  • Jiang Xiao Han just reappeared in today's chapters, where we find out that she's become the disciple of one of the invading demons from another world. (Figures that someone like her would become the disciple of someone like that >_>)

Bai Yu Qing is the disciple of another hidden master, but this one's a human and a halfway decent person.

Song Xiao Jun also reappeared about a week ago, and she's again lost all her memories. She seriously tried to kill Ye Qing Yu when she saw him, and he had to be saved by someone since he refused to fight back. (She'd lost her memories after leaving the school, but had slowly rebuilt a friendly relationship with our protagonist through their encounters since. She's now lost those memories, and any semblance of humanity she had left. She's also a lot stronger, which leads Ye Qing Yu to hypothesize that her memories might completely reset every time her powers grow.)

In terms of a love interest, while there really isn't anyone that counts, the closest is probably Xing Er, the princess of the country he lives in.

Oh he has a thing for the princess? Okay thank god. I thought he was going to get with the loli.

Not really. I did say no one really counts. She's just the closest thing because 1) she gave him something that members of the royal family are only ever supposed to give the person they marry (no, it's not what you're thinking :P), 2) there was a period of time they were running around together where everyone assumed they were together and he didn't mind, and 3) even if he doesn't seem particularly romantically interested in her, she seems to be interested in him.

In comparison, the only other person who could conceivably even be a candidate - Song Xiao Jun - just seems to be a really good friend to him. The way he reacted when he met her again and she'd forgotten him for the second time just didn't convey any sense of romantic feeling at all. (He wasn't "hurt" [emotionally speaking], just shocked more than anything.)
  • :|...

This series love trolling readers who are interested in this aspect, wth.

They should just remove the romance tag honestly.
  • So nothing happens between Bai Yu Qing and MC? what age is he currently, hoping its been a few years so Song Xiao Jun might not exactly be a loli anymore.
  • Yeah, this isn't the series to read if you're interested in romantic development.

Unfortunately, as someone who cares about that a lot in stories I read, I have to say that it's extremely rare to find good romantic development in Chinese WNs - and as someone who can read Chinese, believe me, I've been looking! It's very often an afterthought and meant to be a reflection of the protagonist's "ultimate badassness" more than anything. More specifically, the "conquest" of women is usually done only to show how awesome the protagonist is (look, he conquered this super awesome, super hot girl! zomg!) instead of any desire on the author's part to actually depict a real relationship. Literal trophy wives, if you get what I mean.

I don't know if it's the authors' fault, or the readers' fault and authors are just giving readers what they want, but I've found that the most popular series tend to be pretty one dimensional. In xianxia and xuanhuan, for example, the focus is often entirely on training and fighting. Character development of any kind, let alone romantic development, usually takes up only a few chapters every hundred or so - if that. This is why I get so tired of these series after they start hitting like 1000 chapters. At first they're fun, but after seeing the same pattern for the nth time of [training arc -> antagonist doesn't know their place and pisses off the protagonist -> protagonist reveals his skills to the amazement of all -> return to step 1], they just become stupid. I can't stay interested in a story like that.

As another example going the other direction, the 都市 genre, which, unlike xianxia and xuanhuan, has harems more often than not, usually involves a bunch of shallow women who are basically the story equivalents of one-night stands. They're there to get saved and sleep with the protagonist and then are never seen again.

Stories where relationships both develop organically and are a focus of the narrative are very far and few between, and they tend to be (in my opinion), usually the best ones. ATG is a great example of that. On that note, if anyone has recommendations for series (non-translated ones), I'm all ears.

So nothing happens between Bai Yu Qing and MC? what age is he currently, hoping its been a few years so Song Xiao Jun might not exactly be a loli anymore.
Nope, nothing romantic anyway. And yeah, as of their most current meeting, she's not a loli anymore. This is the description from chapter 461: "時隔一年,宋小君的身體又育了不少,如今看著已經完全是一個大姑娘了,個頭高了不少,身段也長開了,昔日平平的胸部,如今也開始微微鼓起,如微聳的小山丘,腰肢纖細,雙腿圓潤修長,開始有了少女與生俱來的風情,宛如一朵即將綻放的花骨朵一樣,已經可以讓人預見到她綻放時候,那絕世無雙的美麗。"

"A year having past since he'd last seen her, Song Xiao Jun had visibly matured, and appearing before him now was a young lady. She'd grown quite a bit taller, and her figure had developed. Her chest, previously flat as a board, had begun to swell ever so slightly, like the gentle slope of a hill and her slender waist led into long, full legs. Like a budding flower about to bloom into full blossom, she'd begun to display an innate femininity that left no doubt that she would eventually grow into a beauty without equal."

Okay I can deal with her now.
    Thanks

It pretty much did something for the first time a few chapters ago, demonstrating how special it is for the first time. (Ye Qing Yu got punished by the heavens, which struck him with lightning over and over. He would have died, so the dog stepped in to literally eat some of the lightning, which saved him. It was severely wounded in the process.)

