; everything would end in darkness. Two years ago, the day that his father had died, Yao Chen had understood just how heavy the word ‘death’ was.

Finding a relatively empty and open area, Yao Chen took out his medicinal cauldron. Over this whole month he had been fleeing so it had already been quite a while since he had practiced his refining. His hand was trembling slightly as he touched the medicinal cauldron and he also recalled the events that had happened during the Medicine Competition. It took quite a long time before Yao Chen finally took a deep breath, and when he started moving his Dou Qi he felt that his meridians had a kind of scorching prickling pain. This was due to the life and death moment causing him to enter the mastery level of the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique, causing his body to undergo some bizarre changes.

Using the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique’s Dou Flame to start his medicinal cauldron, Yao Chen noticed that when the Dou Flame appeared, the little demon girl’s face clearly had some fear and she retreated a step.

With the Fire Ant Crystal as the core ingredient, the only thing that could be refined was the Fire Crystal Pill. This pill didn’t have a rank, and it only let the Fire Ant Crystal become easier to absorb. As long as there were sufficient medicinal ingredients to complement it, the difficulty was not very high.

Two hours later, Yao Chen’s forehead was covered with sweat. The time to receive the pill had almost arrived. Although this was a simple essence extracting refinement, this Fire Ant Crystal’s quality had exceeded his expectations and was approaching top grade. His refinement was split into three porcelain bottles, and in total there were forty nine pills.

“I’ll give you one bottle, and the rest will be mine.”

The little demon girl acted pretty quickly, and with a swish she took two of the bottles in Yao Chen’s hand. Yao Chen smiled bitterly. What was the point in fighting over it with him? Originally he didn’t even want it. Bakin the Fire Crystal Pills would let him absorb the Fire Ant’s essence, which would increase his body’s endurance and resistance towards fire. Taking another glance at the little demon girl’s eyes, he realized being polite and refusing would be offensive, so Yao Chen decisively collected the medicinal bottle into his Storage Ring. The little demon girl laughed mischievously, and from her robe she took out some medicinal ingredients, “Huh, your refining technique isn’t that bad. I have quite a few things here; look and see if they are useful to you.”

Yao Chen took a glance, and couldn’t help but to tremble in shock. There weren’t a large amount of the medicinal ingredients, but every single one was a seventh grade or eighth grade medicinal ingredient. Amongst them was even a Flame Devil Demonic Heart which was a genuine ninth grade medicinal ingredient which could only be obtained by luck!

“These medicinal ingredients… they have exceeded my abilities to use. Also, don’t lightly show these medicinal ingredients to strangers….”

Yao Chen’s throat croaked, and he actually had an urge to steal them from the little demon girl. These medicinal ingredients would all give rise to a bloody rain and evil wind from people trying to steal it, and even in the Yao clan they were all extremely precious and wouldn’t be lightly revealed to others. If they were handed over to the clan treasury, then who knows how many benefits you could obtain. And if you were to exchange it for merit points then it would end up in the thousands.

“Ah, I know. It’s not like you’re a stranger. I’ll leave these with you for now and when you’re able to use them you can refine them for me, how’s that sound?” The little demon girl’s expression had ‘I’m a very treacherous person’ written all over it as she piercingly stared at Yao Chen.

“Cough, you trust me this much?”

“Of course I trust you, your name is Yao Chen right? I… hehe, I think this name is a very righteous and loyal name.”

“Oh really?” Yao Chen doubtingly looked at the little demon girl. Thinking back to how his mother had said the more beautiful a woman was the better she was at tricking people, he now felt that as long as it was any woman she would definitely be able to trick people. The little demon girl definitely had some hidden intentions and wanted something from him.

However, this life of his was saved by her. Yao Chen laughed and decided to accept them unconcerned. The heavens were large and the earth was large; what else could be larger than the favor of saving his life?

“Let’s go.” The little demon girl’s nose sniffed and she started walking a certain direction.

    “You know where to go?”

