Original Stories Rules!

Interested in having your original stories brought to a wider audience?  In the future, Wuxiaworld, in addition to translations, may begin to open up a curated selection of 'Wuxiaworld Originals'.  These will be hosted on the front page of the website proper at www.wuxiaworld.com, under an 'originals' dropdown, and the authors will get a share of Wuxiaworld ad revenue!  Please note, however, that while anyone can post their original writing here, the 'Wuxiaworld Originals' section on the website will be a CURATED selection, meaning that not just any of the works here would be accepted; quality, consistency, and a number of other factors will play a role, and the decision is solely at the discretion of Wuxiaworld staff (meaning me xD).  Meanwhile, sharpen your writing chops here!

Please note that the ONLY new discussions that should be created are the actual story threads; discussions should be held within each story thread or elsewhere!  Thanks for your cooperation!  As always, please make sure you only post your own works here, and not any works from someone else without permission!

Limited to PG-13 only - no pornos, please!  xD

  • Hello Ren, is there any restriction about genre/not being posted in other site (like RRL) or stuff like that?
  • Does it have to be Wuxia/Xianxia? Or can I just do a regular fantasy story?
  • No genre restrictions!  I'm ok with it being posted on other sites as well, as long as you are posting actual content, not just the link!  :)
  • So can they just transfer their stories over to this forum?
  • Do we make a new thread for each chapter or do we post it all in one thread?
  • Nevermind Ren already answered; one thread for each series.
  • I messed up and posed more than one thread and I'm trying to get rid of them, but I can't edit them into nothing b/c edit doesn't work.
  • It says page not found
  • So is this the new chinese version of Japtem and Royal Road?
  • Ren, what do you think about creating 'subthread' instead of normal thread for every new fiction here, in future? It would look a lot more clean compared to a la'SpecNet version that is being used now, i think ~ At least it would let me put my FAQ and then Chapters in separate parts :P /// Duh, Duh, one more thing, if one set's up their own 'donation button' (like it's commonly done in RR) in their fiction on those forums of yours, is that fine, or not? ~ Yeah, questions, we need FAQ here, too :D
If you'd like more chapters of ISSI or Tales send me a note on patreon!
  • If you post a story in the forum, is there a way to turn off comments? I know that seems like defeating the purpose of a forum in the first place, but hear me out!
I feel like the break between chapters being filled with people's comments might get a bit disconcerting. It would be easier to have a separate thread for discussion of the novel I think, and would let you read the whole story more easily.
  • sounds like fun. too bad most of my stories are incomplete oneshot short-stories... and i get too depressed and stressed over life to keep up my writing long enough to empty my head of all the idea's bouncing around in there :S
  • I know that feeling Sylvie-nee-chan ^.^ I have thought about numerous stories and started writing them down, but always stopped at some point xD Maye now i will go through with it fully :)

  • what about if a story gets over a certain amount of chapters and is put to a poll and gets a certain number of votes his story can be moved to a viewable platform like your other stories? i know your others are translations whilst these are artists own creations BUT maybe give them a stock standard contents page if they get a certain criteria? say 50 chapters and 500 people read it regularly. then their story can be viewed with ease rather than scrolling thru trying to find them but a brief synopsis and chapter list would allow the readers a seamless transition to reading the stories. the japtem site can be chaotic at best this way your staples can bring in viewers and everybody can be happy.
  • Caladbolg, the issue is that the number of subthreads would quickly rise to an astonishing and stupendous level, I think.

jiriky102, the 'viewable platform' will be the actual wuxiaworld.com!  But the standards will be very, very high and stringent in terms of quality.
  • I think you should have higher standards so im forced to try harder teheheh... But really good job here im liking it more and more.... Maybe you can add a "most poppular" button so you can easily view the hottest threads?
  • Yes, the standards for the 'front' of Wuxiaworld will be very, very high...as in, I'm convinced it's on par or close to being on par with the translated works we are doing ;)
  • Can you make a requirement for the author to post a synopsis? I mean, even if it's a crappy one I'd at least like to know what type of story I'm going to read without having to read a chapter or two.
  • Well im excited!! Am seeing some good works so far... But just wait guys hehehhe....also if anyone else agrees i think we should start a thread for proofreading/ editing for original works as well for those in need of assistance... I know i wont mind lending my knowledge!

Is it fine to add PG15 like in MGA, with proper tags for people who don't want to read those parts of chapters? I might include those things later in the stroy (still far away from it, heh), and keeping yourself to PG13 is just... Sad... Like in CD, heh. Would rather like to go closer to MGA with it.

50 chapters and 500 consistent readers is painfully easy. Look at RRL, any story with over 5 chapters and is half decent already has more than 500 consistent readers. Granted, RRL is focused on user fictions rather than translations. But still an easy goal. Perhaps having 10 chapters (or 20 if the chapters are really short) and meeting the quality requirements of the staff would be a better goal.
  • RXW or some of the other staff, could you read through some of these stories and give us some feedback? I'd rather see a few stories crushed early on instead of them writing 50 chapters then finding out there's not enough quality. Plus I feel like a few of the stories might meet your quality prerequisites already.
  • On second thought, if you do give someone feedback can you email it or something like that. Like someone said earlier, breaks between chapters are kinda awkward.
  • PG15 fine.

I just want to make something clear; the standards for original stories will be REALLY high, higher than for translations, for a simple reason; I want every single 'project' being worked on at Wuxiaworld to eventually be completed.  If one of the other translators gets tired of a translation, I (or someone else) can pick it up, but there's no way I can pick up an original fiction from someone else.  There's a reason Wuxiaworld has six translation projects, and adds one just every 1-2 months; it isn't that people don't want to join, it's that I like to watch and observe for a long time to get a sense of long-term quality and commitment.

You should be writing here because you like it, not necessarily because the goal is to get 'on the front page', because that's going to be really rare, probably also along the lines of one or two every month or two, unless something really blows me away.

    Hope this helps, guys.
  • RWX, is there any way to notify people when new chapters are up, besides personally sending messages to everyone?

It's somewhat inconvenient for me if I do that, since I like to keep my readers informed. ;w
  • DarkAbsolute, not at present!  Don't worry, if it's good and they like it, they'll be keeping close watch on your thread, I promise xD

Thank you for saying this. The main reason that I'm writing my story is because I just want people to enjoy a story. I don't care if my series gets well-known. It would be nice if it did, but I'm content if, even if only a few, people simply enjoy it. Now I seriously need to get back to typing.

    Still procrastinating.
  • @DarkAbsolute, If your readers like it, they can bookmark the thread, and they'll be able to access it easily. They can also subscribe to each category, in their user preferences.

I don't know if, with enough time, we'll be able to find better ways to notify the users, but at the present there isn't anything like that.

@Yn5an3, alright, thanks for the info! Hopefully they add a message all button or something like that and/or I can make a bot that sends chapter notifications out :P

@DarkAbsolute Wouldn't a twitter account be easier than a bot? Also, we are deviating from the original thread. xD