Damn a heaven-defying dog lol, thanks for the answer. also what the hell did Ye Qingyu did to defy the heavens?
  • Damn a heaven-defying dog lol, thanks for the answer. also what the hell did Ye Qingyu did to defy the heavens?

Short answer, their world has a system where, to prevent the destruction of the land itself, people with powers beyond a certain level must go to the upper atmosphere to fight. If you fight too close to the ground, then the world will kill you itself. Ye Qing Yu was forced to power up past that point and fight, and was punished by the world as a result.

This all plays heavily into the current arc itself, which is the first one of this series to really engage in significant plot development. I'll put some pretty major spoilers here, but since I don't see a spoiler tag, I've put the spoilers in white-on-white text. Highlight after the lead if you want to see.

--- Major, major spoilers after here (multiple paragraphs) ---
The series is currently in the phase all series of this nature eventually reach, where the scope of the series shifts from focusing solely on the homeworld of the protagonist to including other worlds.

First, a little background necessary to understand: in this series, the various worlds of the universe are, at times, randomly connected via a set of world gates. Their world has a handful of small, unstable gates and one large, stable gate. The larger and more stable the gate, the more people that can pass through the gate and the stronger they can be. 100 years ago, the large gate in their world opened up, and a horde of demons from another world streamed through to invade their world. A number of super strong heroes gathered to repel the invasion and seal the gate, which they did. They later became the founders of the kingdom in which YQY lives.

Anyway, fast forward to the present day, and Ye Qing Yu has become the new lord of the Palace of Light, which was founded by the leader of the force which fought off the demons, but which has basically fallen into ruin since. (Of that force, aside from a handful who became the royal family of the kingdom itself, the other heroes have vanished without a trace.) He manages to antagonize the chancellor/prime minister of the kingdom, which causes the latter to send an army to attack the Palace of Light. Because the Palace of Light houses numerous treasures captured during the war within its treasury, everyone wants a piece of the action, and so all the hidden forces in their world start to unveil themselves and break off into two sides: one side protecting the Palace of Light, and the other side attacking it.

Skipping ahead past a lot of the fighting, we find out that there's more to it than just wanting to steal what's inside the Palace of Light. It turns out that some of the demons that were killed during the war a hundred years ago are still around, although they're literally a shadow of their former selves. (Jiang Xiao Han has become a student of one of them.) Their plan is to attack the Palace of Light, which happens to sit on the gateway between worlds, and re-establish the path back to their home world, whereupon a new army of demons will stream through and pillage the MC's planet. We find out that the two leaders of the two major rebellious factions within the government - the Emperor's brother and the chancellor - are working for two different demons.

Ye Qing Yu, both as a person who loves his country and world, and as the new lord of the Palace of Light, of course, isn't going to let that just happen. As the demons are focused on fighting each other (each wants their own clan to be the one that seizes control of the gate) and trying to force the gate to open early, he uses every single trump card in his arsenal in an attempt to take them and the gate down, and it's the unleashing of that power that causes him to fall victim to the world system just before he reaches the gate. He nearly dies, but is saved by two pets that he keeps at his side (the dog and a small silver dragon). One eats the lightning that comes at him, nearly dying in the process, and the other freezes his body into a state of suspended animation, literally inches from death. The planet, sensing that his lifesigns have vanished, ceases its attack.

Though failing to close the gate, he has interrupted the demons, which now change their target. Hordes of demons, as well as the hidden human powers, from all over their country pour forth and try to break into the Palace treasury. Various traps left behind by the original lord of the Palace activate, and they're all killed... except for the Emperor's brother and the chancellor who emerge unscathed.

Turns out it's all been a setup. They've been loyal the whole time, and this entire thing has been an elaborate scheme devised for countless years to draw out and eradicate the remaining demons and rebellious human forces that were left in their country/world. Moreover, they took the opportunity while everyone's attention was drawn away, to invade the small outposts of otherworldly forces that had been set up around the small gates to destroy those gates, meaning now there's just the one. Unfortunately, that one large, stable gate is a naturally occurring one, and there's no way to prevent its opening (they've only delayed it a few months). Moreover, once it opens, there's no way to close it again. Since the gates connect randomly, they have no way of knowing if it'll connect to a friendly or antagonistic world, but they plan to use the next few months to prepare. They heave a collective sigh of relief until...