“Not really, but there’s a river to this side. I know the Shennong Mountain Range only has a single river, the Shennong River. It flows north and as long as you follow the flow, it’ll bring you to the Central Plains.”

“The Central Plains….” The Shennong mountain range was located to the extreme south of the Central Plains. Although they were technically within the boundary of the Central Plains, the Central Plains she spoke of was ten thousand miles away from the Shennong Mountain Range. Yao Chen immediately felt an extreme feeling of unfamiliarity.

She blinked at him and said, “Hurry up! Oh wait, do you know how to refine sweets?”

Yao Chen wasn’t able to tear his thoughts away, and he moodily replied, “No.”

“Tch, how petty… help me refine some food; I’ve already finished everything I brought from my home. I brought the recipe and the ingredients. Just refine some for me.”

“No! Who was the one who said we had to hurry up?!”

“Refine them for me when we get to the riverside.”

“We’ll discuss it when we get there then.”

    “Deal!”

“I didn’t say yes!” Yao Chen had a headache from her; woman really were troublesome, especially demon women.

They argued as they cut their way through the bush. But at least it wasn’t lonely. When it was evening, the rumbling sound of water filled their ears.

    “A waterfall!”

The demon girl jumped up and rushed over.

Yao Chen quickly followed her, and in a short moment a long winding river appeared before his eyes.  Not far was a cliff hundreds of meters high. A waterfall dozens of meters wide crashed down from it. Mist flew into the air, creating a huge dazzling rainbow.

The demon girl jumped and shouted in front of the waterfall; this was the joy that came from playing with water.

Yao Chen also smiled slightly. Walking up the water, he filled his water canteens. He then took out some food. Using the Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique, he heated the meat and sprinkled some spices over it as well as the herbs he had collected along the way.

When the little demon girl smelled it, despite enjoying the water, she jumped over dripping wet and pitifully looked at Yao Chen. Although she had a fox’s face, the way she was drooling with desire was also a bit cute.

Yao Chen shook his head and used his Triple Flower Agglomerating Flame Technique to cook up some more meat and wrapped it with fresh herbs, giving it to her. She happily bit into it. “Hm, people with flame attribute Dou Qi really do have an advantage here. Every single one of them are master chefs.”

Yao Chen smiled bitterly; after all, that flame was supposed to be used for refining medicine. But using it for cooking was also not bad. After all, his control over the flame was definitely not lacking. He had eaten it like this hundreds of time without tiring of it, however… he had never actually once personally cooked one for his mother….

As soon as he thought of his mother, Yao Chen’s face darkened. He didn’t know how his mother was right now. Before he left, his mother’s blood and qi had rebelled, and he wondered whether the clan elders would help her. Since Yao Wangui hadn’t captured him, would he take it out on his mother?

“Are you thinking of home? I also miss my mom a bit…”

The little demon girl ate her full and patted her stomach. Her gaze rippled.

Yao Chen raised his head and looked at her. “You also have a mom?”

“Hey, are you provoking me? Do you think only you have a mother? Although I’m a demon, we are also born from a mother.” She looked just like a cat whose tail had been stepped on as she jumped up and angrily glared at Yao Chen.

“No…” He rubbed his nose, his face apologetic. He didn’t know much about the demon clan.

His entire life, he had always been indifferent to anything that wasn’t cultivating Dou Qi or alchemy.

“Hmph, I guess you must be a blockhead or you wouldn’t have been expelled from the Yao clan. You know what, how about you come home with me. I’ll make my dad give you the title of a grandmaster alchemist,” she said, looking for his reaction.

Yao Chen hesitated but still shook his head. In terms of escape paths, going to the demon clan wasn’t a bad choice, but if he did go, then he would probably never be able to leave. He still remembered his mother telling him to carve his name on to the Clan Monument. Although he was expelled from the clan, but as long as acted properly, there would be a day he could go back. But if he entered the demon clan, no matter how great his actions were in the future, he would never be able to carve his name onto that monument. For Yao Chen, nothing was more important than his father’s final wishes and his mother’s expectations.

