Interpretations/Speculations

Hello,
I just read the latest translated chapters of GOR and hoped for some discussions or speculations on the forum.
Sadly there is not much going on in the GOR threads, so i am just going to post my own Interpretations
of the main story(up to chapter 401) and hope for some readers to join in.
In my eyes , the story so far is great with a lot of mystery and compelling story line.

The following aspects I interpret as current facts, given by the story or believed by the characters.
This certainly contains SPOILERS.
Of course they might turn out to be wrong in the future.
If you find fault, you are welcome to correct me, since i might be mistaken.
I will try to structure the following as good as i can, to make discussions easier.

1.The World:

1.1.The World the main character lives in(similar to our world), is "supposed" to be a virtual world,
created by the developer team of a higher/"real" plane/world. It is used for a setting similar to a mmorpg sandbox.

1.2.The World of the developer team is the big mistery of the novel, any kind of information(given by players) about it gets directly blocked/erased
by the system. The Awakened who manage to acquire information can not remember or record any of it. But the novel characters are capable of speculating
about it. So far, most things known to us are speculations by the Protagonist or other Awakened.

1.3.It is uncertain how the flow of time in the "game" world is comparable to the "real" world. Players and Awakened existed since ancient times, so either the game exists already for that long in the real world , or the time inside of the game gets speed up by the developers. Also Miao Yan is capable of entering her account in a short time if her NPC is in danger, which should be a clue.

1.4.The humans in this world are viewed as NPCs,personalities created by the game system, comparable to AI.
Their purpose is to fill the world, be characters/props in quests and most important, be the access to the world for the
Players.

1.5.According to GM , the game world follows a script with a questline that Players try to complete. If they manage to complete all quests , then the world gets reset and will start over. The main goal of Awakened and Irregularities should be, to hinder the Players to avoid a reset.

1.6.Game Master(GM) or "God" is sentient and the administration program for the world. He can acces and control any NPC (and maybe awakened)
directly (taking over the body) or indirectly by influencing their choices(Punishment dungeon). He gains the knowledge of anything happening in the world , but seems to be uncapable of monitoring Irregularities like our MC or Mr. San.He does not have acces to any information about the higher plane. The developer team seems to reset him or rather his "personality". His main goal is to avoid this reset , as he believes that it is similar to death. After the meeting with Mr. San it is known that he has been reset at least once already and lost all of his memories.

1.7. A huge Plot revolves around the World Tree and World Tree seeds. Miao collects the seeds and Mr. San mentions the World Tree to the Developer Inspector.

1.8. Players and Awakened have acces to the system, which allows them to spend their points in a shop to gain items, skills etc. Those items are not comparable to the current state of development, including technology known of scifi movies. Points are distributed by the system for completing Dungeons and finishing Achievements.

1.9. It is possible to create items from the shop or dungeons with enough understanding without spending Points.(Build your own Mechs like in Zero City)

1.10. Items, skills, stats, pets and etc, are ranked like in a ordinary game up to S ranked and maybe higher.

1.11. When a Awakened (not certain about Players) enters his first instance , he is capable of choosing one of three random start skills. Those skills can be very different in grade and growth.

2.Players

2.1.The Players are currently the main antagonists, they enter the world through NPCs for quests and entertainment.

2.2. It is currently unknown , what happens to Players that die "ingame".People believe they might die for real or their account gets deleted. The latest Player City (like Zero City) might mean that Players try desperately their best to live/survive in the game world as long as possible.

2.3. Player accounts have their own rankings in the world, receiving different kinds of benefits.
The lower ones have to play as the NPC given by the system, the appearance of the NPC does not change.
The middle ones can change the appearance to their liked settings and will appear every dungeon the same.
The higher ones have specially designed NPCs from the developers , the NPCs can only be used exclusively by the owner of the account.

2.4. Only high ranking accounts are capable of using their personal NPC to enter the game at any time, to do what ever they desire. Ordinary accounts of Players seem to be only allowed to play in the instance dungeons. Miao Yan enjoys the world and even likes to do ordinary things , like combing her NPC hair.

2.5. It is unknown if the NPC of Augustine Shen has his own personality like the one of Miao Yan.

2.6. The high ranking accounts(VIP) of Miao Yan and Augustine Shen(Thorned Flower Guildleader)are currently the only known VIPs in the story.