An Imperial handmaiden, Lu Heng, whose status is higher than theirs, but is basically a secret, reveals that they're in deep trouble because Ye Qing Yu's almost dead and all of their lives are on the chopping block unless they can figure something out. Everyone is shocked, because while he's basically a young hero, he's not really anyone that special. Well, turns out he's somehow closely related to Yu Jun Han, one of the leaders from 100 years ago, the strongest person currently in their world, and the wife of the leader (who is known as the War God). (Lu Heng's status is so high because she's the childhood friend and handmaiden of Yu Jun Han). This was the most recent chapter, so we still haven't explicitly been told what his relationship is, but between this chapter and the chapter where YQY first met Yu Jun Han, the author strongly implies that she and the War God were YQY's actual parents.

Also in the last chapter, for those who are interested in romantic developments. The princess, Xing Er, returning from an assault on one of the small gates, makes a mad rush for the room where YQY is currently in stasis, and feels her heart break when she realizes what's happened. Freaking out, she is knocked out by Lu Heng to calm her down. Just then, a torrent of red energy (it's not explicitly stated in this chapter, but it should be Song Xiao Jun), crashes out of the sky and similarly charges toward the room that he's in. (And that's the end of today's chapter.)

So the plot became really complicated ... oh god, well at least is better than 7-% of the CNs out there...

Just a question... and this one isn't so far away in the chapters ( i guess ) ,  in white deer city there was several enimies that YQY had to face... like Qin family, that Liu family and a whole bunch of nobles snobs... how does he deal with them?
  • I really didnt see that fact betrayal coming. That's some good ass scheming. Whoever in the heavens in charge of the planet system they are going to get hell in the future. I wouldnt be surprised if the pet that ate the lightning have an affinity for that now.
  • Wow thanks for that spoiler, didn't see that coming. Quick question, what happened to Yan Xingtian? also what happens after the current arc?

Does that mean the lil loli regained her memories?

Turns out she was in on it all, and was faking when she attacked him. (She's retained the memories she's gained since losing her original set, but still has yet to regain her first memories of him.) She got incredibly angry when she found out that he'd been hurt because she'd only agreed to help on the condition that he remain unharmed. She then tried to forcibly bring him back to her city, but was stopped by Yu Jun Han who, as expected, is his mother.

On a side note, but related, the author has now made it explicitly clear that both Song Xiao Jun and Yu Xiao Xing (Xing Er) like him. Also went on to say that YQY is more concerned with helping SXJ regain her memories, and when it came to Xing Er, it was just a "..." and then a comment that he seems to have a proclivity for attracting girls with the "Xiao (小)" character in their name.

It's hard to say because the author's definitely gone out of his way to state several times that he doesn't really view Song Xiao Jun in that way (at least not at the moment). His relationship with Xing Er is clearly different, but it's hard to say what exactly their relationship is because the author keeps teasing, e.g. explicitly saying that his concerned with SXJ was her memories, but when it came to Xing Er, it was just a "..." (that was so maddening since I like Xing Er).

As for the curse, I honestly don't remember lol. I skimmed through a number of chapters in the middle since I didn't find them particularly interesting.

Curse only appears if you forcefully take the Dog, it chose to go with YQY willingly, so hes safe.

i thought his mother/father died didn't they !?was he adopted !?
Story behind his birth is still a mystery. We only know that his biological parents are Yu Jun Han and the War God. Even now that he's recovered, he still has yet to have had a real discussion with his mom about the details since neither of them seem to want to have that conversation. There's another wrinkle in that story too, which is that the War God vanished a hundred years ago, and so Ye Qing Yu should be a hundred years old, but he's clearly not.

Continuing on the note of his biological parents, his bloodline is definitely a major factor in why he's so strong. For context, in their world, a 登天-level cultivator is basically the strongest they get because their world is new and weak - that's the level you need to be to trigger the world's punishment system. Well, when his mother saved him, she used her blood to restore his body, and apparently each drop of her blood holds power equivalent to the full-power attack of a 登天-level cultivator. As for the War God, we still don't know really know any details about his strength, but we know it's far beyond his wife's (YQY's mother).

Their background itself is a huge question mark in the story still. We know that the way his parents originally met was that his father had been punished by the same divine lightning YQY was, and that she saved him just as she did her son. We also know that his father apparently knows all sorts of things about the other worlds and that most of what little they know was knowledge imparted to them by him. This seems to suggest that YQY's biological father was probably from another world.

    ---

As for what's happened in the plot the last few days, not too much except that we've discovered that what we were previously told about the gateway in their world was wrong. It's now opened, and it turns out it's basically a Stargate. It comes accompanied by a map of the planets it can connect to, and travel between their world and those it's linked to can happen at will using the gate. As of the current raws, however, they still have yet to visit another world or be visited by other worlds.
  • Anyone one have some spoilers for the fiendgod book he has i.e. weapons, techniques, and the like?
  • Wait this is confusing his parents are dead he buried them he stood there for 4 years how the hell they pull that off?and if they weren't there what kind sick parents make there son stand in there grave and faked there death?
  • Did he ever get them 3 golden balls back he gave to his teacher that left the Academy? If so what do they do.