“My demon clan has many medicinal ingredients. Whatever you want to refine, you won’t lack for ingredients.”

“Haha.” Yao Chen laughed, but firmly shook his head.

“Tch, it’s almost dark. Let’s rest here tonight and make a raft tomorrow. We can follow the river quickly.” Saying this, for some reason she suddenly laughed.

Yao Chen felt his vision blur for a moment, and it seemed as if the little demon girl’s fox nose seemed to recede a bit, but as soon as he blinked she returned to normal.

    Appearance Changing Pill?

His heart shook, but he still turned and smiled normally. “I’ll go find a place we can rest for the night.”

The huge mountain range on the horizon quickly swallowed the setting sun’s last rays, causing night to descend. The sound of birds and bugs became much louder. The place they chose to rest was a couple hundred meters away from the river, and the rumbling from the waterfall was no longer as deafening here.

The mountain forest’s night was extremely cold, so Yao Chen ignited some smokeless wood. He also set up a simple warning Dou Formation. Although it wasn’t powerful, but it was enough to repel some large beasts.

The little demon girl had become exhausted from playing in the water all afternoon, so she slept soundly as soon as she lied down.

Yao Chen consumed some pills that could recover energy as he rested, looking at the fire. Although this place was hundreds of miles from the Yao clan and the people chasing him were dead according to the little demon girl, he didn’t dare become overconfident.

As the smokeless wood cackled, for some reason Yao Chen started to feel his eyelids become heavy and he became extremely sleepy. He was unable to resist as he lay down.

    Strange….

His head hit the ground and he fell asleep.

At this time, a large figure appeared beside the fire like a phantom.

    “Huh? Spirit Slumber Grass?”

Suddenly the sleeping demon girl jumped up. A jade decoration on her waist emitted a faint green glow.

    “Miss.”

A huge figure knelt down to the little demon girl.

“Oh, it’s you. You scared me.” She patted her stomach. “I’m not going back. I want to keep playing.”

“Miss, master sent a message that if I don’t bring miss back within three days he’ll blame me.”

“Hmph, I knew he would use this to threaten me. You never should have followed me from the beginning.”

“Haha.” The huge figure let out a straightforward laugh; if it weren’t for him taking action in the dark, how could she possibly have managed to play this happily relying on just her own strength? Let alone the experts from the Yao clan, even the Magical Beasts along the way were enough to obliterate her and the kid from the Yao clan hundreds of times. Those dangerous moments had occurred several times, and even he had received a few wounds to block them. But when he saw how happy the young miss was, he felt that it was worth it.

“Take him back to the clan with us. Our demon clan is most lacking in alchemists.”

The huge figure shook his head. “Miss, forgive me for speaking bluntly. This kid has been expelled from the Yao clan, and the one who punished him was Yao Wangui. Perhaps… master might exchange him for some benefits with the Yao clan.”

She was stumped for a moment. The reason she had joined Yao Chen wasn’t just to play around. The demon clan was in dire need of alchemists. Even lower tier alchemists were extremely lacking. Furthermore the human race was completely evil and would rarely take out a large amount of medicinal pills for them. She frowned, “But his potential…”

Thu huge figure firmly said, “This little one doesn’t wish to see miss have a conflict with master just for a human. Furthermore, if we bring him back to the clan and Yao Wangui learns of it, it might end up hurting our relation with the Yao clan.”

“Fine, I get it.” She waved her hand a bit angrily but helplessly. Looking at the unconscious Yao Chen, she hesitated a moment before leaving a few words for him. “I went back home. Don’t worry. My name is actually Hu Jiujiu, and if we ever meet again, you can’t call me little demon girl. Also, you haven’t helped me refine my sweets, so the favor of saving your life has yet to be repaid. So you have to make sure to stay alive and not just randomly die.”

Thinking about it, she also left behind an adorable troublemaking Nine Star Fox picture beside the words.

“Okay, let’s go,” she said, wiping her hands.

The huge figure waved his hand, and a shadow completely enveloped her. The two of them turned into a black wind that flew up into the sky and disappeared.