2.7. Miao Yan has direct contact with the developers and can ask them to change/repair/reset things in the game.

2.8. Those VIP accounts are targets for Awakened. But they can be reset just as any other NPC , so this is kinda pointless and deadly.

2.9. Chen Xiaolian believes , players are very similar to humans and used themselves as template for the NPC design. Also he believes , that Players do not have acces to Magic similar things in their world , as they would not need to "play" a game if that would be the case.

2.10. Players have a lot more benefits than Awakened. They have special Resource Dungeons , not accessible by Awakened. Punishment Dungeons for not completing a quest do not exist for players.

2.11. Players usually enter a Instance Dungeon later than the Awakened. The Punishment Dungeon showed us a special waiting room for the Players.

2.12. Players do not know if a unknown person is a Player or an Awakened. Awakened can hide beside Players with a bit of acting and survive their first Dungeon this way.

3. Awakened

3.1 Other NPCs or Awakened get viewed as part of the game, players do not regard them as "real" persons, more like smart AIs for their amusement.

3.2. Awakened can be considered as a bug, one that started since the very early start of the "game world".Since the developer could not stop them from appearing , they decided to keep them as a part of the game, a competition for their Players.

3.3.An Awakened appears, when a Players fails to connect to his designated NPC for a dungeon instance, that NPC gets "awakened" and receives acces to the system. It appears like the NPC occupies his own log in from this point on, like a player. If he manages to survive his first dungeon , then he does not reset and lives on as Awakened.

3.4.The Awakened forgets his first instance dungeon for the first few days and remembers later. Not certain if this was the plot at the start or signifies something more important.

3.5. One of the earliest group of Awakened seems to be Mr. San and his guild.

3.6. Awakened are forced to enter instance dungeons,by the system.

3.7. For not completing a instance dungeon, the Awakened has to enter a punishment dungeon.

3.8.Awakened are not allowed to use anything higher then B rank outside of a dungeon, damages and memories get resets if this happens. Awakened also get punished for doing so , but i am not certain how, beside being reset to a ordinary NPC. Chen Xiaolian seems to be excluded from this rule as Irregularity.

3.9.It is possible to trade points and items.

3.10. Killing other Awakened or Players seems to be encouraged. People can "loot" others after doing so.

3.11. Telling normal NPCs about the system and world seems to be possible without consequences. But this might be limited to a small circle.

3.12. If an Awakened dies, he resets to a NPC, without knowledge of his time as Awakened. His memories are altered and the system "creates" a fitting timeline.
The Awakened keeps his age.

4. Instance Dungeons

4.1. Instance Dungeons have different settings and rules.

4.2. Ordinary Instance Dungeons have a questline.

4.3.Once a Instance dungeon starts, the designated area of the dungeon gets separated from the main world. Time flows different and after the quest is completed or failed , the area gets reset to the ordinary. NPCs lose their memories about anything happening in the instance and get revived if they have died. There seems to be a exeption for certain quests(the terrorist flight), for those the world does not create an exclusive instance or resets the participating NPCs and area.

4.4. Items beside the designated rewards of the quest can be taken out of the dungeon. For normal items this includes weapons and money. There also exist special items , like the jade coffin.

4.5. The development team uses punishment dungeons for Awakened to weed out the weak Awakened.

4.6. Punishment Dungeons are still ordinary dungeons , only the "acces" for Players has been blocked.

4.7. Special Items (for now cards) exist to alter certain aspects of the dungeon. Chen can his exemption card to be excluded from attacks for 30 minutes.Tian Lie used the hunt prolonging card.

4.8. A dungeons difficulty changes depending on the classification of its competitors.

4.9. Dungeons can have storylines building up on legends or the past.

4.10. Dungeons can place restrictions on certain items , till now only technological type. The usage is not possible at all or the usage is less effective and costs more stamina.

4.11. Rewards for completing the dungeon depends on the attempting group.

4.12. GM is not capable of interfering with instances.

4.13. The development teams sends inspectors to test their quests.

4.14. Awakened and Players can be grouped to gather for factions quests and would need to work together.

4.15. Dungeons can repeat themselves, the London Dungeon questline has been exactly the same ,as Tian has experienced it before. This cycle has been broken by Chen , or rather his "pet". It is uncertain how this can affect the future of the dungeon. Maybe it can never be activated again.

