Translation Rules! Possibility of Promotion!

Interested in testing out your Chinese translation chops in a friendly location with a built-in audience and friendly fellow translations you can bounce ideas off of (translation/language discussion forum)?  You've come to the right place!  Welcome to the Wuxiaworld Translations forum!  If your translation is good enough (and you show enough consistency and quality, usually at least for 1-2 months or 40-60 chapters), you might be 'promoted' to the front page of the website proper at www.wuxiaworld.com, with all the perks that entails, including ad revenue!  The decision is solely at the discretion of Wuxiaworld staff (meaning me xD).  Meanwhile, sharpen your translation chops here!

Note - While any translations are accepted, only 'manual translations' (aided by online dictionaries and tools is fine) will be eligible for being 'promoted', with Wuxia and Xianxia-type novels having preference.

Please note that the ONLY new discussions that should be created are the actual translation threads; discussions should be held within each translation thread or elsewhere!  Thanks for your cooperation!  As always, please make sure you only post your own works here, and not any works from someone else without permission!

Is it ok if we link our own translations from another site or do we have to post our own text translations right here?
We have about 40 chapters translated so far, so it'd be a tad troublesome to post all of them in the same thread.
  • care sending me the link, would be sad not reading a translated work #doubledd
  • Here's what I've been working on with another person:  http://www.radianttranslations.com/guang-zhi-zi/index/
We're kind of popular. We hit a million views last week!
A web novel by the name of Child of Light. This is the author's first work, there are some obvious flaws, dialogue for one. But it does have its merits.
  • If you go by what RWX said in the original stories forum section, posting from other sites are fine but need to be text copied, not just links. So would have to copy-paste it to here.
  • @doubledd,
I absolutely love Child of Light, it's just slow paced right now, just building up his background.
Hopefully you will join WuxiaWorld soon and release on the front page insted of on your own blog(if possible), this will give you less troubles handling the site and other things, since thats Ren's job.

CoL = a fit novel for WuxiaWorld, hopefully you get frontpage + a forum thread for it.

  • @Doubledd

I asked the same question of RWX yesterday on the forum release post. He said that links are not allowed only whole translations. I am not sure if we are allowed to post translations that are already established in a thread though. I asked him a follow up question, let us see if he responds.
  • M2t5, what do you mean by 'already established'?  If you mean on other websites, the answer is yes; the only thing is that I don't want it to be like SPCNET, where people translate a few chapters, then throw links to their own websites and basically make the thread here just an 'orphan' for advertising purposes.  I am ok with links, as long as the whole translations come with the links.

@RWX I'm not sure if this is the right thread for it, but could you make it so that the creator of the thread can update their posts past the 15 minutes. It would be incredibly helpful.

So you're saying that if we've already established a project, we'd have to post it, post by post? Or can we post a link to all the previous chapters and update for every new one?
  • doubledd, that's already in; post/comment makers have unlimited update time!

Yes, you would actually post the chapters here.  You can throw up links to your website on every chapter, but the actual content of the chapter should be present; people 'can' go to your website, but shouldn't be 'forced', if that makes any sense!
  • @RWX

Haha, you answered my question already. Already established was exactly what you thought.

Anyways thanks. I anticipate throwing up a lot of chapters today...
  • Hi,

    Is it just Chinese translations?
Are Korean translations not accepted? Q_Q
    Thanks~!

Hey buddy, Korean translations can be posted here on the forum, but it's going to be hard to convince me to post them on Wuxiaworld (although not impossible), for the simple fact being that I personally do 'spot checks' on multiple chapters of every single translator before asking them to join to verify that they are translating terms correctly, and there's no way for me to do that for Korean.
  • Hi Ren,

my question is - Promotion is based on voting or only at your opinion?

My opinion only.  I'll solicit opinion from others, but I am the final arbiter.
  • Another question, will you be looking exclusively at the forums of will you be browsing wordpress hosts as well?
Also: Does the quality of the work itself, how well the story is written, impact it's promotion?

I look everywhere, but forums will have my priority attention/preference!

And yes, of course the quality of the work will impact whether or not it will be 'promoted'; promoted is basically making everyone aware that 'Hey, this is an awesome story with an awesome translator who is dedicated and high quality; check it out, you'll like it!'  If it's a terrible story, then it makes no sense to 'promote' it, right?  :)
  • I would love to see Douluo Dalu here on wuxiaworld, I love the story and probably faster updates because of the donation system would be nice.
Perhaps RWX can convince the translator from bluesilvertranslations.wordpress.com ? Not sure if he would be interested though =/
  • Just wantetd to ask.
are there already any novels in consideration for the front page? i mean child of light alredy has like 40 something chapters and the grae ruler too.
are there any plans fpr them or are you still evaluating?
  • I'm pretty sure Ren mentioned he will consider several factors before deciding whether to 'promote' a novel or not, like:
    - Release consistency
    - Story quality
    - Translation quality
    - and maybe the novel popularity in the forum too.

So, I think that even if the story is good and popular and released regularly, but if the translation quality is bad, it won't get 'promoted'. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  • Lingson is correct.  And honestly, I just got in Vietnam like two days ago...give me a break and some time to settle in before I start onboarding anything xD
  • Ren for OVERLORD!!! Thats all :P good luck getting moved in i'll actually be moving to michigan soon god i hate moving but yeah but personally i think you have a few that are worthy of being moved to the main site :)
  • Hello Ren,
I have a question I would like to translate the novels such as Btth, De, CD, Issth, MgA, AtG into German and give the wuxia and xianxia a wider fanbase in other countries too.
I've been captured by the story's and can only tell all translators and you my respects to what you all have achieved and giving me the opportunity to read dreams come true. :)
  • Hello ren.
    I like cut immortal/beheading immortal.
Is there nobody want to do the translation?
    I like that novel lol.
  • Hello Ren i know this is unnecessary but i was hoping i could suggest a Chinese Light Novel that should be translated, the novel is The Douluo Dalu 2 - The Unrivaled Tang Clan, Douluo Dalu 3 currently Bagelson is working on the first novel Douluo Dalu and the others have no translators. Even if you include Pandafuq of Pandatranslations
he does not seem to have enough time to translate it properly so I was hoping after your current project you would consider translating the total 600+ Chapters.

I only knew about Pandatranslations homepage did not think others started after he went afk thanks. but 3 still needs a translater anyway

  • Xian Ni is a good fit for Wuxiaworld.

Same author as I Shall Seal the Heavens.

fivestarspecialists retranslation (the older translation by Void was machine translated) is at chapter 27 right now.  Maybe Xian Ni will get the nod when it is at 50+ chapters.

  • Actually, it becomes horrible later on and the retranslations are not far enough yet. They probably need 40 more chapters before being promoted.

    Hi,
First, i love this site, as it inspired me to pick up my native language and provided me the motivation to start reading the raws after the antagonizing wait for new releases xD
    so thanks Ren :)

As for my question, i came across some Chinese light novel that is part comedy, part wuxia style cultivation, and part magic. (I wanted to share works like this, not for any other purpose other than just purely so that there is a translation for it.) I was wondering if translating works that are not completely in line with Wuxia or EastFantasy is okay for the forums.

Since the audience here enjoy wuxia style books, but some of these contain none serious training but mostly comedy, i am not sure if the genre is okay.

Thanks for whoever can enlighten me.

Here is a link to the raw, as i am not sure if works such as this is okay to be translated for this site: http://book.sfacg.com/Novel/42229/

    Thanks again :)