    Footnote:

    Hu Jiujiu means Fox NineNine.

  • Thanks for the chapter!
  • Thanks =) I though it was going to be the demon maiden since she seems to dislike him(or have a liking? In a weird way)
  • Hey guys so I don't think I ever posted the author's synopsis of the novel, and if I did I totally can't find it and it's not on the first post. Which is weird because I totally remember translating but I can't find it anywhere.

Author's synopsis: This is the Dou Qi world, where the strong are respected and the weak are despised. The Yao clan is one of the 8 Ancient Clans with the Dou Emperor's blood in the veins, and it is a holy land for alchemists. Follow Yao Chen, Xiao Yan's teacher, as he goes from his low position in the Yao clan to standing at the summit of the Dou Qi continent.

I'll also be adding this to the first post.
  • Thanks!!..

Translator notes: Major Mastery is a level also known as large success stage in other novels (for sure in True Martial World). There hasn't been many mastery levels, so it's possible I might have to change it if a whole system appears.

About that, although i don't read this novel before it's related to BTTH, so its likely that he kept the same system right ? So that system already exist, look at the current arc translated with the Wind Lighting pavillon, when he learnd their Dou skill (That Di type) if i remember correctly they were three stage of mastery in this Dou skill, so basically i think it's the same skill but more and more profond/exquisite when mastered, those flaws that a newbie have will disapered while having a greater level of mastery.

    Chapter 17: Feng Xian

Yao Chen looked at the writing as well as the messy Nine Star Fox picture on the ground and felt a bit disappointed….

While she had been present, he genuinely had felt she was very annoying. Yes, she had saved his life, but she really knew how to be noisy and cause trouble.

But now when he had awoken to find out she had already left, he truly felt that a piece of his heart was missing.

“I should be happy she’s gone… who else tells people to go die… really, and she didn’t even give a proper farewell before leaving….”

Yao Chen shook his head and fixed up his emotions. He collected his things and washed up. Scouting around, he found a small bamboo forest. Chopping down ten or so trunks that were around the thickness of a bowl, he brought them to a river bank. Using some tough tree bark as rope, he started to make a bamboo raft.

Although this was his first time doing such a thing, he had heard before Luo Shu’s brother Luo Shan talking about this method, and after a couple of experiments Yao Chen quickly grasped how to do it. Although he grasped the concept quickly, it was already the afternoon by the time he finished.

Testing it a couple times, he found that the bamboo raft was definitely secure, and he pushed it into the water. Standing in the center of the bamboo raft, he quietly floated down the river. A day later, he drifted out of the Shennong Mountain Range. The mountain range changed into a flat land and the towering mountains became nothing more than sand.

At this time the bamboo raft’s speed was becoming slower and slower, so Yao Chen had no choice but to abandon it and go on shore. It appeared that his wish to follow the flow all the way until the middle of the fields was too naïve. Within the mountain range the water flow was extremely rapid, but after reaching the plains, the water flow became gentle and it would be faster to walk than to continue floating.

Going ashore, he walked along the riverside. Despite the little demon girl not being present anymore, Yao Chen still decided to move towards the Central Plains center.

Having left the Yao clan and entered this unfamiliar world, other than moving forward, he had nowhere else to go.

He simply walked along the riverside, When he became hungry he would catch some fish to eat, and if his luck was good then he could catch some wild animals in the forest beside the shore.

One month passed in that manner. Now cities and towns appeared beside the river.

    Southshore City.

Paying the entry fee at the city gate, Yao Chen entered into the city when a burst of hot air hit him in the face. People… lots of people.

There were peddlers and lower class people coming and going everywhere. It was bustling with noise and liveliness. This was something that could not be found in the Yao clan. Everything in the Yao clan was neat and in good order, and even if there were more people, the Yao clan would definitely stay peaceful and quiet. There would absolutely not be people who would dare to make a ruckus in the clan. But here, the sounds of people laughing and chattering were everywhere.