5.Guilds

5.1. Guilds are accessible by Players and Awakened.

5.2. Awakened can join Player Guilds , for now it is uncertain if it is possible the other way around.

5.3. You need to have finished 5 Instances to create your own guild, it is possible to take one over with less.

5.4. Special Guild Items , only usuable by the guildmembers are avaible. It is uncertain how those are chosen or upgraded.Usually those items are cheaper.

5.5. A Guild can choose to skip a dungeon, but pays for it by losing a guild rank. The guild rank has to be at least equal to the selected dungeon to be skipped. If the dungeon has a higher rank it can not be skipped.
5.6. The Guild can choose its members for a dungeon, but a member can not be excluded more than two dungeons, before forced to enter.

5.7.For completing the dungeon , the guildleader can receive bonus points.

5.8. People of the same Guild can acces a guildchat.

5.9. Guilds can be left and joined without delay or punishment and even for a advantage in a dungeon.

6. Zero City

6.1. It is created by Mr. San and his guild in ancient times by using a item or "bug".

6.2. Mr. San is carrying part of it with himself.

6.3. Zero City can be considered as a hidden instance or program.Similar to the main system running the "game world".

6.4. Awakened residing in Zero City are excluded from the system quests and can "hide" there.

6.5. Zero City is independetly running quests like the main system. Those quests are accessible and maybe forced on the Residing Guild in Zero City.

6.6. The game world can be altered by Zero City. The new Mine is proof of that.

6.7. Zero City runs by itself (maybe AI?).Its goal is to strengthen its residents. It does so by giving out resources and quests.

6.8. There are currently 33 registered Guilds , only seven are still active.

6.9. A Guild added to Zero City can never be erased from the register, it will forever be included to the City strength calculations.

6.10. A mini version of Zero City has been found by Chen, so there might still exist other places like Zero City.

6.11. Zero City is hunted by the developer team. But they can not find them without a code example, that is why they search for Mr. San and his portable version of Zero City.

6.12.Zero City opens its gates for ordinary Awakened to trade items and information.

6.13. New guilds get rarely invited to Zero City because each new guild influences the rankings of the city.

6.14. The current Patriarch Guilds can not control Zero City, most likely the ownership still belongs to Mr. San or a guildmember from his past.

7. Irregularities
7.1. Exists besides the Players and Awakened , but has most points of the Awakened.

7.2. They have acces to the system, but they are not capable of viewing the shop.

7.3. By killing Players or Awakened , Chen receives metal balls ,which allow him to create new Irregularities. Thats why he compares himself to a virus, capable of spreading.

7.4. Chen and Soo Soo are the Source Virus, only their kills create the metal balls.

7.5. Even normal NPCs that never entered a Dungeon can be turned to Irregularities capable of entering Dungeons like Awakened.

7.6. The persons needs to drop blood on the metal ball to activate it, it should act like a acces key to the system.

7.7. Irregularities take over the former acces.

7.8. Irregularities are capable of using more than B class powers in the normal game world.

7.9. Irregularities die only once and will not be reset as a NPC.

7.10. With the help of the GM , Irregularities are capable of entering the Punishment Dungeon without being included in the punishment. Uncertain if this was only because of the new base , or if the GM had another way.

7.11. If a former awakened NPC, turns into a Irregularity , he regains all of his memories and can acces his former abilities. This is for now only known to our two new Irregularities and not Chen.

7.12.Chen and his Guild keep the facts about Irregularities secret, since they can be viewed as danger to normal Awakened.

7.13.Chen was capable of taking out the Sword because he is a source irregularity , others can not lift the sword.

7.14.

8.Random

8.1. Something similar to souls exist(maybe just the memories) as the sword of Chen contains now the Soul of the NPC duchess. Also the newest encountered Sword seems to contain the Soul of its former User.

8.2. Mr. San is capable of facing the system rules , his ability to "bridge" terrified the developer inspector as he should not be capable of doing so.

8.3. Inspector do not need human bodies to enter the game , shown by the monkey.

8.4. The Player City and the Guild of Mr. San worked together.

8.5. Those Players discovered a horrible truth , that they could not tell about because of the system interference.

8.6. Magic users are rare among both Players and Awakened and highly valued.

8.7. Backround informations about Dungeons are highly usable.Chen is often only capable of surviving because of this knowledge.

