Story of Destruction Mentioned in Starting Chapters

There was this small mentioned of really giant creatures destroying the world, if I remember there was this dragon trying its last to defend that world but failed and the world got destroyed.

I have completed the novel but I think I missed that link, were those things reapers? Because of they were then reapers that Richard fought against were not that big as mentioned in early chapter.

    Those were shadow beasts that were drawn to his soul. He fought them a few times in the novel by himself while he was weaker before finally growing powerful enough to summon them as his own warriors to fight.

    Nah, pretty sure the prologue enemies were reapers.