Not walking far, he saw a couple beggar children surrounding a handsome youngster, begging for money. The youngster was wearing embroidered clothes so he appeared to be the young lord of a rich family.

“I really don’t have any money…” The embroidered-clothed youngster turned red from shouting, but his words had no effect here. These beggars were all either orphans or came from human trafficking. Behind them were adults who controlled them, and if they didn’t get enough money when they returned then they wouldn’t get any food to eat. They would even get cruelly beat halfway to death. In the eyes of the people who controlled them, it didn’t matter if they broke a foot or dug out an eye. The more miserable and deformed they looked, the better. As long as it could move people’s compassion to give money it was fine. As for the children’s future, they’d either get picked up by others or die in a couple years and then get buried in the deep mountains. Their owners would just buy or pick up a couple more of them.

It wasn’t that the embroidered-clothed youngster didn’t have money, it was just that he clearly knew that if he gave these people money, it might appear like he was doing a good thing, but in fact it was no different than acting as an accomplice.

The embroidered-clothed youngster was chased by the little beggars down the entire road before he managed to shake them off. He then turned his head and said to Yao Chen, “I’ve already said, I don’t have any money.”

“… What?” Yao Chen blankly asked, but even before the words were out his mouth, his stomach let out a loud rumbling noise.

The embroidered-clothed youngster knit his eyebrows, and actually said, “If you’re hungry I can treat you to a meal.”

“Why would you want to treat me to a meal?” Yao Chen blankly and foolishly replied. Were all the outside world’s people this nice? Would they really treat people to meals the first time they met without even knowing them?

N , there definitely had been a misunderstanding. If you treated anyone you saw to food, then even if you had even more money you would eventually be eaten empty and poor.

“If you want money then there’s none, but if you’re hungry I can treat you this one time.”

The embroidered-clothed youngster took out a food basket from his Storage Ring, and the sweet smell of the food filled the air. Gurgle… Yao Chen’s stomach fiercely rumbled. His Storage Ring’s dry meats were basically just dregs he could use to fill his stomach in comparison.

“Ok.” Yao Chen didn’t stand on courtesy, and pondering for a second, he said, “Meeting each other was fate; today you treat me and next time I’ll treat you.”

“Haha, anything is fine as long as you’re not asking for money.” The embroidered-clothed youngster laughed as he curiously looked at Yao Chen. This was the first time he had met a beggar who would say these kinds of words.

Walking along a small riverbank within the city, the two of them picked a willow tree to sit under. The embroidered-clothed youngster opened the food basket and the inside were four neatly piled up double-layered food containers. Opening one, the fragrant aroma became even stronger.

    “You can eat.”

Yao Chen nodded, and completely not standing on courtesy and with an enthusiasm that he had learned from fatty Luo, he ferociously started eating.

Obviously the embroidered-clothed youngster’s family was very strict. He sat with proper posture, ate with proper etiquette, and all his movements were coordinated with a refined grace. This kind of behaviour was something that only a noble would have; if you didn’t start getting nurtured like this from a young age, there was no way you could learn to do it in such a manner later in life.

The embroidered-clothed youngster had only eaten two mouthfuls when he noticed that the entire food basket had already been completely eaten empty.

“Uh… I…” The embroidered-clothed youngster’s mouth was faintly trembling, and he wanted to say something but he was unable to actually say it. He only looked at Yao Chen in shock. This kid really knew how to eat! However his own stomach was also growling in hunger.

Yao Chen’s face turned red with embarrassment. Having become accustomed to having to fight for food with Luo Shu, he had forgotten how to eat with normal people.

“It’s no problem. If we have karma we’ll see each other again.” The embroidered-clothed youngster collected the food containers into his Storage Ring, and faintly saying a couple words to Yao Chen he prepared to leave.

    “Wait, what’s your name?

“Haha, my name’s not important. But you have whole arms and whole legs. You might be in difficult times, but in the end begging is not something a true man should do. These are just the words of a stranger. Brother shouldn’t blame me for meddling too much in other people’s business with these unpleasant words. If it’s fate then we will meet again.”