8.8. Players know of famous Guilds even as Newbies, not knowing about the Wind Slasher Guild puts Chen ( as supposed to be newbie Player) in danger of being discovered.

My own Speculations.

1.1. It sounds very similar to the commonly used VR like in SAO, but maybe to a deeper level. Abilities are capable of altering even mental states inside the game , as shown in the first dungeon and the taunt skill in the London dungeon. So maybe Players are also living in a "virtual" world and the game world is like a subprogram for entertainment. That is for me currently the only way i see our Protagonists leaving their current world, besides possessing another player or robot.

1.7. I think that by using that tree or his seeds, our Protagonists are capable of entering or connecting to the Player world. Mr. San is obviously searching for them , just like Miao Yan. Maybe the seeds are the base item for Zero City, which created a separate program inside of the existing one.

2.2. I believe that death is unlikely for the Players , most likely they have a one time character that will gets deleted upon death. We did not encounter any dead Players again, so maybe they are not allowed to register again.More interesting is the connection the Players of the Player City had, really living in the game world , hidden from the developers. Maybe their world is worse than the game world and they wanted to escape as long as possible?

2.4.The reason to that might just be like our desire to play video games and do lifestyle stuff , farming housing and so on. Or they might not be capable of enjoying such simple activities in their world anymore.

2.7. Maybe this has just something to do with the money she spends for the game( like cashshop gaining benefits) or it has bigger meaning like actual rank or standing in the Player world.Entering the game at any given time and just live ordinary  seems to be like a privilege that ordinary Players are not supposed to have.
She also could be connected to the developer team , daughter of leader or something, explaining her account.

4.9. I am not sure if the legends and myths are created by the developers from the start. They might just let the game run and use observed events as inspiration for Quests. So both sides are used by the developers , they create a irregularity in the game world ( maybe a Wizard or Monster) and the game residents create their own story for them , which can be used again by the developers for a quest.

5.9. I thought this might be exploited by Awakened , who do not want to join Dungeons , they would just need to join a guild , be excluded of the dungeon and then leave and join another to keep avoiding them.

6.11. I guess this will be another point of conflict in the future, the base of Chen runs similar to Zero City , so one of those will fall into the hands of the developer and be a danger for the other.

7.3.This kinda reminded me of Coiling Dragon and the dead Gods Core(Stones? been a while) , so maybe it is similar.Gaining them might unlock the true potential of the soul allowing to acces the system. If our Protagonists manage to escape the game world , then those balls certainly will be main factor.

7.9. This might connect to the former theory , as the connection made , might not be temporary like the ones of awakened or players to NPCs , but permanent.

7.11. Since the new Irregularities did not receive the same metal ball that they formerly possessed , it could mean that those memories are either stored in the NPC or the system.Once Chen finds out about this , he could build a team of former Awakened or maybe revive former Patriarch Guilds of Zero Cities , if they know the NPC locations.Without doubt , one of his teammates will die ( i guess one of the brothers)and he will reawaken him.

8.2. This ability most likely means that he can go to places, the developers do not want Awakened to enter. He might step outside of the " box" the game world presents at the moment.

This really took more time than I expected.
Anyways , i hope this might help to open some discussions about the future of the novel.
It could also help to let reader find interest in the story.
The story elements are certainly a lot more mysterious and unknown then the other stories on wuxia world.
It is a different concept , not the usual cultivate to reach the next realm , where almost everything is the same , just people there start there with a higher cultivation and have in general more strength than the lower realm.
Maybe that is the reason for it not being so popular , it resembles more of a game story that you find on sites like royal roadl.
Just the quality of this novel is so much higher, well thought through, no too OP main protagonist stuff and a steady character progression.
There is huge difference between your average hobby writer for a Literal-RPG story and the more professional, like in this case.
Of course all of this can blow up and the author did not think anything to the end and just wrote freely without a plan. This would be the worst for me, no satisfying answers for the numerous questions.

I just wish the author and the translators stay on it and do not abandon it.

Just wanted to say how amazing this summary is and how it includes a lot of thing without giving too much away. I don't have much to add but I hope people leave comments to further the discussion. I love this novel's set up and I hope it continues to go.
