Original Stories Rules!

It's highly unlikely that Ren will respond to you in this thread, however, I am quite sure I can provide a reliable answer to your question.

You can add a link to your site in the story thread you can make on those forums (original stories section, right here), but you need to post actual chapters, not just prequel or only a link to your personal site. Whether you add links to WW on your personal site doesn't have anything to do with that.

If you'd like more chapters of ISSI or Tales send me a note on patreon!
  • Were any Original Stories ever promoted to a front page? If so, could anyone link me.
  • Nope, none were ever. A lot of the more successful writers ended up moving to other sites. However, if you really do commit, Ren could potentially still promote.

Ah okay. Well I intend to commit to my story, but at what level it would be at, I doubt it could really be as good as one that would be able to be displayed. I'm quite confident in my skill, but my experience is truly inferior.
  • Oh, I understand completely. It's fine. As long as you keep writing you'll develop your own style. Like when I started, I copied stuff from avatar, kingdom, cd, etc. etc. But now a year later I've begun working on my own style, and it's pretty unique and I'm happy with it. And honestly, if you were to be promoted to the front page of WuxiaWorld, you should be able to earn some steady money while continuing to improve yourself, so it's honestly worth it to keep writing and hope. The forums is also a good place for you to get feedback from readers. One of my greatest regrets in moving off of the forums with my first novel was that the amount of input I got as to what I was doing correctly to engage readers and what I was doing wrongly basically went to zero.

I feel you. I'm basically doing the same, but my naming is far from great and therefore lacking. However I will keep writing on the story as I feel it's fairly okay, and I have faint sense of the plot being somewhat different but still good. Hope to recieve more feedback in the future.
  • Is the PG-13 rule just to keep the pornos at bay or does it also limit violence?

It is generally more geared toward censoring erotic content, yes. however, I imagine many people would find detailed torture scenes too gruesome to read, so don't get too violent either. just think, what is acceptable to be viewed on normal television? there is still a lot of violence and sexual content available to the public, it it is just not overly explicit.

Okay so, what does PG-13 actually mean? lol  Like, if there's lots of profanity, vulgarity and violence, but no actual sex, does that still fall under the criteria?  For example, my stories "Hardcore OP-ness" and "The Dao of Eros" don't really have any sexual content until pretty far into the stories.  Could I post the first few dozen chapters that don't have sex in them or is the profanity a big deal? :)

The dao of eros was the only link that worked for me, so i just gave it a quick look over two or three chapters. just the cussing alone is fine, though there was way more cussing than what i normally am fine with reading. then, i checked out that chapter 27 you have a disclaimer for, that is definitely getting explicit and i personally believe that is mature content. this brings to light again the major problem without having any official designation of pg-13, it is mostly based on personal prefrence on what is and isn't 'explicit'. beyond that, there is a rule that you need to post your entire story on the forum and not just give a link to another site. I don't have the authority to 'permit' you to put up the first dozen chapters and then say there is explicit content further on so read it on your site instead. I haven't seen ren post here much so you may just have get some type of consensus from the community to allow you to do that.
  • Profanity I think is ok. Porno, no.

I have read a fair few chapters of hardcore opness and the dao of eros and they are both very much explicit in many ways. Your disclaimers are good but i don't think this site's or royalroad's users are fans of novels like yours. I also very much they would fit into PG-13 in any way as there are jokes referencing child abuse, descriptions of sex play in a child's body, necrophilia references and described scenes, various scenes related to porn like stuff, various descriptions of violence and gore and much more.

I also would not recommend slicing out this content if it is required for you to post your stories here as the explicit content is built into your stories especially in the case of hardcore op ness in the MC's relationships and overall personality. It is the same with the dao of eros as all the MC talks about is related to sex or some other inappropriate story element in some way. The people who wanna read your style of story like me will go to your site to read it and the curious in this thread will check out your stories and read the disclaimers and see if your stories are for them. Here is working link your other linked story by the way: Hardcore OP-ness | Mike777ac and for anyone to find Mike's link to the other story of his he mentioned, here ya go: The Dao of Eros | Mike777ac
  • Is this event still active? The curated Wuxiaworld section? Or not... I've seen sooo many other authors post their writing here with few comments, and I just started recently. Is it, or no?

I would say to not expect anything out of this. Either Ren has too much on his plate to consider any of the stories or he simply doesn't see one he wants to endorse yet. Either way, consider this place as another spot to extend your reader base. I would say that you should not make this your primary base for your works as there are no visible rating systems that can help you identify what you are doing well and what you are not. For me, personally, Royal Road has been so much more rewarding in responses from readers and actual reviews of your work.
  • To be fair, we're all amateur writers who are struggling to write our first books :)
  • I just post mine everywhere to get more readers lol...
  • Yikes, doesn't that get annoying?
  • Yea it does...especially when i do mass releases
  • hey guys. I have been away for some time would like to say this part of the forum has grown. nice to see some people still her continuing the journey.
  • I havent done mass releases in like half a year. Can't really imagine doing them again yikes.

    And hi fellow daoist

Mass release...like 10+ chapters in one go? Wouldn't that be better if you want to do final touches? THe only issue is making your readers wait that long to read your work.

  • ^that tense change tho

Well mass releases can be useful in other ways, like maybe you have enough time to write like 1.3 chapters a day. You could just release 1 chapter a day and then save up a few chapters to do a mass release to surprise your readers with. It's something I used to do when I was actually an active writer and not a derp who writes for 30 minutes on Saturdays because his hands hurt and his mind is tired from work.
  • I see. I might do that for next week. Have about 6 days off from uni thanks to holidays.

  • Maybe we frequenters of the original stories section could start some events to get more people writing in here - I think that the competition would be healthy for the section, as it's kind of becoming a rather stale.
  • Yup...well I try to update daily. Almost missed today. XD About those competitions...I do not know how to uphold them. Perhaps have everyone read the works of one another...but soo many chapters. Or make a side story of a current wuxiaworld novel and gauge accordingly. Say ISSTH. We could do that...I am not sure. I have waited for the curated Wuxia section and now just use this as another platform. It's fine by me.

  • I've been working on a novel of my own but atm I'm mainly working on creating the world and the cultivation system so that while writing later I can be as coherent as possible from start to finish. I'm also planning ahead a lot of element that should arrise in the story in order to have a general idea of everything before I start (Deformation of a Dungeon Master in RPG ^^)

Initialy I'm writing in french but I strongly intent to translate it in english as well
  • Okay, that's great!
I was thinking of getting my work translated over also professionally if the English copies sold well.

Professionally because it will make it flow more.

    I don't trust machine translations.

Wouldn't it be odd if the Chinese bought my books? O.o

Damn, no one's been promoted yet? At the time when I was active here, totally thought Caladbolg would have been promoted. He was going hard. The dedication threshold seems pretty high...
  • Speaking of Caladbolg... where did he go even?
  • did you hear the news?

this might be the reason nobody is getting promoted yet because of how busy ren is!

anyway i hope when they get an assistant they can now atleast promote some original novels