The embroidered-clothed youngster jumped up using a Dou Technique and all of a sudden disappeared.

Yao Chen blankly stared in a daze. His speed was quite fast, but what really stunned him were the words he had just said. Beg? When did he go beg?

Walking along the river, Yao Chen looked down and saw his reflection. Oh… in the river’s reflection he saw a youngster with ragged clothing, messy hair, and with streaks of black all over his face. Yao Chen couldn’t help but to let out a shocked noise as he looked down at his reflection.

Yao Chen bitterly laughed. With his current appearance, anyone who saw him would think he was a beggar. It was fortunate the embroidered-clothed youngster had the good self control to ignore his appearance and let him eat with him. It was a pity that he didn’t even know what he was called. If he found the opportunity then he definitely had to pay him back properly.

Arriving at that thought, Yao Chen laughed at himself mockingly. He didn’t even know whether Yao Wangui would send out more people when no one returned, so it was difficult to guarantee his own life let alone talk about paying people back.

Yao Chen didn’t stay too long along the within the Southshore City. After buying new clothes and supplies, he ended up leaving.

To the north of Southshore City were more and more vestiges of human activities. Not only were there cultivators of large sects, but there were also even more regular people in villages and cities all over the place. Travelling merchants came and went along the roads on their caravans, and every five or so kilometers along the road there was a tavern that could supply them with supplies and food. All in all, this part of the world was very prosperous.

Although Yao Chen had left the city, he didn’t have any target so he just followed the road towards the center of the Central Plains.

However things that occur by fate always come suddenly. On the third night, Yao Chen arrived in front of a family-owned tavern along the road.

As soon as he entered he noticed the embroidered-clothed youngster who had treated him to the meal, however this time he wasn’t alone. Sitting beside him were several middle-aged men that were talking to him, and the embroidered-clothed youngster would occasionally nod.

When Yao Chen entered, the embroidered-clothed youngster did notice him, but obviously he didn’t recognize him now that he had tidied himself up. He only indifferently glanced at him before once again focusing on the middle-aged men’s talk.

Yao Chen found a place to sit, and one of the tavern’s waiters came over, pouring him some tea and offering him the menu, “Does the guest want to eat something… or maybe you want to stay a couple days?”

Yao Chen took a small sip of the tea and said, “Stay for the night. As for food, bring me half a pound of meat. Is there rice?”

The waiter presented the menu and said, “There’s first-rate fragrant rice and other than meat there’s also fish….”

Yao Chen didn’t have much experience. He listened to the waiter’s presentation and quickly read a bit of the menu. Many of the items were things he had never heard of while in the Yao clan.

Only when the food arrived did he notice that had ordered a bit too much, and there wasn’t even enough space on the table to hold. It was fortunate that Yao Chen wasn’t afraid that he would waste it. He was ravenous and finished every single plate. Some of the dishes were just average tasting, but since it was the first time he had tasted them they still felt novel and fresh.

The guests currently eating all around him were all a bit stunned by how much Yao Chen could eat.

“Haha, who knows where he came from that he hasn’t even tried sheep and cow meat before.”

“It’s not that weird. I’ve done some trading deep in the mountains and some of the people there are from poor and secluded villages that can only eat pork, and that would only be during celebrations. Most of them make their living from hunting. In the mountains and forests they don’t have good land for domestication and can only raise chickens and dogs. Most of those people won’t even see beef for their whole lives.”

At this time, a rumbling noise came from the tavern’s entrance. Twelve people covered in dust and wearing violet capes with black clothes rushed into the tavern.

“People from the Violet Fiend Gang.”

“Recently the Violet Fiend gang’s people have been very active. It seems like something big is happening.”

“Shhh, quiet, if they hear you you’ll definitely die.”

The merchants within the tavern were all quietly discussing them, with most of them having fearful expressions on their face.

Yao Chen looked over of the group of people wearing black clothes. He simply continued eating his own food.

“Guest, the dishes you’ve asked for are all here now, please eat slowly.”

The waiter at this moment had brought over the very last plate. After quietly saying this, he was just about to withdraw when Yao Chen stopped him, saying, “I’ll pay the bill now.”

Saying this, he took out five second tier Energy Support Pills and placed them on the table.

In the Yao clan, such a feast would cost two Energy Support Pills, and sleeping for a night would require three of them. The Yao Chen who didn’t have any experience of living outside the Yao clan naturally thought that the world outside the Yao clan would also use Energy Support Pills to settle bills.

    He hardly imagined that….

The tavern’s waiter’s eyes almost popped out of his face. This… this was… medicinal pills!”

“Guest… guest, do you really want to use these medicinal pills to settle the bill?” The waiter’s voice had even started to stutter and tremble.

“Is there a problem?” Yao Chen wrinkled his brows; according to the rumors in the Yao clan, their medicinal pills were much more valuable outside the clan than within. Since he had paid five Energy Support Pills using clan standards to pay, it should be worth more than enough.

“No! No problem! I just wanted to confirm.” The tavern waiter collected the pills at lightning speed. Heavens! He was just the brother of the head of a farming family; for just a silver’s worth of food, someone used medicinal pills to pay for i!. No matter what kind of medicinal pill it was even, even if it was the lowest tier Energy Recovery Pill, just one pill was already worth ten times that. Furthermore just having the money was useless most of the time since not anyone who wanted to buy pills could find a seller. This offspring of a farming family obtaining five pills was equivalent to gaining hundreds of silvers in profit.

To the side, all the merchants were all dumbfounded. They never would have imagined that this food-hound would so crazily spend his money in such an extravagant manner.

“Wait, this little brother’s bill will be settled by us. Ninth officer, go bring the medicinal pills back.” The guests who had just entered, the Violet Fiend Gang, let out an overbearing laughter and ordered the waiter back.

A broken piece of silver was thrown onto the ground, and one of the members of the Violet Fiend Gang strode over to the waiter.

The waiter’s expression became terrified, and he crashed to the ground. Kneeling, he raised the five Energy Support Pills over his head as an offering.

“I guess you’re not an idiot.”

The ninth officer coldly laughed. He took the five Energy Support Pills and walked back.

“Boss Bai, are you planning on…?”

Between sentences he shot glances in Yao Chen’s direction.

“Forget about it. After we finish eating we still have to hurry on our way.” Boss Bai’s eyes also seemed to hesitate.

Yao Chen faintly narrowed his eyes, understanding a bit. His problem was that he lacked experience, not that he was an idiot. Wealth couldn’t be flaunted, and obviously the outside world didn’t use medicinal pills to settle bills like this. His taking out of medicinal pills had already caused him to taken note of by other people.

However this place was already outside the Yao clan’s sphere of influence so Yao Chen didn’t worry that he’d be once again chased and attempted to be killed. In the end he was only quietly expelled; in all likelihood, Yao Wangui wouldn’t go too far for him and act with all the power of the clan.

In addition, the Yao clan was still comparatively isolated. Disciples that completed missions outside the clan were very few in number. The ancestral lands of the Yao clan had all of their needs, and even the spiritual energy was greater than in the outside world, which would benefit their training. Basically there weren’t any clan members who would want to leave the ancestral lands. In this kind of situation, as long as he had left the Yao clan’s sphere of influence, Yao Chen could be calm and have nothing to fear.

After eating, he let the waiter bring him to his room.

Since Yao Chen had paid using medicinal pills, although they had been taken away by the Violet Fiend Gang, the owner personally brought Yao Chen to a room far away from the main street with only a small village in the vicinity. This was the best room within fifteen miles of the inn. It was located very conveniently and over ten rooms had been built around a courtyard; normally it was reserved for important people.

“There aren’t many uncivilized people around here and if anyone unwanted comes near here or you need anything, just go to that lobby over there and call for me.”

    “Ok.”

“Then I’ll leave.” The owner felt that since Yao Chen could easily take out five Energy Support Pills he was definitely a powerful person. Although their business didn’t obtain that money, they didn’t dare offend him. They didn’t couldn’t afford not to give him special treatment. Their hotel accepted all sorts of people, and sometimes making a loss could be a profit in another way.

When he was leaving, he hesitated for a moment before he was unable to resist and very quickly whispered, “Perhaps I’m thinking too much, but be careful about those people from the Violet Fiend Gang.”

Yao Chen was startled but he still smiled. He then took out three more Energy Support Pills. “Take these and exchange them for… money.”

He was delighted to take them, saying, “I can exchange them right now. Three Energy Support Pills can be exchanged for one hundred and fifty silvers. This place is near the Yao clan and quite a few of their Energy Support Pills have circulated around here, lowering the price. If you keep walking another hundred miles, the price will double… do you really want me to exchange them?”

“Exchange them right here. Also prepare ten days worth of food for me by the morning.”

“Yes yes yes, no problem at all. I’ll make sure young lord is satisfied when he wakes up. Our inn’s meat patties are famous near and far.”

He took out one hundred and fifty silvers from his robes as well as twelve broken silvers and gave them to Yao Chen before leaving to prepare the food.

Yao Chen’s gaze followed him as he left and he smiled slightly before going into this room. Lying on the bed, feeling the bedding, looking up at the ceiling without seeing the starlight, he suddenly felt extremely unfamiliar with the world and found it hard to sleep.

He might as well just give up on sleeping. Sitting up, he started to circulate his Dou Qi.

    Rumble…

Suddenly, the sound of fighting rang out from outside. The sound of Dou Qi colliding resounded like a drum.

Yao Chen opened his eyes and walked to the window where he saw that embroidered-clothed youngster flying in the air with a pair of flaming wings. He was fighting with an unfamiliar person with pitch-black bat wings.

The two of their wings were powerful Flying Dou Techniques, and it was extremely obvious the embroidered-clothed youth’s wings were a level higher. He agilely dodged his opponent in the air, occasionally also sending out attacks. Clouds of flame shot from his hands, and his opponent was unable to reach him.

“The Feng Manor’s Flame Cloud Technique truly is extraordinary. This old man won’t accompany you any further.”

The man with the bad wings laughed weirdly and his wings receded. His body strangely turning into seven black shadows that looked the exact same and split up into different directions.

The embroidered-clothed youngster was startled, not expecting that he would leave just like that. The two fire clouds coming out of his hands weakened.

Yao Chen faintly smiled. No one seemed to notice him staring out of the window. Obviously the battle just now had scared off anyone with hidden motives.

The embroidered-clothed youngster quickly arrived inside the courtyard, and his gaze was like lightning as it passed through the window to intersect with Yao Chen.

    “Sorry for bothering you.”

    “No problem.” Yao Chen nodded.

“I don’t know where brother plans on going. How about we go together tomorrow? And can I have a name for you?”

“Many thanks for your good intentions, but I’m already accustomed to being by myself. I don’t know whether this respected brother has a great name?”

“Haha, my family name is Feng, while my surname is just one word, Xian. Since brother has no such intention, then I’ve meddled in your affairs too much. It’s getting late in the night, so please don’t blame me for bothering you. I’ll take my leave now.” The embroidered-clothed youngster’s eyes flashed slightly, and cupping his hands, he unfolded his flame wings and flew off. In the blink of an eye he had already disappeared.

Yao Chen smiled. He knew that the embroidered-clothed youngster had good intentions, however since he had left the Yao clan, he had to rely on his own strength to pass through his life. Without some difficulties, how could he temper himself and gain strength?

  • Sorry for the long wait guys. I haven't been translating this novel for a couple reasons. For one, I don't think anyone can get a license for this novel since it was published as a physical novel and I don't want to be attacked by the publisher. Second, I'm translating a different novel now and I haven't had time to really focus on this as I have to focus on the other one. When I have time, if no one has picked this up, I will come back to it in 1-2 months. I'm now translating on GT, so you'll be seeing a new translator with a new name appear soon hopefully.
